My recent breakfast has been Turkey, mayo and spicy sweet pickles on a potato roll.

What an interesting thread to read through...
I wonder though... What if it was Le Creuset that had sponsored the question? or Williams Sonoma perhaps?

We use the microwave all the time for steaming veggies, baking sweet potatoes, cooking bacon, boiling water for oatmeal, cream of wheat and couscous. I haven't tried cooking meat but based on xutopia's suggestion, Im going to try salmon.

What food(s) did you love as a kid and now can't stand?

Amaretto cookies - My parents would always buy them for Christmas parties and would save a handful for me. These days, just the smell makes me gag.

Worst Food You Ate at a Party

Undercooked lamb at an Easter dinner. What made it so bad was that I had just found out I was pregnant (at the stage where the smell of water made me ill) and we hadnt told anyone yet. I spent most of the dinner hiding pieces of meat under my mashed potatoes like a kid ;)

absentminded kitchen disasters

Many many times, I have grabbed the handle of a saute pan after pulling it out of a 400 + degree oven. Usually, as I am mindlessly reaching for the handle, I am thinking 'I really need to put the oven mitt on that handle before I grab it' then half a second later; "AGGHHHHHFUUU*KSONNOVAB*&#HMUTHAFER!!!"

Simple Question: What did you have for dinner?

Sauteed Pork Chops, stove top stuffing, leftover mashed sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and biscuits. I was so tired from Christmas shopping, I just kept pulling stuff out of the pantry and fridge.

History of the Theta Burger?

The Theta is indeed an Oklahoma original and probably attributable to the late great Split T (or the T Bar to afficianados), but it has certainly entered the Okie culinary vernacular and decent examples abound. I grew up in Tulsa and we used to get pretty good Thetas at Charlie Mitchell's (eponymous pub of the great Scottish footballer/hooligan) but my favorite was probably the one served at JP Sousa's. The buns were nice and toasty (essential from an engineering standpoint to keep your theta a hand sandwich) and they gave you extra hickory sauce for your curly fries. The fact that you ordered by phone from your table was a bonus.
It should be noted that an according to hoyle Theta is an all or nothing proposition. The pickles, mayo (not miracle whip), and shredded chedar (not sliced american) are what make it what it is and are as essential to the outcome as the hickory sauce. Just as a Martini with an onion is a Gibson so too is a Theta minus one of it's contituants an altogether different thing. It may sound like an odd combination, but people eat special mushrooms hunted by trained pigs so...try to be open minded.
As far as the name is concerned, I had always heard that it was after the sorority. Seems likely. Burgers are pub grub. Not hard to find a sorority girl in a bar (especially not in OKC area). If you run the phrase "I ate a theta" together, it sounds greek. Back when I was at OU, there was a bar called Denko's that used to advertise "Eat a Theta @ Denko's". They also had a chili 5way that they called the Darlin'. You used to see people sporting tshirts that said "I ate my Darlin' at Denko's". Good stuff.

Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken

it would have to be hands down to chick fil a. take into consideration the quality of their food as well as price point, flavor and texture. i've had both. i was Extremely disappointed with mcdonalds (as always really). i'm not one for take out and fast food however knowing that chick fil a hand batters each breast, fresh (Actually Fresh!) is a winner. i worked at a mcdonalds - it makes no sense how they are comparable - to me its a sad sad copy cat. oh, PS...mcdonald's "southern style" chicken on a biscuit is also a joke.

I really hate pickles on a chicken sandwich period, no matter who makes it! I always pick them off!

From Serious Eats

Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken

Chick-Fil-A definitely has the better sandwich but McDonald's is not a bad second if you can't get to CFA! McDonald's is open later and on Sundays!

Mmmm...Non-Breakfast Food Breakfast

I am not a huge fan of breakfast foods for some reason. I will eat regular (lunch, dinner) foods at any time of day. Leftovers from a restaurant, pizza, soup, anything....

Mmmm...Non-Breakfast Food Breakfast

@sugartoast--that sounds awesome.

I love love love leftover homemade chicken noodle soup for breakfast. Today I woke up at 4am for some unknown reason and couldn't get back to sleep. It's now 7:30 and I have made a huge pot of bolognese. Breakfast was a wee bowl of the hot sauce with some multigrain bread to dip.

From Talk

Mmmm...Non-Breakfast Food Breakfast

I eat soup or a sandwich for breakfast most days and I love eggs for dinner. I've always been this way but there is also a practical reason. I can't eat for an hour after I take my thyroid meds in the morning so I eat at my desk. Soup and sandwiches work better than eggs (can't stand them if they're not freshly cooked) or cereal (I hate having to transport milk.)

an unheated can of ravioli on hiking trips -- definitely cold pizza is a favorite -- and slices of yesterday's baguette topped with olive oil and salt

From Talk

Mmmm...Non-Breakfast Food Breakfast

Wow, I'm almost completely the opposite. I can eat any breakfast food at any time of the day, and pretty much do - omelettes/scrambled eggs for lunch or dinner happen multiple times a week, along with a slice of toast, a muffin, or hash browns - but I really can't do anything for breakfast besides traditional breakfast food. The only exceptions are cold pizza (but no, I can't do cold pasta, Chinese food or anything else), and dessert. No problem knocking off a slice of chocolate cake or a few cookies with my coffee. But that's really it...

From Talk

Mmmm...Non-Breakfast Food Breakfast

Growing up, we could have anything "real" for breakfast. No cake, pie, cookies, pudding. So, since I have always had a problem with milk (and heartily dislike it), soup, smoked pork chops, leftover hamburgers, Taylor pork roll and eggs worked for me and my pushy father. He was the breakfast fascist in our house; my mom wasn't a breakfast person and couldn't care less, as long as we ate something!
Now, I love making eggy/carby breakfasts and take my time eating and reading the paper.

i totally agree with the cold pizza and cold chinese food. delicious! ill also eat pasta, or whatever happens to be leftovers. leftover mac and cheese. the oddest would prob be potato salad, my mom makes the best dill potato salad.

Mmmm...Non-Breakfast Food Breakfast

the first meal of the day for me is nearly always leftovers that are in the fridge from last night's dinner. if i'm on my own for dinner (no point in cooking up a ton of food for the house), i'll make bacon, fried eggs, and toast.

What About Corn on the Cob?

I love corn without any fixings -- dunked in plain, boiling water for a couple of minutes, as well as raw.

Mmmm...Non-Breakfast Food Breakfast

I am amazed so many serious eaters enjoy untraditional breakfasts - I remember 60 years ago, I thought my sister was weird because she always fancied sweet things like, ice cream, cake or pie for breakfast. She is now in her late 50's and she says she has to fight that same temptation still. I was always a traditional toast and jam, or oatmeal or cereal and fruit breakfast eater, but a real indulgence is still my very favorite - crispy bacon, fried eggs and toast!

From Talk

What About Corn on the Cob?

Try this method. It hasn't been presented above and it is the recipe of a famous French Canadian cook of the genre of Julia Child. Use very fresh, sweet corn, husk and place in cold water with some sugar - squeeze the juice of 1/2 a lemon, then throw it in the water. Add a tray of ice cubes and cover. Bring to a boil covered, then removed lid and turn the heat off. The corn will be crisp and flavourful. It can be eaten as is, but I prefer to butter, S & P it before eating. I also like to put the cobs on some paper towel to absorb any water. I would love to hear any feed back if someone tries this method.

From Talk

Mmmm...Non-Breakfast Food Breakfast

I totally love breakfast food, but am usually too groggy in the morning to do anything about that. Instead, it's almost always leftovers. My last three breakfasts:
--some leftover duck stuffing
--green bean, green tomato, & shallot salad
--Ben & Jerry's strawberry cheesecake ice cream

What About Corn on the Cob?

I discovered this trick last summer. Peel off outer husks, wrap ear in paper towel and microwave for about 40 seconds. Handle VERY carefully - will be super hot. Peel back husks and the silk comes off all in a clump. Then brush with melted butter and add S&P and devour. This is sometimes my whole dinner!.

Super good.

From Talk

What About Corn on the Cob?

I too am married to a Southern Man. I found that "True Southerners" do not add sugar or salt to the water when boiling fresh corn on the cob, they add about a tablespoon of Dark Karo Syrup! Yummy Sweetness and brilliant color! I am a convert to this method!

The verdict! Anne Burrell's new show - Did you watch?

I like Anne Burrell. I like her show. The only complaint I have is that the show is entirely too short. A note to Food Network; most formal classes last forty-five minutes to an hour. Why? Because it is hard for anyone to absorb a useful amount of information in a shorter period of time. It is VERY hard for a teacher to deliver a useful amount of information to students in a shorter period of time.

Those complaining about Ms. Burrell's style should go out and find out what it is like to actually live a real life. Most of what I have read has been limp-wristed twaddle.
