Best Fish Tacos in San Diego
Being a San Diegan born and raised, and now transplanted a hundred miles or so north, I have still yet to find better fish tacos than in my hometown. Thank you so much for coming to your senses and making the trip south. For the party-goers, definitely try Taco-Tuesday's at Fred's in Pacific Beach. It might not be the best taco's, but the extensive tequila menu will definitely make up for that. Cheers!

if it doesn't work for you at least look at the pictures, they're beautiful.
good reasonable restaurants - UES
You have to check out Pig Heaven. It's on 2nd ave and 80th st. It's got the best spare ribs i've ever eaten and believe me, I've tried to find one's that even compare. The rest of their food is amazing too.
i love pasta right now!
Pasta is amazing! It can be done so many ways, but I love the traditional the best and i just found an amazing Bolognese sauce:
Sardi’s Bolognese Sauce
What to do with candied citrus peels
I like candied citrus in cocktails, especially a greyhound (if you had grapefruit). But it's great as a garnish in cocktails like a screwdriver, any gin or vodka w/ soda or tonic, tom collins etc.

What cookbook do you need & can't find the kitchen if missing?
I's have to agree with most people here and say the Joy of Cooking. It's incredible. Never leave home without it. Haha.
I recently read a piece by Loraine Newman about her nineteen thirty-something copy. Very funny. You should read it here:

Best Fish Tacos in San Diego
not sure how Rubio's gets on the best fish taco's list. Maybe on the best fast food fish taco's. The brid in Delmar had awesome fish taco's and you could order them at the bar so you don't have to get dressed up.
i love pasta right now!
I grow basil in my backyard. So I am happy to use fresh basil in every pasta dish. Yesterday I made shell pasta with thin-sliced sun-dried tomatoes, olive oil in the sun-dried tomatoes jar, chopped basil, minced garlic, grilled chicken, feta cheese, seasoning with black pepper, salt, chili pepper, and a little of red-wine vinegar. It was spectacular! Try it out and you will love it.

To JeremyPB; 100 miles north of SD sounds like you are probably in L.A. I too am from San Diego, North County actually, and am now in L.A as well. You may already know about it, but if you are looking for fish tacos up here, try Tacos Baja Ensenada. IMO, better than anything SD had when I lived there. Might be worth a shot. A bit divey, but many swear by their cuisine.
Best Fish Tacos in San Diego
I'm also a native San Diegan and love that you put together this list! I've been to El Zarape but I haven't tried their fish tacos yet. If you go, add some lobster dishes to your group's selection -- they're awesome!
Best Fish Tacos in San Diego
I have to go to San Diego in a few of weeks for a conference and had not been looking forward to it, but you've given me a new lease on my trip, especially since I didn't do well in the fish taco department last time I was there. So many thanks, Erin!
Anyone else keep a food diary?
I have one of those little Moleskine day-at-a-glances and I write down what we have for dinner every night. Nothing fancy, no recipes, but I list the full meal, even if it's takeout or at a restaurant (both of which are rarer than not).

Where can I get a couple of Sous Girls, I wonder?
Serious Sandwiches: Navajo Lamb Sandwich
Hmm.. we could source the frybread from Blue Smoke.. but where to get the lamb... Thoughts?

BaHa - the best (nationwide) comparison I can make to frybread(since I haven't had the new england type) is (oh my goodness can't believe I'm mentioning this here) it is similar to the bread/tacoshell thingy served at Taco Bell- called a "chalupa". ( I know- gross!!!...but as far as I know Taco bell is nationwide and in "horrid non-authentic chain way" it compares somewhat) I wouldn't compare it to a elephant ear for the most part- that would be too sweet. AZ. Fry bread is able to lend itself to sweet or savory toppings. Save yourself from this google frybread= then make it at home you will see.
Serious Sandwiches: Navajo Lamb Sandwich
Ah fried dough semantics... my favorite topic of conversation! :-)
Serious Sandwiches: Navajo Lamb Sandwich
I'm so confused. To this NYer, elephant ears are a very flaky, very sweet puff pasty rolled in on itself in many layers. Kinda looks like a pageboy without a head in the middle. No toppings, always sweet.
Frybread, to me, looks more like New England fried dough, which can be served with either sweet or savory toppings. Can anyone clarify for me?
Serious Sandwiches: Navajo Lamb Sandwich
Mmm, these are the things I'll miss when leaving Phoenix.
Serious Sandwiches: Navajo Lamb Sandwich
I WANT. BADLY.
I feel pretty dumb for not having eaten something like this when I was in Arizona. I have had something similar to that over here on the east coast (NJ) at...um, the Cheesecake Factory. Yeah, they had a navajo sandwich. I still remember thinking how freakin' awesome it was, which makes me wonder how much I'd love one from Arizona...
Serious Sandwiches: Navajo Lamb Sandwich
Bisbee--you're right, it is easy to make! A friend taught me how, and we offer them at his big dinner parties. We basically just from balls of dough from the master dough, then flatten them out and fry them in a wok of oil when we're ready to serve them. The only real challenge is flattening them out without punching them full of holes! ;D
Serious Sandwiches: Navajo Lamb Sandwich
Anyone have a recipe for frybread?
Serious Sandwiches: Navajo Lamb Sandwich
you can also find them on the way from Colorado down to Phoenix- roadside stands in Navajo Country-Shiprock AZ and the like.... I'm headed that way on my roadrip to Phoenix- I 'll let you know what I find. mmm can't wait!
Serious Sandwiches: Navajo Lamb Sandwich
I want one of these lambwiches right now. Maybe they would fed ex a couple to New York.
Serious Sandwiches: Navajo Lamb Sandwich
There's a ramada just outside San Xavier del Bac Misssion just outside Tucson with several vendors of fry bread and your choice of options, as you said, and it seems to be open daily.
Serious Sandwiches: Navajo Lamb Sandwich
Jeremypb- I have also had the frybread outside the SanXavier Mission in Tucson-YUM! thanks! I was trying to remember the name of it.
by the way guys... frybread it SUPER easy to make at home- and delicious! Sometimes we top ours with Chili (the thick red soup kind with beans & meat), or Green chile ( the southwest pork kind),(ya gotta be specific in theSouthwest) and I've even topped it with preserves and butter..yum! Think I'll make some tonight...
Serious Sandwiches: Navajo Lamb Sandwich
oh man .. the crispy outside, fluffy inside of elephant ears without all the sugar and the added bonus of grilled lamb? that sounds too good to be true!
i love pasta right now!
Tasty Morsel, your recipe sounds great! I am all for green chile and savory spices.
i love pasta right now!
Ok, so this may sound disgusting to some of you, but it wasn't too bad. I baked off some chicken breasts with cumin, cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika & chili powder. I roasted a bulb of garlic until soft and caramelized and pureed it with some canned green chilies. I took about 3 tablespoons of ranch dressing and mixed it with the garlic/chili puree and tossed that with the cubed chicken and whole wheat rotini pasta, topped that with shredded cheese and baked it until the cheese melted. Pretty tasty, and cheap.
i love pasta right now!
I love pasta during the winter. It is so filling and delicious. I am eating last night's dinner - rigatoni, spicy italian sausage, purple onions, garlic, homemade marinara with a touch of heavy cream and fresh parsley.
