Bachelor's Jam: Preserving Fresh Summer Fruits with Booze

What a well-timed post! Just within the last week I decided I wanted to make some cucumber vodka. I had a "cucumber lemonade martini" at a local restaurant and it was delicious, so I want to try it on my own. My husband has been making cordials for years, so he was also an inspiration.

Last Week's Poll Results: Favorite Grocery Stores

My friends back home love Wegman's. Sadly, we don't have them here. I shop most often at Publix, which I prefer over Kroger's. I hit up Whole Paycheck when I want a special item. I try not to go in there too often because I usually leave with a bunch of stuff I didn't need. ;)

Alton Brown's Sardine-Avocado Sandwich Diet

I liked the episode. It was obvious to anyone who regularly watches Good Eats that Mr. Brown had recently lost a lot of weight. I was happy he addressed it. I saw him in person in August and was wondering what happened. I do think he looks a little gaunt, especially in person. I think he'll round out after a while, once he's been on a maintenance plan for long enough (as opposed to a weight loss plan).

I think his diet is sensible and not as restrictive as some people are making it out to be. Fish three times a week, red meat and pasta once a week... it seems like a pretty satisfying diet to me! Lastly, I've never tried sardines before and now I plan to, thanks to Alton Brown.

Gross Out Food Moment

When I was a child, I ate prunes that had been infested with tiny wriggling insects. To this day I cannot eat prunes or raisins. Just thinking about the wrinkly texture disgusts me.
