Cook the Book: 'Salad as a Meal'

Roasted eggplant and chickpea salad with feta, or spinach with roasted sweet potatoes and crispy bacon!

Cook the Book: 'In the Small Kitchen'

My first kitchen was in my college apartment in a tiny brownstone. The entire apartment was crooked. The kitchen was a galley with a huge fridge that took up half of the space. There was one small bit of counter, but it was where I threw my first dinner parties and my roommate showed me how to cook Indian food.

Cook the Book: 'Serve Yourself'

Lots of pasta tossed with whatever vegetable looked good that week, lots of garlic and olive oil!

Cook the Book: Barefoot Contessa, 'How Easy Is That?'

My two simplest and most elegant meals have to be braised pork in apple cider with caramelized onions and hangar steak with cherry shallot sauce. The pork just cooks away it its pot for 3 hours and comes out with a sauce ready. The steak couldn't be easier and this sauce is incredible.

The Crisper Whisperer: Share Your Favorite Fall Produce Recipes

Fall for me means sweet potatoes and apples! I love to just roast the sweet potatoes with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Sometimes I throw them into a salad with spinach, bacon, and goat cheese - check it out: http://dinnerblogging.blogspot.com/2010/03/spinach-and-sweet-potato-salad-with.html. I take a trip to an orchard every year for apples then eat them smeared with peanut butter or in a rich apple crisp!

Weekend Cook and Tell: Squash Invasion!

Last week I saw a gorgeous zucchini at the farmers market and scooped it up along with some heirloom tomatoes. I sliced it up thin and sauteed it in olive oil with heaps of garlic and some red chili flakes. Then I tossed it with some spaghetti and threw in the diced up heirlooms right at the end to just barely warm them. It was so delicious and fresh, like summer in a bowl! It took no time either!

Giada Di Laurentiis! Her house in Malibu looks just gorgeous and I love her food.

Cutty's Brings a Signature Sandwich to Boston

I live directly around the corner from Cutty's. It's a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I've had the ham on the baguette and it was delicious. Sichuan Garden right across the street is also a total hidden gem. And you can't leave out Brookline Family Restaurant, which is Turkish, next door to the Sichuan place. It's a Brookline institution.

I have to also echo @Avocado's suggestion to review Wan Convenience Store. The sandwiches are really good and HUGE. Plus, dealing with Al is an experience worth writing about.

Must eat in LA

Monte Alban is a 10 minute drive from Century City and is worth it. You can't get Oaxacan food other places. The mole is mind blowing. There are also some really good sushi restaurants around there.

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: La Quercia

I have made amazing crostinis for parties with proscuitto, apricot preserves, fontina cheese and a basil leaf. I love the sweet and salty combo!

Have You Ever Deep Fried a Turkey for Thanksgiving?

Yes! It's so good as long as you are willing to really watch over it and take a lot of time on it. My friends made one a few years in a row in a makeshift fryer outside on their tiny lawn. There were really no disasters because they really studied how to do it right. The skin is just incredible.

Cook the Book: 'How to Roast a Lamb'

I love lamb in almost any way - a rare chop with mint jelly, souvlaki, or recently I tried adana, which is a Turkish dish. It's my favorite meat.

Cook the Book: 'New Classic Family Dinners'

My mom makes this incredible sweet and sour brisket, which you cook the night before, slice, and let sit overnight in a sauce of many things including ketchup, orange juice, and brown sugar. It is so delicious! She always made it around Hannukah, and we'd eat it along side freshly made potato pancakes with applesauce. Now that's comfort!

Weekend Cook and Tell: Pumpkins Everywhere!

Tomorrow I'm planning to make the Pumpkin Turkey Chili that was posted in the Healthy & Delicious column a few weeks ago, for Sunday football. I love the idea of using the healthy but rich pumpkin puree to thicken the chili, and I love adding a touch of sweet to a savory dish. I'll be writing about it in my blog tomorrow (http://dinnerblogging.blogspot.com)

What Was Your Favorite School Cafeteria Food?

I wasn't too big on cafeteria food but I always loved when they would have the special "holiday" hot turkey meals right before vacations. An ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes, a slice of turkey with that brown canned gravy and the always random slice of white bread to soak it up. Old fashioned yum.

Cook the Book: 'Gourmet Today'

The first cookbook I ever remember using is my mom's copy of our elementary school PTA fundraiser cookbook. Everyone had to bring in a recipe to put in the book. We still use a banana bread recipe from that book 20 years later. But the first book I ever received was a Jewish cookbook for my bat mitzvah. It was more interesting reading than for cooking but every once in a while I can make some comfort food.

Taste Test: Greek Yogurt

Trader Joe's has a low-fat plain version now and I think it's really good. After running out of honey, I started stirring in a little maple syrup and now I am obsessed. However, I tried the fat-free vanilla that the taste testers liked and I was not a fan - I thought it tasted like very obvious sugar substitute.

Cook the Book: 'What We Eat When We Eat Alone'

I've made lots of full meals for myself - I think it is actually the most fun to cook alone because there is no pressure and it can be just an enjoyable way to pass the time.

But I've been known to do big egg and cheese sandwiches for dinner by myself...chicken sausage if I have it, scrambled eggs, and a big hunk of pepper jack cheese.

Best Mexican food in LA ?

I second avoiding El Coyote, it is very generic food and I've heard that their owners were avid supporters of Prop 8, if that matters to you.

Tacomiendo is very good, their homemade tortillas are really delicious. Also someone mentioned tortas, which I miss desperately, and Tacomiendo does those as well.

Best Mexican food in LA ?

Wow...where to start? I don't know the name of it (I'm sure someone can chime in) but my friend just told me about a taco stand near Los Feliz that has a James Beard Award. But I highly recommend Monte Alban in West LA. It is in a really sketchy looking strip mall but don't let that fool you. They make the most amazing mole I have ever had. I moved out of LA a few months ago but that is one of the few places I will insist on returning to when I visit.

Is Los Angeles the Best Jewish Deli Town?

I'm not sure I'd pick LA over NYC but LA does have some good delis. I'm partial to Canter's myself. A lot of the other delis are overrated in my opinion - Factor's and Junior's in particular.
