Where to Drink Coffee in Midtown Manhattan

rize could be great (it's so close to my office!), and their coffee is good, but their milk containers are never filled, the cup top/stirrer area is always filthy, and for some reason they don't put the hot cup holders in the cup top/stirrer area.

etxebarri, in axpe, spain, cooks all of their food over a grill, and even make a delicious grilled butter. was hoping something replicating that would be available in new york, but i guess i'll just have to journey back there for the best steak i've ever had.

some others i like include brucie for inventive pasta dishes and a nice vibe, savoia for great pizza, damascus for awesome pita bread and pies, mazzola for the best olive bread, and catania cafe for great sicilian savory pastries.

you also left out best butcher, maybe anywhere: los paisano's. great selection, knowledgeable and helpful staff, great prices, and top quality meat.

Where to Eat Near Grand Central, NYC

couple additions (and also, i don't know a single person who would consider rock center to be close to GCT, especially for a quick lunch):

the tacos at zengo are actually pretty good, and their off menu friday only burrito is delicious. (40th and 3rd)

pera is good mediterranean, but pricey. (41st and madison).

the she-crab soup and the seared tuna sandwich at the grand central oyster bar take-out window are excellent. (GCT)

the chicken or lamb shwarma at naya express is amazing. (45th and 3rd). five guys next door is also very good.

love the schnitzel at schniztel & things. (46th and 3rd).

mapo tofu happens to have really good chinese food and they have a great lunch special. (39th and lex). and scotty's diner next door is a decent greasy spoon place with an excellent grilled cheese and bacon.

i've been loving northern spy. the chicken and egg sandwich is great, as is there roasted bobo chicken.

however, what you should definitely check out is the $20 sunday dinner you: 3 courses (salad, pasta, dessert). unbelievable value.

Tasting Tour: An Eating Tour of the Barcelona Boqueria

ed, no offense, but didn't you publish (almost) this exact article before?

http://www.seriouseats.com/2007/10/eating-in-barcelona-the-serious-eats-way.html

i know, because my wife and i used it when we were in barcelona in October. i highly highly highly recommend inopia (the pineapple with lime zest and molasses is a MUST EAT as well as their pimientos). we sat at the window outside and it was amazing. be aware though that the wait will be at least an hour no matter what time you get there.

i wasn't that impressed with either paco meralgo or cal pep and i thought the service wasn't good at either (and we both speak spanish so that wasn't the issue).

we also really enjoyed tapac24 right off the passeig de gracias. really good cheap but high end tapas and cava. the black rice with squid was spectacular and the pimientos were probably the best we had.

if i had to make one recommendation though, rent a car and drive about 3 or 4 hours to try and find the restaurant etxebarri in axpe. everything is grilled, from the butter to the clams to homemade chorizo to the best piece of steak i've ever eaten ever (you can see the cows grazing on the mountainside from the window). this is the meal you want to eat.

how can you do a wing round up and not include wogies? aside from dinosaur and blue smoke (which is too expensive to be an every sunday wing), they are the best in the city.

Forward to the Past: New Sliders from White Diamond in New Jersey and Mark in NYC

there used to be a slider place on 3rd between 19th and 20th called the burger joint (all lower case). it closed probably 2+ years ago but they made pretty decent sliders, and they were, i believe, $1.25 each.
