Best Fried Chicken in NYC?
The topic says it all.
The topic title says it all. I work in the mid-30s on 8th ave, and usually only take a short amount of time for my lunch breaks. I'm Looking to move beyond Gray's Papaya and S&S Indian Express.
Hi everyone, my girlfriend and I really want to find the most delicious pita in New York City. It doesn't have to be at a sit-down restaurant or anything, if there's a terrific stand we should know about, we're all for it.
Thanks for the tips! I've had Rack & Soul, so I think Amy Ruth's is up next for me.
Day old Beef and Guinness Stew is by far my favorite. The beef and the potatoes continue to absorb flavor and tenderize overnight, making the second time around as good or better than the first.
Wow. I don't know which one to start with. It's really going to come down to how how willing my wallet is to cooperate. Any feelings on how well the stuffed pepper would work when left inside a BBQ for an hour, instead of in an oven?
I got the Norwegian sandwich. Smoked salmon, cream cheese, lettuce and capers between two thick slices of French bread. It was tasty. I'm curious what cream cheese they use, it had just the right amount of creaminess.
I turn to the Serious Eats forum whenever I'm looking for quality results from a trusted source. For the most part, the people who participate in this forum, are intelligent, thoughtful, and most importantly, know what they're talking about.
That's definitely one of the hippest places that I've ever gone to for a sandwich.
Thanks a lot! I'm going to try Macaron this afternoon.
Great recipe. I mixed in about half of the goat cheese until melted, and really liked the consistency and taste that I ended up with.
The best is at a new place that's not on your radar yet but should be: the redhead at 349 E. 13th Street (just west of 1st Ave.) Meg's fried chicken is amazing - crisp, greaseless, delicious.
[disclosure: I get extra pickled onions in my Gibson here]
Rack & Soul was excellent. However, as part of my due diligence I plan on trying many more offerings from around the city. Georgia's here I come.
actually...last night i decided i wanted to make stuffed bell peppers...so i did.
here's the recipe I came up with(i think i remember it all):
3 bell pepers, cut horizontally.
about half an onion
maybe 1tsp garlic
some rosemary, basil, oregano, what have you.
a little carrot, shredded
brown rice
cranberries
like 2 smallish eggplants.
throw all of this(in proportions to suit your need and/or desire) into a wok, or rounded saute pan, and fry the hell outta it; when it's soft enough, let it cool, and quickly mix a bit of egg, and some grated parmesan cheese into the mix. fill up the peppers, drip tomato sauce(your own if possible, or spaghetti sauce will do), and top each pepper with a slice of tomato.
cook until the peppers are soft.
this isn't anything like an exact recipe(that's not usually how i cook), so try experimenting a bit, and maybe you'll come up with something tasty.
I'm a good southern girl and I really love Dirty Bird's on W. 14th. The chicken is good and the sides are super swell...It's to-go, though.
How 'bout Birdies in the east village? It's on first ave between 9th and 10th. Not only is the chicken great, but the sides and desserts are amazing. Gotta try the peach cobbler if you go.
Damn you midtown lunch Zach being all over these NY food related blogs. Charles' Chicken I say! I do agree with you though about Popeyes.

Get thee to Georgia's BBQ on Orchard Street -- pretty much the best, non-greasy, super crunchy and flavorful fried chicken I've ever had in my life, including what my southern sister-in-law cooks up (please, don't tell her). If you can get over the no bathroom thing, the food there is so delicious and the portions are huge. Also try the cheese grits and whatever vegetable is fresh from the farmers market that day. Mmm.
