Dinner Tonight: Scalloped Potatoes

I made a similar scalloped potato recipe a couple of weeks ago. In addition to topping with cheese, I used just a slight dusting of breadcrumbs for a nice crust on top.

This has nothing to do with the muffins, but Andrew Bird is AMAZING!

New York Trans-Fat Ban Kicks in Full Gear Tomorrow

Trans fats are a health issue, but banning them is silly. Banning them isn't like banning smoking, which was done to protect employees and others impacted by second-hand smoke. Your neighbor at the next table gets no harmful runoff from your table if you order a trans fat laden dish. A better comparison would be banning the sale of trans fats to anyone under 18, ala cigarettes, which would prevent minors from being exposed to a health risk while allowing adults to make a harmful choice if they choose.

Can the New Starbucks Logo Just Wear a Turtleneck?

What's really lame is that's a censored version of the original logo, since the breasts are conveniently covered with hair that was added in. You can buy merchandise with the "real" original Starbuck's logo at the original store at the market in Seattle

Every Corsage Matches a Skittles Dress!

I think the Bow Wow Wow's I Want Candy is a more fitting match for that dress.

Although I use a bit more cheese, this is very similar to my recipe. For some reason though, I only make for special occasions or company. I think it was something that my mom did when I was growing up. I may have to re-think this though since we love them.

Simplicity is the key. Peeled and sliced russet potatoes. Half and half. Layer potatoes in appropriate pan. Season first layer with salt and pepper and dot with butter. Second layer, same, third, same (if you get that far). Slowly drizzle in enough light cream (half and half) to nearly cover. Bake at 425 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour until brown on top and bubbly. I use a nonstick tart pan and place it on a cookie sheet for spills. This is my favorite potato dish, sorry Rosti, you're second.

Thanks for the great recipe. We fixed this last night for dinner and it turned out great. I think of scalloped potatoes in a big casserole dish, which takes more than an hour to bake. This method of 10 minutes on the stove top, then into a hot oven, resulted in perfectly cooked potatoes.

I wish better coffee was available within walking distance from my workplace ... I thought the original logo looked ugly, but I can't say that a mythical creature's anatomy is anything to get upset about. I don't think breasts traumatize children. I just don't.

I don't care about the boobs, like 50% of us have them. I just think it's ugly and brown and it doesn't make me want to drink coffee. BUT I do give them props for going back to the "original", the green logo is so disney. They should have made the originals boobs bigger, I bet people would have quit complaining:)

I said this over at Nancy Luna's place...

Forget about the boobs -- look at those legs.

Could they BE spread open any wider?

Ha! :)
