Southern Belly: Gilhooley's, in San Leon, Texas
Wow - couldn't agree more on the oysters gilhooley. Love 'em by the dozen.

I have a similar recipe - only difference is, I add a dose of maple syrup at the end when adding the nuts and raisins back to the pan. It brings the flavors together amazingly well.
Opie's in Spicewood, TX for the pork chop, Kreuz's for the prime rib, Louis Mueller for the brisket, and Salt Lick for the experience.
Bone in ribeye, right between medium rare and rare.
I'm hoping for a mandolin in my stocking this year.
i just want to let everybody know that gilhooleys is still standing.... i was shocked when i made it home i was for sure my job was gone!!! you have to admit the structure isn't that great! the outside raw bar is serving beer but the kitchen was a little messed up and so was the inside. phil is looking to open the patio and kitchen up here soon... but the inside will be a little bit and nobody will be aloud inside when he does. i don't know what is going to happen with the oysters misho had damage to his place and lost alot of his oysters! Everybody is estimating in decemeber we should be back in business if you want to know anything about how its going call 281 339 3813
We hope and pray that Gilhooley's is still there. We too enjoyed the smoked oysters, parmesan cheese. We both commented after leaving there in June of this year that it was truly the best oyster's we have ever eaten. We had met a couple who live in Clear Lake @ Gaido's and they said go to Gilhooley's, not much to look at, ah, but the oyster's, they were so RIGHT! We live in East Texas and would actually drive 3 hrs just to eat there, I hope and pray that it made it through Ike, if not, I hope they are able to rebuild soon.
Words can't do just justice to Gilholley's, you have to go there to see for yourself. The place don't look like much, but the oysters are the best you'll ever eat, and that includes our friends to the east in Louisiana. I love their policy on "kids," it's an adult place; bar, beer, liquor, and etc. Take your kids to Joe's Crab Shack, they like 'em there.
If you're in the New Orleans area, you MUST try Drago's in Metarie. Very similar recipe, incredibly amazing fantastic. They also have a lobster stuffed with alfredo sauce, bacon, oysters, sliced duck breast, and angel hair pasta. It's what my friends call STFU delicious.
Yeah, Gilhooleys rocks! Plus, check out the Redneck Yacht Club in the same 'hood for some cheap beers... A great way to escape Houston for a day.
We have a winner!
And it's ... PATTYCHO. Someone from Serious Eats will be contacting you shortly for shipping info.
