I want to try ___________.
Due to a combination of location, age and budget, I've never had a bahn mi or a French macaron, and I would looove to eat both of these. What are the foods you've never had and would love to try?

I'm the opposite of kmalldi - I haaate the texture of raw bananas, though the flavour is fine and I love them in smoothies. This is odd, since I do like many of the things that other people don't because of their texture - cottage cheese and jello for example.
My all-time nemesis is caraway seed. I have had many a good cheese and bread combination ruined by them.
I daydream about being able to cover cupcakes with brightly coloured icing all day...
I third How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman. I too am a student just starting culinary adventures and this book has been very helpful. It has a great mix of the basics as well as more adventurous recipes, and lots of good information about ingredients, methods and equipment.
B - Yes, caesars all the way! They're so refreshing and a nice change from sweet drinks. It's a total Canadian thing.
I also enjoy gin & tonics and mojitos. Awesome, I know what I'm doing after work today!
As a university student in the process of moving to a new apartment, I think it's an interestign concept. Though, it's kind of a shame that so many of these things are bought new, only to be discarded a few years later.
I bought much of the above PLUS a frying pan and a fully functional coffee maker from a thrift store for about $30. If you're not spending tons of money, it's worth it to look at second-hand things.
mmm, pancakes are my favourite breakfast, with fresh blueberries and lots of real maple syrup!
I've never had a bahn mi, though my interest is piqued now. A favourite sandwich of mine, though not terribly original, is crusty multigrain bread, good dijon mustard, a creamy cheese like edam or provolone, and lots of crisp and spicy greens and edible flowers!
Nothing beats lots of butter and salt over air-popped pocorn, though the chili powder + lots of freshly grated parmesan mix is also really good.
For something sweet, I like to melt a little honey in the microwave and drizzle that on. (It gets sticky though, so I often resort to eating it with a spoon...)
When the bags were for sale at Holt Renfrew up here in Canada, most of the people buying one carted it out of the store INSIDE a separate Holts shopping bag.
I hate how utterly greedy and ridiculous this whole thing is.
LIDIA IS YOUR BEST BET RIGHT NOW TO GO FOR ITALIAN FOOD .
MOST OF HER RECIPE ARE SIMPLE A TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL WAY OF COOKING.
MARIO CAN BE A BIT COMPLEXED
YES JADA IS A JOKE, SHE IS NOT AN ITALIAN COOK STAY AWAY FROM HER STUPID RECIPE
wow what is with the dereogatory bashing against giada? The way someone dresses has nothing to do with their cooking ability, remember this is food network not style so her clothing choice should not affect you this much. If you think Giada dresses so 'sleezy' you must think that Sandra Lee dresses similar to a prostitue. And might i add that she adds a twist to italian food therefore making them not authentic but her take. And her recipies have all turned out incredible for me so maybe its not the recipe.......
back on topic Lidia B is definitly the way to go for the most authentic recipies
I can't stand tomatoes or green peppers. My mom's side of the family is Italian, so these two dislikes were particularly difficult growing up(sausage & peppers, peppers and eggs, tomato salad, caprese salad...) I've only recently come around on red peppers. And cooked tomato things like sauce and ketchup are fine by me. Raw tomatoes, though, are horrifying to me and seem always to be added to otherwise perfectly good things in order to "enhance" them; e.g. guacamole, spinach and artichoke dip (garnish), black bean soup (garnish), fajitas and burritos (you didn't tell me there'd be pico de gallo!!)...
i hate raw tomatoes...
Not overly common, but I can't stand pinenuts. With you on the capers, yuck. And all you celery haters? I love it enough for all of you:)
I've had the ones made with lemon. Still get hives. I've never had a eggless mayo though...
pbisNOTmyname: "the doctor says its a reaction between the egg and vinegar".
There are many Mayos made with lemon instead of vinegar, and there are vegan Mayos made without egg (which aren't bad considering how little egg there really is in most commercial mayo).
Ever tried them?
peekpoke, you're certainly entitled to your opinion about this all being in our minds--but what preconceived notion could I possibly have about celery, which I have hated since I first encountered it as a child?
this won't add much, but i agree that green bell peppers should be banned from any recipe, although i don't mind them raw on a crudite plate.
Peekpoke--the doctor says its a reaction between the egg and vinegar... and it is really hard to ignore the hives/uncontrollable headache that pop up whenever I eat mayo/mayo based foods.
I'm not a fan of celery either. But what I really can't stand is cantaloupe. YUCK. The smell makes me ill.
