Daily Slice: Big Pie in the Sky Pizzeria, Kennesaw, GA

I love this site but only I can can judge what is the pizza best for me. As for the comment: "Your double-zero obsession and San Marzano snootiness frightens and confuses me. But I do know this: pizza isn't always about show-offy toppings or an oven built with bricks from the Old Country. Sometimes it's enough to have a hearty, satisfying slice with faint charring around the edges, a thinner-than-thin crust that's pleasingly floppy at the point and crackingly crisp around the handle, with loads of gooey cheese" I COULDN'T AGREE MORE...THERE ARE AS MANY BEST PIZZAS IN THE WORLD AS THERE ARE PEOPLE EATING PIZZA...IN OTHER WORDS MY BEST DOESN'T HAVE TO BE YOUR BEST IT ONLY HAS TO BE MY BEST!

Chuck's in Des Moines IA. While not strictly a Pizza Parlor, it is full scale Italian/American restaurant, it has been around since 1956 and while it has been updated it's old time charm remains. To the essence; some the best thin crust pizza around. Their home made Italian sausage is just right and is the only thing I ever get on my pie. Their onion rings are as good as they get. They are not the huge ring with tons of breading type. They are thin and lightly breaded and that makes for a very delicate but very flavorful onion ring. Unfortunately they will be closed as we will be in Des Moines on Saturday January 1st and they will be closed for the New year's holiday.

Very Very disppointing, while there were a few great clips, Di Fara's, Escape from NY Pizza etc., this movie is about pizza fights and pizza tossing competitions. Not really worth the 1 hour plus time to watch and glean out the pizza nuggets.

Which City Has the Best Pizza?

Crazy Ideaa, there is no best. Who has or what is the best pizza is probably the most subjective subject ever. I for one haven't met many pizza's I don't like, most chains being the exceptions. I can find great pizza in Omaha NE, Frank's and La Casa to name a couple. I have had great pizza in Rome, Sienna, Pisa, Venice and Florence. I have had great pizza in Portland Oregon, NYC, Boston, Chicago, Erie PA, Des Moines and Marshalltown Ia. Please let's spend our time extolling the vitures of our favorite pizzas and quit wasting our time arguing about who has the best.

The Hot Truck at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York

Reading the article and watching the video reminded me of my hometown and it's famous sandwich. I grew up in Des Moines Iowa and it seemed like every bar that had food or resturaunt in town had their own verison of a "Guinea Grinder" . Yeah I know it's supposed to be a deragatory term but swear to God there are still many many places that still have the sandwich and still call it the "Guinea Grinder" (most either owned by or origianlly started by local Italians by the way.) Many use the famous Graziano's Bros hot sausage. Basically it is the very same sandwich as featured here except the only way you could get it was with a hot sausage base. You could add extras of course, like mushrooms, peppers, onions etc. The basic sanwich however was a split chewy "krispy Krust" hoagie or open faced "Krispy Krust" bread filled with the hot sausage, covered with pizza sauce and then mozzarella chesee and baked open faced in the pizza oven. To this day I buy Graziano's sauage and bring it back to Omaha and make my own version of the "Guinea Grinder". Go Hot Truck! I love the concept.
