Brookline, MA: Going Meat-Light at Sichuan Garden

When I was working in a Chinese kitchen, I tried the pickled green beans for the first time; we had it as a weekly staff meal. They are really sour (almost lip-puckeringly sour) and took a bit of time to get used to, but then the sourness turned into deliciousness, I remember eating just a few pieces at a time balanced with a big bite of rice. There were also shreds of smoked duck in it which gave it even more bite!

5 Places To Get Vegan Sweets In San Francisco

Be sure to check out a Snapdragon Baking Co. based in San Jose, CA. They recently won a good foods award for their non vegan brittle, but they do have a selection of tasty vegan baked goods/sweets as well.

Last slide- Juice could have been slurped from the plate. Also, breaking the dumpling on the plate shows how much juice there is and how delicious the broth is inside the dumpling. The broth looks so shiny/flavorful. Well executed, Laura Togut.

The Food Lab: How to Make Tonkotsu Ramen Broth at Home

Kenji,

I just wanted to let you know how important/groundbreaking this post is. As a tonkotsu ramen fan, there has always been that unbeatable mystery behind the broth. I feel like you've just unlocked a secret door for everyone with your hard work and trial and error and testing. Thanks! One day, when I am ready, I will embark on a journey to make a subliminal soup broth and I am certain that this recipe or knowledge even will be the building block that I base my creation on. Thanks again. There is something so inexplicably amazing about this kind of food.

Twin Cities Food Suggestions?

Hey SE'rs,

I'm going to St. Paul next week to hang out with my older brother for spring break. I did the same thing last year and we had a great time and I ate a lot of awesome food. So I'm doing it again a year later. Any restaurant or food place suggestions to try out? I'm coming from an upstate new york college student diet, so I'm looking to eat the things I'd never be able to get while back at school. noodles, walleye, mexican food? Help me out locals!

Suggestions for Minn/St. Paul Twin Cities

I'm visiting my brother for spring break in a couple weeks in St. Paul. and am excited to try some good food. Any recommendations? I am open to all sorts of food, but are there any nearby institutions I should try? I am looking for a mix of no frills, more economical food places and maybe one or two fancier restaurants. Thanks!

Where should I eat in NYC?

I am going to be in NYC for a few days this weekend, we have a fall break, and I'll be staying in a friend's dorm in Columbia. I'm from the west coast and It will pretty much be my first time in the city. I'm also Chinese, and I miss Asian flavors terribly. There are a couple of things that I feel like I MUST try

1) Paulie Gee
2) A true NY Bagel (lox?)
3) A true NY 'ZA
4) Hide-chan (I love ramen)

Any other must-haves? I am a college student after all. This will be a splurge, so the cheaper gems are what I need. Thanks so much!

Grillin' on the Bay in Brooklyn: Where Barbecue Gets Loose

I've been told many a time that "grilling" is not "barbecue." Barbecue heads dedicated to one true definition of the word will never adopt a steak seared over hot coals into a family of slow-smoked briskets—to do so would violate the mystique of "low and slow" barbecue culture. That's exactly why I found it refreshing to see nineteen barbecue teams throw "low and slow" out the window in favor of quick, grill-based cooking at the seventh annual Grillin' on the Bay barbecue contest in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.
