Cook the Book: 'Good Eats: The Early Years'
A couple of years ago, a group of us banded together to cook all day the day before Thanksgiving preparing food for ourselves and for the homeless and needful in our little town. We distribute the food early on the holiday and go home with much lighter hearts knowing that we've fed those who could not manage a good dinner on their own.
Cook the Book: 'Simple Fresh Southern'
Mushrooms stuffed with chopped nuts and cream and spinach souffle- are two non-traditional, but very tasty, additions to the holiday table. I also like the looks and the tastes of a big fresh fruit display: muscat grapes, murcotts or clementines, gala apples, peaches, pears and a variety of berries. That bit of natural sweetness can really refresh a palate.
Cook the Book: 'New Classic Family Dinners'
Cold weather is chili time! Made with fresh tomatoes, chunks of steak and some diced habanero for a little extra kick. A big bowl of chili, caesar salad, and cheddary potato rolls are a truly memorable and satisfying meal.
Cook the Book: 'The Pioneer Woman Cooks'
Serious Eats has been my go to site for a long time...consistent quality, informed contributors, great topics. What's not to love!

Cheese-Filled Bacon Roll, Too Much of a Good Thing?
Humph! none a y'all ever seen a redneck Oreo before? When we add pulled pork and hot sauce, we call 'em s'mores...'cause that's what we want!
Cook the Book: Martha Stewart's Hors d'Oeuvres Handbook
I hosted a large Opera Guild fundraiser cocktail party for a picky crowd of opera-goers and was told my hor d'oeuvres(all my own recipes) were the best of any fundraiser they'd ever had...the food was all gone, too.
Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Two Peter Luger Steaks
1 1/2" thick ribeye- seared 4 min. each side then 4 min in a 425 degree oven to medium rare...absolute ambrosia for a serious carnivore such as I! Try it...you'll love it!
Cook the Book: 'Second Helpings of Roast Chicken'
Celery seed is my secret ingredient in almost everything...it adds a fresh note and people can never figure out what it is. I never remember to freeze left over fresh ginger and it hangs around the bottom of the bin until it withers to nothing but solid skin.
Cook the Book: 'The Modern Baker'
On a whim, I made Hallmark's 4 ingredient chocolate cake with 60 % belgian chocolate when unexpected guests were coming. Wonder of wonders, the cake tasted heavenly and was a complete success. Everyone wanted the recipe! That was the success...the failure was the catcalls when I disclosed that it was just another of my q&d's (quick and dirty recipes) so I still retain "my-no-recipe- is-worth-doing-unless-the-food-is-served-raw-and-untouched" status with my friends and I still spend less than 30 minutes preparing anything.
Cook the Book: Serves One
Rare rib eye steak with microwave Bernaise or red wine sauce, Caesar salad and oven-roasted asparagus. Ready to eat in 20 minutes tops!
Cook the Book: 'Margaritas, Mojitos & More'
fresh pineapple wedges, rock candy swizzle sticks, apple slices, edible gold flecks....it all depends on the drink!

Bob Blumer-
What is your latest Surreal idea for a gala party? Help me plan a fun wedding, pretty please?
Cook the Book: The Oprah Magazine Cookbook
I can't believe no one wants to break bread with Jay Leno... I think we'd do an antipasto, eggplant parmigiani supreme and finish with tiramisu and expresso. I'd cook while he told behind the scenes stories of the Tonight Show.
Cook the Book: 'Roast Chicken and Other Stories'
Invited to the newly-weds for dinner, I went into the kitchen to help the bride get dinner on the table...imagine my surprise when I found that we had to remove the saran packaging and the plastic tray as well as the giblets still in their little paper sack when we took the bird from the oven. I explained that the bird would be tastier if she took it out of the wrappings before putting it into the oven...she said she didn't know that, she'd just followed the prep instructions on the label.
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Secret Ingredients, the New Yorker Book of Food and Drink'
Trillin is a God.! I also regularly read John Mariani, Esquire magazine's food columnist and I vastly enjoy his style.
Valentine's Day Chocolate Giveaway
Dark chocolate truffles dipped in dark chocolate do not seem like overkill to me, so, obviously, I believe in the efficacy of dark chocolate to cure all ills. My daily intake is, of course, purely medicinal; a chocolate a day keeps the lumbago away, also the blues and the grumps.
