Serious Eats Goes on a Juice Cleanse

I'm allergic to raw carrots too! Hurrah! Someone else with the horrendous Birch Pollen allergy!

How to Make Your Own Cocktail Bitters: Krangostura

I just finished the process here but have run into a problem. When I added the dilution liquid to the macerated alcohol I got a shockingly large amount of louching of the oils. Any idea how to reverse this? Or otherwise how to remove it? The louched oil seems to pass through coffee filters like the rest of the liquid.

Drink the Book: 'Jelly Shot Test Kitchen'

I made a monkey gland Jello Shot once. Gin, Orange Juice, Grenadine, Pernod....Gelled just fine but I couldn't get it out of the molds in one piece!

I would give it to ABC Kitchen.....but I suspect it will go to Barbara Lynch and Menton

Sugar Rush: Christine Ferber Jams and Croissants at Borne Confections

Wow. That photo and description are nothing like the sad, uncrusty, lifeless croissant I had there a few months ago. I've been detouring to work via Petrossian since the SE roundup. Maybe I should give them another shot.

Who Sells Your Favorite Croissants in New York?

I'm a big fan of the croissant (and even more-so the palmier) at La Bergamote on 52nd & 10th. Also the croissants at Brasserie Cognac for the sheer butter content (but only in the morning hours when they are fresh)

Sugar Rush: Ice Cream Cakes at Quality Meats

I went a few weeks ago (probably the day after they started) and had both the Pie Fight and the Cherry Monkey Cake. (I have had the Cookie Monster Ice Cream on its own so I wanted to try something new). T

he texture on the Pie Fight was very nice but the pistachio/cherry combo on the Cherry Monkey was the winner for me. I wish the cake layers were a little thicker (or maybe just the bottom layer) but I was still very impressed.

As a side note, Quality meats dressed up scoops are some of the best alterna-sundaes i've had in any restaurant in NYC (and the ice cream is available in hand-packed fresh pints to go as well)

Lunch for One: Prime Rib Hash at Keens

No need for it to be only in the winter.. I crave this all year round. Its particularly good with the horseradish jus they put on the English cut of the prime rib from the same menu.

What's Your Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie? We'll Give It A Try

I agree with Dessert Delivery....(though I had completely forgotten about them). And even though I know it will lose.... Le Pain Quotidien

Chocolate Chip Cookie Championship: The Midtown(ish) Edition

SO... against my better judgement...but following your lead.... I went over to Pret today. There must me some location specific magic happening because the cookie I got tasted no better than the toll house cookie rolls you buy at Gristedes and cook at home....right down to the slightly artificial preservative taste.

I'm still waiting for Jacques Torres to show up (Outer Borough I guess) and Le Pain Quotidien.

New Shake Shack Slated for Nolita

Thats a great corner spot with McNally Robinson Books across the street and the Young Designers Market up the block. But its TINY....I think its a parking lot for 10 cars at the moment. 1 car length deep and 10 car widths long.

Best Cheap Lunch Eats around 59th and 5th

Unfortunately Burger Joint has upped their prices...$7 for a burger $7.50 for a cheeseburger... still its an awesome burger. Burgers at Pop Burger (which is right at 58th and 5th) are $6.75. Fika is also pretty pricey ($8-10 for sandwiches)

I work at 59th and lex and know there isnt much over here. If you are willing to walk for it there is a Chinese Place with a great lunch special at 59th and 3rd. Its called the New Hong Wing or something like that (it changed names-from Asian Dragon- last week)

Also, right down from the Five Guys there are 2 good places..one called called Cer Te which is sort of gourmet sandwiches and another called Tuscany which is Italian take-out but really well priced for the area.

Well...if we are going with "international"... I'd say Ham and Cheese Crepes...particularly on the Ile St. Louis in Paris!
