Hambone's nip and tuck looks good. Hope he is free of the cone of shame. And yeah.... no matter what the ground hog says, my dogs coats say that winter is over. Kenji, if you haven't used a furminator, yet, go searching for one at your pet store. Yes, they are stupidly expensive. Get it anyway. It will make your life much easier!

Hambone looks like he was having a great time. Really good job on training him, Kenji!

Poor Hambone. Not even a tiny taste? My dogs love it when I make pie dough. They know that they will get a scrap or two out of it! They are not picky- raw or baked, it is all good as far as they are concerned.

What? Could no one just snap a photo of hambone with their phone and send it in? ;-)

Can't wait to see your write up on Columbus tacos. Have friends that live in columbus that rave about them!

Poor Hambone in the cone of shame! Why is he having to wear it?

Video: Hambone's Cereal Taste Test

Might want to be careful about those raisins, though at his size. I had thought that the raisin thing was a bit overblown, but I had to take my dog to a vet internist for an issue and asked her opinion. She said that it was something to take seriously, could be even more of an issue than chocolate. She said the smaller the dog, the more problems it could be.

Making Something that "Isn't" what "It Is"

My main beef is when reading a menu, a technical term is used-its name means something specific and then it is not that item. For example, don't say custard if you are really making pudding. Both are good, but they are not the same thing and if I order something with custard in it, that is what I want.

The Food Lab, Drinks Edition: Is Mexican Coke Better?

Almost 20 years ago, I realized something had changed about a lot of drinks-I didn't like the mouthfeel of hfcs. Just sort of gacky feeling. I don't necessarily think it effects flavor, but texture seems to take a hit for me. Great study though. This sort of thing is constantly proven to be true. Put 2 buck chuck in a Petrus bottle and people will go apeshit for it. Our brains are powerful and very open to suggestion!

Hey Serious Gardeners!

If you are in zone 8, I would grow figs. They are easy, give you fruit the first year, and it is so nice to have them in your own yard where you can pick them ripe.

Getting to Know Memphis Eats

Alcenia's for soul food. Good stuff. Don't know if she still does it, but when we were there a few years ago, she greeted each customer with a kiss atop of your head. It is downtown.

And Gus's. Sorry. Just had to put it down anyway. It is that amazing.

Not sure about specific blogs, but when I found a lot of chatty folks on chowhound that gave me recommendations when I first went to Memphis a few years ago.

Ehh. It isn't a real party if the puppy doesn't end up peeing on the floor. Even pups that have been great about potty training end up peeing at parties. Just too exciting, the guests always are feeding them and you are too busy chatting..... uh-oh!

Ahhh the share pei stubborn comes out. Keep working at it, Ed. Try it when he is hungry and see if he can get over your loudness. It was a huge infraction, and it is going to take some work to get Hambone to think forgiveness is a good idea. ;-)

Cocktail 101: Decorative Garnishes

I make a cocktail with gin, fresh oj and campari. Served in an up glass with a nasturtium garnish. The nasturtium is definitely just for looks, but I love it in there. The colors go together perfectly!

Hey Kenji-

Thought I read that he was a rescue doggie-sorry if I added any confusion. Although the whole illness thing right after is definitely a scary thing. I was glad when you started posting the photos here as I had been afraid something happened to little Hambone! That would have definitely been unfair if anything happened to him.

Regardless, I am glad you have such a sweet puppy. And happy he is filling his job description of chief taste tester and mascot!

@Teachertalk-think it was on Facebook-maybe the food labs page?

This Week at Serious Eats World Headquarters

@gamingwithbaby. Look. The entire week is about food and the "This week at Serious Eats Headquarters" at the end of the week is a behind the scenes look at the Serious Eats office. It is focused on personalities, where they are traveling and what is going on. Hambone is obviously a big part of that right now. If Hambone was in every article or even half of them I might think they are going overboard. He is only in the weekend wrap up for the most part. Don't click on this if it bothers you so much. And especially that Hambone is around because of a huge, terrible loss of Dumpling, you might have better manners.

@Mandyeats-you might grieve this way, but not everyone does. It is personal. As it is, they saved a rescue dog. And if anyone could heal a broken heart, Hambone can. I honestly was worried that their would be too much guilt and heartbreak to get another dog. I was glad for them.

You don't know what you've got 'til its gone...

I know what you mean. I traveled for 6 weeks in Thailand and Japan several years ago. By the time a month went by I was dying for Mexican food, pizza, a bagel with cream cheese... you name it. And the food there was fantastic! Just missed home, which was Chicago at the time.

So glad to see Hambone introduced here! After Kenji posted photos on the food labs feed of him, he was in the hospital and I worried a bit if he was ok. Can't have anymore dog sadness at Serious Eats! Love the heck out of Hambone, all of you. I have a sharpei mix and I have found him to be a wonderful dog.

Goodbye, Dumpling

I just broke down in tears when I read this. I am so sorry. He was a lovely friend and he knew he was completely adored. I have had a dog pass away suddenly and it is awful for a while.

Budding gardener with bitter greens.

If you have that much sun, grow basil and tomatoes instead of lettuce-I don't know where you live, but it is difficult growing lettuce once it it hotter. With the greens you do have, give them a quick wilt instead of raw.
