Top 10 Celebrity Chef Earners: Who Isn't on the List?

HOW is PAULA DEEN making so much money killing America one bacon-covered donut at a time?!

i always see chocolate long johns and i remember eating them growing up! they should be available at Tim Horton's throughout Canada...

Does anyone know what exactly is in a 'Dutchie' donut? they are delicious..and mysterious.

Sex and The City...

The movie was everything I hoped it would be =)

In terms of food..how can we forget the GIANT "I Love You" Chocolate Chip Cookie that Miranda destroyed in seconds?!?!

I didn't realize that she had such a sweet tooth from the series, but it seems obvious after this discussion..

If you want to eat in tune with the movie, I would say chocolate pudding, guacamole and sushi!

Cook the Book: Nigella Express

I keep a stash of ramekins in the fridge that hold misc small items: lemon wedges, minced garlic, sliced mushrooms, chopped ginger and green onions.

No need to defrost and makes it a snap to cook small dishes (my favorite is garlic shrimp) late at night when the hunger hits!

Also makes it easy to garnish items so it makes the quick dishes you prepared look much fancier.

Eating Out In Vancouver, BC

I've been around the Vancouver restaurant scene and while the food never ceases to amaze me (sablefish at Blue Water Cafe!! Rainbow Trout at NU!!) it is difficult to find something that is exciting and different for an adventure-seeking individual like yourself.

I would recommend

1. Nan-Chuu in Richmond for its delicious beef tartare, topped with a raw quail's egg.

2. Sai-Z, a new restaurant but an upcoming star, on West Broadway for the most exquisite sea foie gras I've ever tasted. It also the first place that made sea urchin sashimi edible for me.They have a reasonable (30ish dollars) seasonal prix fixe suitable for college students on a low budget, and a higher-end omakase menu for that occasional splurge.

Let me know where you end up going!

Growing up in Minnesota, we didn't actually have a ton of local doughnut shops at the time, so we had to get them from grocery bakeries.

My local grocery store had both long john's AND eclairs - the key difference being the filling. Long Johns had none and sometimes had sprinkles or coconut topping - where as eclairs were filled evil.

wanted to add my comments about the Long John.

where i've been, a twisted Long John is the same as bow tie from Dunkin Donuts fame.

Spot on, Bill. It's all about the cult of personality and to her credit, RR does not call herself a chef.

Salaries and "profits" from restaurant are two different things......

Television is about television, not cooking. The top earners on this list have leveraged the initial toehold of a cooking show into great wealth. People tune in to watch someone cook on TV because they're attracted to that personality, not particularly because they want a cooking lesson.

Ray was smart enough to understand that early on and began to build her brand apart from Food Network. Her fans would tune in to watch her scrub a sink.

I think a better title would have been food celebrities as opposed to "Celebrity Chefs..."

I read through the first page of responses on the article and it blows me away how many RR lemmings there are. I am so reminded of a woman who worked for me from Biloxi. She set her TIVO to record Oprah and Dr. Phil every day we were out of town and continually quoted the two. On another forum I used to spend a lot of time on, there was a woman who continually quoted "The View".

Thank gawd I quit drinking kool-aid when I stopped going to band camp.

In Rachel's defense, keeping in mind that I really do not like her, she herself has said on many occassions that she IS NOT a chef and does not consider herself to be one.

Do you have to be on TV to be a celeb chef? I wonder how much money Thomas Keller makes.

moral of the story.. dont believe everything you read. I work for a celebrity chef and his restaurants alone make him more than $1.5 mill a year. not to mention his book sales, endorsements, television shows and guest apparences.. and guys give RR a break!!!

Shes doing her thing, and doing it well. Go Rachel! /the sky's the limit and the ovens the transport to get you there : o

"When did Rachel Ray or Paula Deene become chefs? Cooks? Maybe. But not chefs."

Rachel Ray is not a chef, she's never even cooked in a restaurant, and what she does cook is disgusting (Hotdog Salad for example).

Paula Deene on the other hand, may not be a classically trained chef, but she started out owning and operating her own restaurant and her recipes, though not good for you, are some of the most delicious out there. Paula is a chef, much more so than Rachel.

Granted the only two on this list that I really respect as chefs are Ramsey and Bourdain, but that's because they are real chefs, they know what they want and don't put up with any crap in their kitchen.

@FFC ~ now, now, let's get our - oops YOUR - mind out of the gutter. Actually, Oprah and Retchel both get on my nerves, but everything she touches seems to turn to gold, so I'd grit my teeth , hold out my index finger and receive the precious gold. The way things are going, even a little nickel might help!

p.s. the laugh helped even more - thanks!

Um, No? *cringing here* It was crazy and remember, we were drinking cosmos at the movie. I was hung over for 2 days! Remember what Samantha said when she was talking about eating everything insight except, you know, well I sort of, well, you know! But hey, it really wasn't me, it was the cosmos. My face was numb! How bad is that?? :-O

@iz - Did you take pix of the ahem... replica??? Please tell me someone took pix! If you host them on photobucket or anything, you can put a link here (just not the photo). You can also e-mail me a pic if you like at chiffonade@hotmail.com. I'd love to see it! I made one for a friend over 20 years ago and that thing was such a hit!

@chiff - Holy Guacamole! We decided when the movie comes out on DVD, we are going to have another party and watch the movie again. Way too much fun. Did the Cosmo thing too. You should have seen the pate a choux! I have one word.......Dante.

Well now! It took a thread like this one to actually get me to participate! It has been quite entertaining to be a voyeur of this site. BIG fan of the series. The movie will not disappoint. As a "cougar" I am looking at sushi so differently these days. *Purring heard here*.

(My interaction with all things food are well.........so Samantha)

From Talk

Well we did it too. Went to the 2 o'clock matinee last Friday when it opened. A couple of my women clients and I met for drinks at my place in Tampa. First we had Cosmos, of course. They were so good! All made with fresh lime juice and decorated with orange slices. They were pretty and yummy! We just had cheese and crackers and pepperoni, yes i weanied out. And chocolate cake, which i did make! The move was great. Remember when the end of soprano's left you just kinda pissed off. Well this didn't. LOL.

Let's see:

Anything being grilled or bbq'd
Cookies in the oven
Lasagna, baked ziti in the oven
Coffee brewing-but only in the am
cutting fresh herbs
Sauteed/Roasted Garlic
Teriyaki anything (esp. shrimp)

Ok, now I am just hungry. And people say I'm a picky eater...ugh

Yikes, real vanilla smells so very good...I'd forever be in a daze.

Vanilla candles, sprays, and lotions make me ill -- now that would work for me as an appetite suppressant. :P

From Talk

bacon, for sure
melting butter, preferably with onions or garlic sauteing
a good tomato sauce bubbling away
cinnamon rolls
