In Gear: Tools Kept for Once-a-Year Dishes
Dark is beautiful and rich!
I realized my V-Slicer is almost 20 yrs old the other day as I was slicing 10lbs of onions as quick as I could for french onion soup. It still works great.
I have a gas wall oven and a loveāhate relationship with it. The dial is messed up, so I have to kind of feel my way toward the temperature I need. I've started setting all of my cooking times for ten minutes fewer per hour than recipes call for. But I love it. It heats so quickly and evenly. I love it. I hate it. I love it.
I have one of those old meat grinders, too. It was my grandmother's. She always used it to pop cranberries on Thanksgiving for her cranberry salad...a bag of cranberries run through the grinder, followed by a couple sliced apples, mixed with lots of sugar & some pecans.
I now use it once a year, for the same thing.
Aww, now I'm nostalgic for cookies from my mom's cookie press, her big collander inset pot, and getting to pick your favorite cocktail fork for appetizers!
