The Serious Eater's Guide to Open House New York
2 places in the Bronx? You definitely need to get Baron Ambrosia on staff here.
Cook the Book: 'Japanese Hot Pots'
My meal-worthy soup memories are mainly not home-based. When my mother would try something with barley, it generally turned into a comical disaster due to the unanticipated expansion of the barley. I'm waiting for Pho to become as prevalent in suburban CT as it seemed to be on my last visit to Seattle...

Ditto what pauliegee said above for myself...
Who Likes Grape Soda?
I've said it before on this blog, and I'll say it again: Purple Passion (1970s version): BEST SODA CAN EVER. It tasted good, too.
Weird Edible-Inedible Promo Combinations

@carriebwc Double, double! The Baron should be on the SE staff!
Tips for Choosing Supermarket Coffee
We got the legendary Technivorm for Xmas; amazing what it'll do for nearly any coffee. The stream of coffees coming into the house are typically Green Mountain mail-order, a pick from Trader Joe's, or something from Stew Leonard's (they roast on site). But the best surprise we had recently is the brick of pre-ground IKEA coffee we picked up recently--really good (maybe it liked the Dutch-made Technivorm).

Funniest video of '09.
Regarding the Heinz Ketchup Bottle
I dare you to find the glass bottle in a supermarket. A local burger joint was nice enough to give us a couple of "restaurant-only" bottles at a recent visit, which we re-use now. The Heinz bottle is like a big ketchup hug.
Coffee Top Caddy: Yea or Nay?
At DD, they generally add that stuff (milk, sugar) for you because they know you're on the go and have no time to open those little plastic milk sarcophaguses. But it's still a cool idea.

2009 Bloggie Award Nominees Announced
http://2008.weblogawards.org/polls/best-food-blog/ ...Cake Wrecks, >31000 votes vs.
As for bloggies.com, I just lament the lack of SE... I think their methodology is much better (requiring e-mail authentication of your vote). And yeah, there's too many awards... I guess 'tis the season, though.
2009 Bloggie Award Nominees Announced
What is wrong with these blog award people? At least this one makes you register/authenticate your vote... less ballot box stuffing.

Brooklyn Chocolate Stout is great and must have a following in NYC; a friend who lives in Queens couldn't find it and I had to get it for him... in Danbury, CT!
Store-Bought Stuffing Mix Showdown
to turn a store bought stuffing into gourmet (best with pepperidge farms)
saute some sausage pieces till brown
add onion till soft or light brown
then add celery and thyme
add butter if necessary
add to store-bought mix as directed on the package.
use home-made turkey stock for best results.
if you prefer bacon to sausage that's fine.
you can also add walnuts and/or raisins.
happy thanksgiving.
