Dinner Impossible

There is but one host of Dinner: Impossible and that is Robert Irvine. The show is now dead to me. He does not seem horrible at all. He demands VERY high quality in the food he's providing.

If you have questions about the whole resume BS-fest (Thanks for being geniuses, Food Network execs!) Check out his blog entry addressing it: http://www.chefrobertirvineblog.com/index.php/2008/07/16/

Corn on the Cob is best when ______

This year I had yellow corn shucked, silked, and grilled with butter and rosemary rolled up in foil. I have always LOVED Silver Queen, but this was VERY tasty!

Can you go wrong with fresh corn?

I'm going to be packing quinoa salad also! Ingredients for mine are quinoa, green onions (packing a toothbrush, too!), cherry or grape tomatoes, and celery marinated in homemade balsamic vinaigrette. Yum! Don't need much more until afternoon snack!

Corn on the Cob is best when ______

Grilled with the husk on! NO need to soak or remove the silk beforehand unless the husk is extremely dried out. Then, butter and seasalt and the shameful secret.

When it comes to corn on the cob--ONLY crappy powdered black pepper will do, in enormous stomach burning quantities. I will choose it over the finest fresh cracked in an instant. Only for corn...and sunny side up eggs.

From Talk

Corn on the Cob is best when ______

@PerkyMac I agree Duffield's is good but Zimmermans Farm on Salina Road is much better. There is nothing like getting corn still warm from the field to eat a couple hours later. It's so sweet and perfect.

From Talk

Corn on the Cob is best when ______

...Parmesan cheese and a 'southwestern' spice mixture are added along with the butter...it sure works for a local vendor I find at festivals and sports events (they'll sell you containers of the spice here, tho I think most of you can come up with your own)

So is Symon still going o be on Iron Chef?

From Talk

Dinner Impossible

Symon didn't cut it for me. Too happy, not enough chaos. I can see Lisa Garza from NFNS as a great Irvine replacement. She's bossy, frenetic and a good cook. Imagine her flying through a tiny, crowded kitchen in her designer clothes, high heels and wearing one of her signature aprons. That's entertainment in and of itself. She'd probably spend a great deal of time dodging flying objects being hurled at her by her sous chefs. Bring Lisa back.

When it's cold out and I'm in a rush, I will pack a can of soup and a bowl. Many soup cans have pop-tops now so you don't even need a can opener. If you choose wisely, a whole can of soup is less than 300 calories.

Some days I pack a mason jar half full of skim milk and my favorite breakfast cereal. Super easy.

Seeds of Change brand makes some really great rice/grain mixes that you pop in the microwave for 90 seconds. I pair this with Quorn patties or some other meatless 'chicken' patty and a few frozen veggies.

left aside for the corn lovers. Can't deal with it, myself.

From Talk

Corn on the Cob is best when ______

Boil in water until crisp but tender. No butter, no salt. It is sweet perfection just the way it is.

I really don't like butter on my corn (greasy and messy)...or salty corn for that matter. Corn was intended to be sweet!

EDIT TO 30 MINUTES, THIS WAS SORT OF A FLUFF PIECE. I AM HOPING THAT THE REGUALR SERIES WILL GO BACK TO AN HOUR FORMAT. HAVING IRVINE'S VOICE IN MY HEAD AND SIMON'S LAUGH MAKE THE NARRATION A LITTLE FREAKY.

From Talk

Dinner Impossible

@ Pumpkinbear: It's not just you. I found Irvine's histrionics very entertaining. I don't think he treated people like crap, unlike some other reality-show chefs (ahem). Symon seems like a talented chef and a really pleasant guy, and I'd happily eat anything he prepared. Unfortunately, as a television personality, he leaves me cold.

From Talk

Dinner Impossible

I found myself bored with the Michael Symon episode... He didn't seem to have any passion for doing the task, thus it felt like he was punchin in for a paycheque. Yawn-o-la

From Talk

Dinner Impossible

I dug Michael Symon on the show, although I have to watch it in secret because his giggle drives my partner crazy. A nice change was that it seemed like Symon was having fun, like the whole experience was fun. I never really got that from Irvine's time on the show.

From Talk

Dinner Impossible

@izatryt--Let's face it, Iz, whenever you break away, they pull you back in.

@all: Symon is a food god, and Dinner: Impossible is now worth watching. Not that I thought Muscly Bob was all bad, but Symon, so far, is just all good.

All that's coming up in our area (Indy) are still the repeats! What gives! My tivo is not locating any new ones I even did a manual search.

The show isn't called the Robert Irvine Show, it's Dinner Impossible. If the execs change the host each year, so what? Get over it.

From Talk

Dinner Impossible

I love Michael Symon, and I think he is a great replacment for Irvine. He was a pretty good chef, but unlike the previous poster, I didn't like the way he stressed out all the time.... Michael Symon is cool (and funny) under pressure!

Corn on the Cob is best when ______

I just roasted corn on the cob with the lime/butter trick and thought it was fantastic....mix up butter with lime juice and cilantro, and smear all over the cob. then wrap in foil and roast in the oven for about 25-30 minutes. i also think this would be good with butter/paprika mix. yum!

From Talk

Corn on the Cob is best when ______

I love it grilled with cheese and a little cayenne pepper and chili powder, but since I rarely grill, I boil it--cob on--and like it with just a sprinkling of garlic salt.

From Talk

Corn on the Cob is best when ______

...it's barely dunked in hot water and then lightly salted.

If I'm looking for something splendiferous, I'll do the Steven Raichlen recipe with the cheese, chili powder and lime.

From Talk

Corn on the Cob is best when ______

Oven-roasted, husks on, then generously apply a compound butter with your fave dried herbs.

From Talk

Corn on the Cob is best when ______

Corn on the cob is best with steamers!(Or should I say Steamahs). Something about the clams brings out even more sweatness in the corn. I serve them with melted butter, a bowl of the pot liquer, and some apple cider vinegar. I think i'll do that this weekend , thanks for the idea.

From Talk

Corn on the Cob is best when ______

@iz at ryt? yes it iz! Unfortunately, we are late bloomers and have to inquire as to origin and vintage of any corn we find locally. At iz ryt. Late summer for us. :o(

@huneybumper ~ I'm a voracious and out-of-the-closet cob sucker. Waste not, want not, want NOW! ;-D

From Talk

@ Perky,OMG i thought i was the only one that sucked the cob after i ate the corn! thats almost as good as the corn itself.

Bringing lunch from home

I like to put my lunch together at work, so I might bring the components of a chicken souvlaki (slices or chunks of cooked chicken, pita, tzatziki sauce, lettuce and tomato).

I also like cottage cheese and melba toasts. I mix fresh herbs and pepper into the cc, schmear it on the cracker, and add sliced tomato on top. Sometimes I bring a sidecar of pepperoncini.

A nice home made fruit salad rounds it out.

From Talk

Bringing lunch from home

today i am having a small pita stuffed with hummus, avocado and cucumbers, yuummm! also, some fruit and cereal in the morning.
