Forward to the Past: New Sliders from White Diamond in New Jersey and Mark in NYC
Nick-I though that the care and ingredients rivaled Kenny's, though I would agree that the onions may need work at Mark. Also agree on the condiments but thought they were interesting. Also have to factor in the convenience factor-Mark is always accessible, Kenny's very limited with the addition of being able to use my cell phone at the Mark without having things thrown at me.
On a separate topic, are you willing to defend the laudatory comments on this site for Bill's Bar & Burger? http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/663834

Sorry Nick-gotta disagree with you. I think Mark is comparable to Kenny's.

Katz's Deli: Go for the Pastrami, Not the Breakfast
Nick- I am surprised and disappointed that you, one of my favorite writers, has jumped on the Richman bandwagon. As I posted here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/633861 you don't order the philly cheesesteak at a NY deli. That goes for pancakes too. But Katz's salami and eggs is one of the great breakfasts that imbue existence with meaning. I have shared tables early in the morning at Katz's 9yes it does get crowded early in the morning) with memebers of two of the glorious tribes of NYC-Jews (of which I'm a card carrying member) and African-Americans. The salami and eggs provide a mutual bond among peoples who don't give a
&%$# about their cholesterol level. Please try again Nick.

Di Fara Raising Slice Prices to $5; Will Close Tuesdays in Addition to Mondays
I love Dom and the price doesn't matter but the lines. Think I'll stick to Patsy's on 117th Street, no line, fantastic slices, though I hear they may raise their price in sympathy to $2.00 a slice from the current $1.75. ;)

Reactions to the 'GQ' Top 25 Pizza List
My top 10 plus. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/305174
Ever since Richman dissed New Orleans, I've found him hard to take "seriously" but his pizza list demonstrates either a real lack of experience or simply the desire to piss people off. Even the pizzerias that he includes that I agree should be on a "top" list (e.g. Sally's), he orders something ridiculous like a potato pie. The one comment I have to agree with that he makes is that when it comes to pizza, America (specifically, IMO, NYC) has it over Italy (Napoli).

Serious Sandwiches: Tony Luke's Roast Pork Italian, Philadelphia
Adam- nice seeing you at the Hot Dog Hootenanny. Never been to the real Tony Luke's but before morphing into Shorty's (uphill on the decor, downhill on the food), the roast pork Italian at the Tony Luke's "outpost" on 9th avenue was at one point my favorite sandwich in the NYC.

Forward to the Past: New Sliders from White Diamond in New Jersey and Mark in NYC
It's possible this place has really gotten its act together; we had quite good sliders there the other night (don't like the bacon ones though.)
Serious Eats Finds New York's Best Bagel
I like Area Bagels in North Park Slope on 5th Avenue, which makes a very respectable bagel - not too big, some crunch to the crust and soft inside. The owner learned bagel making from a place out in Little Neck on Horace Harding Parkway that dates back to the late 1940's when the bagel baking union controlled the business and its quality. I will have to re-try Bagel Hole although I remember not being too impressed years ago.
Maybe my preference of getting a plain buttered (not toasted bagel) let me enjoy a fresher bagel in the store, rather than taking it home, missing out on the short freshness life.
Serious Eats Finds New York's Best Bagel
Agree with one of the above posters that Jumbo on 2nd Ave. (Manhattan) extremely underrated, and that both H&H & Ess-a-Bagel horribly overrated. Tal (a chain) is pretty decent. David on 1st Ave. had a great pumpernickel. And there's actually a good bagel now in North Brooklyn: Baker's Dozen, on Manhattan Ave. in Greenpoint. But for me, the number-one bagel is "Hot Bagels" on 79th st. & Metropolitan in Middle Village.
Serious Eats Finds New York's Best Bagel
Personal Favorites:
Brooklyn: Montague Street Bagels
Manhattan: Ess-a-Bagel
Favorite used to be Bagel Zone (Ave A between 3rd St & 4th St), until they changed their name and stopped baking their own. Was the perfect bagel -- crisp on the outside, soft and bready on the inside...I'd pay a ridiculous premium just to taste one again.
Serious Eats Finds New York's Best Bagel
I agree that Daniels in Murray Hill is pretty good. My all time Manhattan fav though, is Jumbo Hot Bagels on 56th and 2nd Ave. They are boiled, baked and delicious just like a bagel should be.
Forward to the Past: New Sliders from White Diamond in New Jersey and Mark in NYC
@NYC Food Guy Believe me, I want Mark to succeed as much as anyone (well maybe not as much as the owners) and I hope that my review will help improve things. However, I think it is fair to hold them to the standard set by White Manna, especially because the restaurants reps go out of their way to reference Manna: http://newyork.grubstreet.com/2009/10/burger_battle_steak_n_shake_st.html
I will also give Mark a second try.
@raven37457 You are right, I should have clarified the burgers to order,I actually meant to link to my original WD of Clark review which would have done so. Here it is:
@tasty trekker Thanks - it is on the radar.
@guttergouret With all due respect, you told us that they rival Kenny's but you didn't tell us why. Is the beef juicier? The bun steamed better? I don't think the fancy ketchup adds much - a properly cooked slider requires nothing in the way of condiments. Regarding the picture of the slider on Always Hungry - the cheese doesn't look melted and the onions look too charred. But to each his own.
I will return to Mark and I hope that they can approach the standard set by the great slider institutions of NJ that I have spent so much time documenting as of late.
Serious Eats Finds New York's Best Bagel
I understand the scientific urge to use the plain bagel as one litmus, but that just aint the whole tale of the taste. And I don't get the animus all the tasters apparently have against size, especially in the rising-price world, if the maker can deliver all the qualities of outer crunch, inner chew, and flavor balance. What, we want a LITTLE bagel? Hard to take that seriously. If you can experience the fresh pumpernickel at Ess-A-Bagel and not immediately comprehend how the combination of rye-and-carraway tartness and the kiss of malt create a tension that is absolutely thrilling--the single greatest bagel experience in NY--then you aren't paying attention. This is an art object. I live down the block from Rolen and Bagel Corner in Riverdale, and every weekend I travel down to 20th and First; there isn't even a serious comparison. Incidentally, Ess-A-Bagel appears, uncredited, in the poem "Creed" by contemporary poet Meg Kearney--to my knowledge, though they have satisfied many writers and appear as props in literature , these are the only bagels actually to be celebrated in a serious work. @Anapowell try any of the above with the exception of Lender's or Dunkin. They are all better than La Bagel.
The AHT Guide to Hamburger and Cheeseburger Styles
The pastrami burger that Lexalpha mentioned has been refined to perfection in the Salt Lake City area, where one-off restaurants and local chains started by Greek immigrants have made it their signature specialty. No hamburger aficionado has truly lived until he/she has experienced a Crown Burger.

@everyone: Thanks for the kudos! This was a lot of fun to put together, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm sorry if it made you hungry, but dems da breaks!
@KingT: What would you say makes a '30s-style burger? Given what I've read about burger history, I'd guess it would either be a slider (since White Castle all but revolutionized burgerdom in the late '20s and up to WWII) or a slider-style burger (a little larger but cooked in a similar fashion).
@shanella: I'm only responsible for the first photo; the rest are Flickr Creative Commons–licensed or used with permission of the photographer. I know that any of Nick Solares's or Robyn Lee's are dSLRs (Nikon D300 and Canon 20D, respectively). For any of the others that link to Flickr, you can click through and look to see if the photographer has EXIF data for the photo. That should tell you camera make/model.

From my experience it was very difficult to finish both the pint and the burger.
A culinary experience indeed.
The AHT Guide to Hamburger and Cheeseburger Styles
Very educational for us foodies Adam. Thanks for pointing out the difference between a slider and a mini burger...i always thought they were the same. I like the part about the fast food burger! lol! I think you're right about the kobe burger cause i enjoy the slight rubberiness of the minced meat against the soft bread in a regular burger...the kobe has enough brilliance to stand on it's own! What they call pimento cheese in the U.S. is what we call cheese paste in caribbean, and is often a combination of grated cheddar, mayo, grated onion, diced peppers and hot sauce, and is usually slathered between sandwich slices, cut into cute bite size triangles and served at parties.
The AHT Guide to Hamburger and Cheeseburger Styles
Noosh: I was starting an entry on them, but got so pooped out by that time (it was about 4 a.m.) that I just ended at bean burgers. Will look for a good photo of an Aussie burger and include it.
The AHT Guide to Hamburger and Cheeseburger Styles
I realise that this is about American burgers, but just for interest: in Australia it's an "Aussie" burger if it has sliced beetroot on it (and probably onions too, though possibly raw). However, the essential ingredient to make a pizza an "Aussie pizza" is egg cracked over the top just before it's put in the oven.
We're a weird bunch.
