Eat for Eight Bucks: Meat and Two Veg

I just made this tonight, using a combo steak method. I heated a skillet in the oven at 500 degrees, then seared for about 30 seconds a side, put it back in the oven under the broiler (electric oven) for 4 minutes a side, and let it rest. i deglazed with some sherry and a little bit of butter and made a little sauce. i also steamed the carrots instead of making a salad. everything is delicious. i was literally rubbing my belly with a happy face when i decided to type up this comment. chard=delicious. nice!

There's way more than one fish taco-centric fast food chain in California. Rubio's is just the most gringo-friendly of them.
And yeah, no shark...I've had fish tacos my whole life here in San Diego and never had shark. White sauce is a much more common sauce, too.

my initial reaction was total revulsion...upon further reflection I'm not sure why I reacted that way. I've never had a whale for a pet.

The angry "we'd-never-go-back" types are forgetting that tips are an assumed part of most waitstaff's income. And if a tip is especially low, a good server should ask if the service was OK. I wouldn't be upset. If I was in a large group and the rest of my party was being stingy, I'd call them to task myself. I've never been a waiter or bartender in my life. There's just a right way to be.

How to Make a Choco Taco

I just made some coconut chewy cookies, and with a little more liquid i bet I could make a coconut-chewy taco shell...i'm getting a little drooly thinking about it.
