Grocery Girl: What Your Grocery Store Says About You

I think if you stick to shopping for the whole 365 and organic stuff you can get a comparable price to other regular store brands, and they are much better quality. I'll buy a whole foods block of cheddar which is definitely cheaper than going and getting cabot or cracker barrel at the key food near me before I would ever buy a key food brand of cheddar. Also, until frozen shrimp prices got crazy you could get a decent sized bag of frozen shrimp for under $10 there. Stick to sales and store brands at Whole Foods and it's cheaper than a normal supermarket-at least in NYC.

Spice Hunting: Turmeric

Turmeric is terrific in lamb dishes. Make Lamb Kofte with some, really great. Brown kofte then simmer in tomato sauce. serve over egg noodles.

Brooklyn Star: Reborn and Evolved in Williamsburg

I ate there a few weeks ago
had the tripe chili (really great--did add hot sauce to it though)
brussel sprouts (these were terrific and the right choice to get some veggies in!)
and the fried pig tails. The pig tails were good in a porky way, yes, but they could probably use some more flavoring in the coating. I think my hush puppies were burned (they were incredibly dark brown) and didn't taste of much besides slightly burnt. But I feel like their batter based stuff was a little off that night or it was too crazy back there--we ordered jalapeno cornbread right when we sat down and didn't get the order until food had already come out.

I tried a bite of the bacon wrapped trout--that was awesome the trout really had some bacon flavor. Chicken fried steak was MASSIVE and tasty.

I went with 8 people, the minimum to get a reservation but they really do not seem to have a seating area for this size party to sit comfortably. We're all really average sized people and we had 4 people on either bench, I couldn't even lift my elbows to eat without hitting people on either side of me. They really should have put chairs on each end of the table.

I'm using Pepperidge Farm---because that is my family tradition. I had my friends bring some to me in London last year. Maybe Pomegranate and Walnuts would be good? hmmm.

Oddly enough, the neck. It's done first because it is boiled, and when you aren't eating til dinner it tastes great!
