10 1bs of potatoes

Thanks to everyone who commented.. I am using russet potatoes. I was told not to cut into small pieces when boiling because they would come out gooey. Has anyone heard of this? I was going to use a hand mixer instead of a potato masher because I don't want any lumps. I have to transport them about 12 miles. would it be a good idea to put in a crockpot and when I arrive to add more cream?
