There is a place called Sanford's on 30th street and Broadway that has awesome burgers($5.95 I believe). The place is more restaurant style, but their British Burger on an oversize english muffin is huge, juicy and flavorful. I highly recommend it.

I got to try some local place in the area and try their burgers.  Grumpy Jacks which is right behind Tara puts out a marinated burger.  I ordered it rare and it come out nice and juicy on a super busy Sat night.  Fries were ok but what brought the quality of the burger down was that they used a kaiser roll. On top of that the roll had to be a couple of days old so it tough and chewy.

Down the road (route 112) there is a new place called Rib City Ale House. It now occupies a space that has turnovered 3 times in the past 6 years so I hope they last. We went for an early dinner and ordered a cheese burger rare. It came out nicely cooked and sitting on a kaiser roll. Thinking back to last weekend I was hesitant but it was grilled so it was slightly toasted on the outside and soft on the inside. What stole the show were the onion rings. I could not get enough of them. They had to be freshly battered and fried. A light airy greaseless intense onion tasting side that paired well with a nicely cooked burger.

Quite possibly one of the best places to have a burger and beer on Long Island !!! I know that's a big statement to make here but I'm going with it!!

I have been to the Tara Inn many times and have told the people here @ AHT that you have to check it out! What is a converted bowling alley has become a food/bar warehouse. Its the only place where Bikers and families gather for a meal. Although it may not be the best burger you'll eat, they are Char broiled and are tastey!! Expect long waits on weekend nights but enjoy the cold drafts juke box and a pool table while you wait for your table. Once seated remember you have to walk up and order at the bar. Enjoy the $1.00 Tara Burger or try my fav "The Bacon Cheese Burger"! On a hot summer night with frosty A/C blowing this place always hits the spot. I have never been disappointed eating there. Nothing fancy here just plain ol good food Cheap!!! Also love their steak night and of course the lobster special 1lb lobster, soup, salad for $15.00 How do they do this? Volume Volume Volume.. Quality is always good.. A must check out ***** Enjoy!! I guess I'm going to have to wait longer now for a table thanks AHT..

@HB America aka George : If you are going to make the road trip then you also have to try, right down the road there is a place called Gourmet Burger Bistro. It opened the sametime as Bobby's Burger Palace so it was lost amid the hoopla. I have been there twice when it newly opened and I left unimpressed but maybe they have gotten better? Their menu of burgers is like Red Robin.

The food in general is pretty good and the prices are great. Their happy hour is the best time! They have these pull tabs and you can either get 10 cents, half price, or full price. I got a round of drinks for $1.00 by "finding" the 10 cent tab. It does bring in an odd crowd of college students, business men, doctors from the hospital down the block, bikers, locals, and tourist. Imagine all these people crammed into a space the size of someones livingroom.

The burger is not that bad. Not Shake Shack quality, but I rate it better than a Ruby Tuesday/Applebees burger. The fries are OK. What saves them is that they are fried perfectly. Also the wings come out with a nice crispy skin and moist meat. The rest of the menu you can not argue for the price. One of the best bar menus I have ever seen. Lobster, soup, salad and fries for $15.00!

I've tried Petey's, and it's just okay. It's basically a slightly superior version of what you'd get at Blue 9. It's nothing like Shake Shack, not even close, aside from them both being hamburgers.
