Raising the Bar: "The Sandwich of the Decade" at El Quinto Pino
that sandwich is alright, but sandwich of the decade is a little much. they just don't have enough menu options there to keep me coming back.
Izakaya Report: Rockmeisha in the West Village
Rameniac also claims they have the 4th best ramen in NYC. I have to check this place out.

Not All Breakfast Sandwiches are Created Equal
Bleh, the Starbucks sandwiches are gross. I had high hopes for them, as there's a Starbucks in my building (and 2 on my way to work), but I've tried every single breakfast sandwich they offer with meat, and I don't like any of them. I don't remember which one, but one of them actually leaked oil through the paper bag they gave it to me in. Blech.
I'd rather have an Egg McMuffin than any of the starbucks sandwiches any day.
Peter Meehan's Top 5 Serious Espresso Joints
It's probably too late, but espresso afficionados may be surprised by the unusual presentation of "iced espresso" that you can get at the Buon Italia Cafe in Chelsea Market. They do it every summer, and it is a surprisingly tasty espresso shot (prepared hot as normal) poured into a cup made of ice. The result has an interesting taste and texture that I highly recommend to anyonee with a taste for coffee.

If the steak is simply grilled, Cabernet Sauvignon (Californian, Australian or Chilean) would be the wine to pair it with.

A pinotage like Kanonkop! My Dad brought one back from a recent trip to South Africa and it was soooo good with fresh-off-the-bbq steaks and corn this summer!

@momo - Yeah, it's a recession, but it doesn't mean you can't treat yourself to a uni sandwich once in a while at a tapas place. Sometimes you don't want to eat at home. If you don't like it, you don't have to go. It's as simple as that.

Like most people who read this site, I am well aware of the market value of sea urchin. For $15, I can make five of those sandwiches at home. Go to my local patisserie and Sunrise Market. Bam. Simple as making a PB&J. Now, If I wanted a hot roast beef sandwich au jus with homemade mozzarella and freshly fried eggplant, I need to go to a specialty shop. I cannot make that at home. Well, I can, but it'll take a full day of work, or two. Even then, it'll still be half the cost of the yuppie bourgeois tapas that is lauded in this post. Just sayin'...we all in a recession now. Someone hand over that fried oyster po'boy!

@momo - $15 is a lot of money, but fresh uni is expensive. One piece of uni sashimi is $4 at a cheap place. Also, there was more than a "schmear" of sea urchin. There were gobs of it inside.

$15 for diminutive ficelle with butter, oil, and a schmear of sea urchin. I'll pass.

@sloppy - I should probably ignore your comment, but I have to admit, I thought it looked obscene when I got it. Glad to know it's not just me.
