exciting! i was by the old paloma space about a week ago and was wondering if anything would ever go in there. good luck!
Mandatory Brunch Tip: Way or No Way?
no way - if i get poor service, i should be able to tip lower. i don't think i've ever had service so bad i've not tipped altogether, but i think it can be justified (though very, very rarely).
Turkey Hill's Special World Series Ice Cream
in this instance, i say the phillies take the world series of turkey hill ltd. ed. flavors. bavarian cream w/ caramel corn sounds amazing!

Mixed Review: Sprinkles Pumpkin Cupcake Mix
a reliable go-to mix is nice to have.
for a "real" pumpkin cupcake recipe, i recently made these and thought they weren't very complicated and very tasty http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/11/pumpkin-cupcakes/
Should Bagel Shops Charge For Toasting?
charging extra to toast a bagel makes about as much sense as charging someone to check a single piece of luggage when they're flying hundreds of miles and intend to be away for several days.
Lady M Cake Boutique Cheesecake: The Last Cut Is The Deepest
there is something nice about her trying to make all 3 slices equal, so that there would be no fighting back at the office! however it may have been more polite (or just less weird) to ask if you minded if one of the slices had a little extra and offered to cut it down.
Cook the Book: Pumpkin Baking
pumpkin makes a lot of things amazing, but a solid pumpkin pie gets me through the dreaded busy frantic holidays! i love fall for pumpkins!
Can Pumpkin Beer Be Serious Beer?
i agree completely on the southern tier pumpkin - too EXTREME! of a beer for my taste - and i thought their creme brulee beer was sweet! they do however, make an amazing chocolate beer that tastes just like chocolate.
fisherman's pumpkin stout is one of my favorites - not too pumpkin-y. i think it's the only pumpkin stout out there (?).
ithaca brewing also makes a nice pumpkin beer but i'm not sure if it's sold in bottles.
Is Totonno's Open Yet? No. No, It Is Not
oooh, false alarm! i didn't read the fine print where my friend was at one of the other totonno's locations. whoopsie!
How Do You Use Foods Past Their Prime?
moldy foods get tossed, bananas become banana bread, other fruits/veggies get composted.
Should A Service Charge Be Included at Restaurants So That Servers Can Have Benefits?
i'm with southpaw. when i dine out, i pay for the food, i tip on the service, and deal with the requisite sales tax. that's enough for me. if restaurant owners need to find a way to cover costs, just take it out of profits, or if that's not good enough, raise the prices up a notch and hope it doesn't affect business.
Time for a Drink: Suffering Bastard
drinking one now. delicious!
Deal of the Day: $25 Restaurant Gift Certificates for $1
i purchased a couple for cono & sons in williamsburg. it's one of our local joints. old school italian.
Inexpensive but good sushi on the LES?
maybe check out cube 63 - it's BYOB so that should help defray cost.
Deal of the Day: $25 Restaurant Gift Certificates for $1
i read today that the code 'ninety' is valid through 9/13, fyi.
In Season: Eggplant
we've been making a lot of eggplant rollatini this summer

My Pizza Oven: Mark Wilkie, Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn
i've been following mark's progress on flickr for some months now... nice to see the final product and learn more about the process. my NYC-backyard envy just went up a few points.
Cook the Book: 'Bite-Size Desserts'
gummy cola or root beer bottles
The Fresh Label Tracks Food Expiration Dates
lorenzo i'm that person with the milk...
genius idea to reduce price alongside freshness!
Cook the Book: '100 Best Vegetarian Recipes'
a simple caprese salad
Dinner Tonight: Peach Caprese Salad
heh! i made this a couple nights ago for dinner, but with prosciutto, and substituted mint for the basil. okay, not quite the same thing but pretty close!
Prime Meats Burger: One Step Away from Greatness
i ordered the burger for lunch a week ago. my only complaint was it was too large and unwiedly to eat so i cut it in half. bad move, it was incredibly unstable after that! otherwise i gobbled it up, despite my sloppiness.
wasn't a fan of the spaetzle. i'll admit i'm a bit of a purist, and thought it would have been better with less cheese. it wasn't even a mac-and-cheese consistency, more like a spaetzle soup. we didn't finish it (2 of us were sharing and it's not a large portion).
Vintage Meat Photo Pool
reminds me of this http://www.plan59.com/av/av035.htm ew!
When Is Totonno's Opening? New Projected Date Is Late August
the update i've been waiting for! good luck to them on reopening. as an architect, my experience is that it almost always takes longer than expected to open a place or to renovate - there are often hidden surprises and delays.

Weekend Giveaway: Nudo Olive Tree Adoption
the olive stuck deep into my bloody mary during a lazy sunday brunch.
Weekend Giveaway: Nudo Olive Tree Adoption
There is no olive I do not love; but I love those dried, shriveled ones from Morocco the best.

Weekend Giveaway: Nudo Olive Tree Adoption
This is a brilliant idea! It's going on my Christmas list (if necessary!)
Olives are like wines to me. I sample many wonderful varieties, make a mental note of which I prefer and why, and then promptly forget. Oh, darn, I have to repeat the process!
I do know that, as with cheese and ham, I tend to prefer Spanish.
Weekend Giveaway: Nudo Olive Tree Adoption
When I married, I discovered my Armenian father-in-law always eats oil-cured olives with eggs and bread in the morning. I'd never had them before, and found the strong taste almost overwhelming. I'm now *addicted* to them. They are wonderful little bites with very strong, deep olive flavor. Yum!
Weekend Giveaway: Nudo Olive Tree Adoption
Any olive variety is a good one, but Kalamata is a great one!
Weekend Giveaway: Nudo Olive Tree Adoption
Manzanillas are good but I love Picuals.
Weekend Giveaway: Nudo Olive Tree Adoption
Gotta go with the Kalamatas!
Weekend Giveaway: Nudo Olive Tree Adoption
