Fresh whole wasabi root, kaffir limes in NYC?

A site I use a lot is food411.com - I have actually purchase both fresh wasabi and kaffir lime from resources on this site.

What's good in Charleston SC?!

I 2ed FIG, we had an excellent dinner there. We also had a really great lunch at a very small place ( a converted house) on a side street in downtown, but I can not remember the name! I think is began with a C. Long wait for lunch but it was worth the wait.

I use it for local reviews, very helpful

You should try Food411.com - it is a very useful food directory site that is very selective. It is my resource whenever I sent a food gift --or need a specific ingredient etc. They have a few resources that deliver chef made meals, so I think it will be helpful

Yeah, it was in the far cooler on the left side of the store (if you are looking in from the entrance). Granted, this was about a year ago, but they also say they get them in often on their website: http://thai-grocery.com/

Zingermans in Ann Arbor has some delicious things grouped in theme baskets, or you could put your own selection together. www.zingermans.com

The place on 104 Mosco street is where I went, they didn't have any, and said they never do, all they had was the powder. Are you sure that's where you saw them? Zach, thanks for the tip, I'll try the one on Mulberry.

Yeah as everyone else said, I've seen both the leaves and the actual limes at Bangkok Center Grocery (104 Mosco St.).

I've seen fresh wasabi at Mitsuwa Marketplace (595 River Rd, Edgewater, NJ). Its about $100 per pound there for the fresh root. I've never bought it, because I can't afford it.

Yeah, the Thai grocery store on Mosco hasn't had Kaffir lime leaves the past two times I've gone... however, I did find some this past weekend at the Thai/Indonesian/Malaysian(?) grocery store around the corner, on Mulberry btw. Mosco & Bayard (West side of the Street). Just ask the guys in front, and they have them stored in fridges behind all the fresh fruit & veggies. $3 for a small bag.

These are all such great suggestions. I had to laugh at the Elgin's sausage - Elgin is 2 hours from me, It is so easy to forget something simple and local like that good sausage.

I also overlooked doing something simple like baking cookies or perhaps sending coffee and biscotti - and I have a great biscotti recipe.

I had never heard of the Lobsta Gram - I have to admit that one really looks interesting.

I am going to look through the sites and see what makes sense.

Whatever I pick this time, I now have some really cool resources for future food gifting - and I so appreciate you all taking the time to give me suggestions.

I have used Yelp before. At first it looked awesome but then a lot of the restaurants I was searching for only had one or two reviews at best, so I didn't get much use from it. But it's a great site!

My brother and I have used igourmet.com for quite a few food gifts, never had a problem. Quite a nice selection too.
