Hamburger America: Miller's Bar in Dearborn, Michigan
Private men's club, indeed. I remember how horrified my father (a Ford engineer in Dearborn at the time) was when I was introduced to Miller's by my engineer buddies while attending the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Wow Starsinger are you hating Dearborn enough? I hate it too. For reasons I really shouldn't go into as they might cause a fight. :)

I f*cking hate Dearborn (where I was born, grew up and fled at the first opportunity) but I do LOVE me some Miller's burgers. Whenever I have the misfortune of being back in "Dogbone," I stop at Miller's at least once and gorge on the demi-god of hamburgers. I have lived in what some (mostly natives) have called the hamburger capital of the world -- Southern California -- for going on twenty years, but none of the burgers out here can compare with a Miller's burger. It is the holy grail of hamburgers, and I have spent my life trying to find a better burger, to no avail. I'll keep searching, of course, but I'm getting more and more certain with each passing year that I'll not find a burger that pleases me like the ones I inhale in that humble little bar in that dying little town.

I love Miller's. No man or woman loves Miller's more than I. I have a hard time not ordering two, on a visit. However, it's not raining yet, but there's a cloud over this parade. On last visit, with Wife-enstein, we were waiting, up against the wall, for a table, which puts you in view of the kitchen, and, to my hamburgerial horror, I saw cookie pressing the juice out of the burgers cooking on the griddle with a spatula! I could not believe it. I wanted to shout, "No! Stop!". Now, were my last couple of burgers dry, or, did I superimpose what I just saw onto my memory? I said to the waitress, "I just saw the cook pressing the juice out of the burgers." She said, "It makes them cook faster." I said, "Don't do it to mine." How do we get them to stop this new (I believe it to be new) behavior? Does George call them up and tell them? Anybody else notice this?

Mmmmmm. I LOVE Millers! My dad would bring these home on occasion after visiting my grandparents who lived out that way. I haven't had one in years.
Also delicious: BRAYS!

"there are no seasonings"
Yup that's Michigan for you, no seasonings on anything.

Millers is incredible - but I also have to give a nod to the Redcoat Tavern on Woodward Ave near Royal Oak - my wife from NC begs to go there when we come back to town!
