My meal-worthy soup memories are mainly not home-based. When my mother would try something with barley, it generally turned into a comical disaster due to the unanticipated expansion of the barley. I'm waiting for Pho to become as prevalent in suburban CT as it seemed to be on my last visit to Seattle...

The "Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia CD-ROM and Kraft Singles cheese" bundle, sold at Costco and other big-box stores in the late 1990s.

We got the legendary Technivorm for Xmas; amazing what it'll do for nearly any coffee. The stream of coffees coming into the house are typically Green Mountain mail-order, a pick from Trader Joe's, or something from Stew Leonard's (they roast on site). But the best surprise we had recently is the brick of pre-ground IKEA coffee we picked up recently--really good (maybe it liked the Dutch-made Technivorm).

I dare you to find the glass bottle in a supermarket. A local burger joint was nice enough to give us a couple of "restaurant-only" bottles at a recent visit, which we re-use now. The Heinz bottle is like a big ketchup hug.
