Holiday Entertaining- Is this Appropriate?

@ mumrthigal- I agree! I'm chinese and all of the parties I went to growing up and that my family hosted were all 'potluck' - the hosting family made a bunch of dishes, but each family also brought some wine, dessert, and or a dish or two.

However, after coming to college and seeing the parties here, as well as my half jewish boyfriend's family parties and such, apparently parties not specified potluck are just the hosts' responsibilities...0.o

Just wondering, do you feel okay eating alone at a restaurant?

I do feel like the bar is a more 'accepted' place - but I'm not 21 yet, so I always get that awkward feeling when I think about sitting at the bar. I've had a couple of meals alone, and I don't really mind it - sometimes get some odd looks at the youngin' eating at a nice place alone though!

With a lot of milk -either skim or whole, and with a sweet and low - not very gourmet but I love it and it keep me awake!

Hansen's Sno-Bliz in New Orleans

Looks great - but do the prices seem really expensive? They all seem to be in the range of 4.50-800 on that board, and it's really just broken up ice + sugar syrup...

Good Philly Restaurant for Mom and Me?

Post-dinner Review:

So we ended up going to Matyson for their Crab tasting menu, and we loved it! There was such a strong undercurrent of crab flavor all throughout the savory plates, and 4 of the 5 courses were great (the other one had a veal sweetbread and we didn't like the inner texture, but really enjoyed the crab and asparagus fritatta underneath).

We started with a softshell crab on some mango-jicama slaw. The crab was so full of crab juice and meat on the inside yet still crispy and perfectly salted on the outside. The slaw was very tasty but an unique accompaniment in my opinion. Next was the jumbo lump crab dumplings in a curry sauce. Again, a lot of crab and was tasty! I told my mother these reminded me of the Chinese xiao long bao and wished all xiao long bao were full of crab. The third course was our absolute favorite - a rather simple risotto with dungeness crab, blueberries, and 'hen of the woods'. SO DELICIOUS!! The best way to describe it is...'lipsmackingly savory'. I wanted more!! The fourth plate was the one with the veal sweetbread - again, the crab/asparagus fritatta underneath was savory and delicious, but we weren't used to the sweetbread texture on the inside (although the seared crust was pretty tasty). Last, we had a lemon souffle dessert with a scoop of sorbet, passionfruit perhaps (I don't remember the sorbet flavor).

For $45 dollars each, we were both very pleased with this tasting menu and loved the flavors and getting multiple plates of delicious food. This week is escargot!!

What will you eat to end Passover?

I'm getting my bf a sticky sticky bun from Flour Bakery - I don't think he's had one yet!! He's off to SF tomorrow to visit a friend, so he'll have some good company on the flight there =)

Food related - my bf got me an EasyBake oven!! It was a joke because I had mentioned to him while out in target one day that I had always wanted one but never had one, and he remembered and got me one loll.
