Good Pasta near 6th Ave in the 20's or Teens?

I like Via Emilia and Giorgio's of Gramercy. Ditto to Basta Pasta as well.

Brunch near Union Sq?

My twin sister posted this (Hi Sas!) She meant NYC Union Square. Thanks for the help on both coasts! We love SE. And food. And eachother. Did I mention we are also offensively corny? True story.

I love _____ but I'm allergic to it!

@littlestcapy - me too on the apples! Ate an apple a day for years and years and one day my face and hands just blew up after eating one (not the most attractive thing to happen at work). I was soo bummed and still get a little melancholy when I walk by the fruit stands and know I can not have a Granny Smith anymore.

Eating with Dieters

This is such a hot topic for me! I eat healthy for the most part and despise when people point out or make fun of my healthy food selections. I have found I get the most comments from people who struggle with their own weight and dieting. I get the impression they resent others who have the willpower to order veggies and hummus when snacking at happy hour, and not tater tots and pork sliders (yes, this is a specific example) so they go into attack mode. I am not sharing my opinion on what they order, because I do not care. Why the need to make me feel uncomfortable? Can we all please keep our eyes on our own work? (Forks, however, are free to wander... unless you are mocking my food selection!)

Photo of the Day: Root Beer Float

Growing up, my bus stop was ridiculously far from my house- I may as well have just walked to school by the time I got there (and yes, it was uphill, at least on the way home. I kid you not). On really hot and humid days, my mom would freeze one of my dad's giant beer mugs. Then just before I got home, she'd fill it 3/4 with Coca Cola (Classic) and then add Breyer's Vanilla Ice Cream. It was simple, but after schlepping my then tiny body up hill with my huge book bag, it was like seeing an oasis in the middle of the dessert. If that is not love, I don't know what is. My mom was, and still is, the best!

Emotional Eating: Strange Cravings when you're ANGRY!

If I am really wound up from work, I need wine- German Riesling or New Zealand Sauv Blanc, preferably- I can not drink anything dry if I am tense!

Food wise- Dumplings. For some reason, dumplings are a comfort food to me.

Strange but Tasty Childhood Snacks

**broiled salami dipped in ketchup (I would eat today, sans ketchup)
**saltines crushed in milk sprinkled with sugar (the thought makes my stomach turn)
**mustard sandwiches on white bread, but only honey mustard (I could still eat honey mustard with a spoon. Am I normal?)

Such a fun thread, although giving me the mid-afternoon munchies!!

Eaters and eating disorders

At my predominately Jewish high school in Long Island, pretty much every girl was, in some way shape or form, exhibiting some disordered eating. However, I was the only one who managed to lose 35 pounds, whittling down to a scale-tipping 70 pounds, and have myself pulled out of school and thrown into a clinic for 3 months (I've always been an overachiever!).

As someone with an ED will tell you, the obsession with food is permeating and infects every part of your life. I could not get through 10 minutes, much less an hour, without thinking about what I would or would not eat. This was truly crippling and did not allow me to focus on what the root causes were that were making need to control this part of my life in such a manner. However, with the help of some excellent doctors and nutritionists, I was able to get to a point where I could think clearly and address these issues and save myself. More importantly, with the help of an amazing therapist, I was able to recognize that I WANTED to save myself, which is the key ingredient, so to speak, of recovery.

Next Tuesday is my 10 year anniversary of being hospitalized (I will be celebrating at Gramercy Tavern or 11 Madison Park. Or Pamplona, to shake things up a bit- I have yet to decide and am open to more suggestions!) I currently consider myself a 'foodie' and love to eat, cook, talk about food, read about food, and mostly eat food. Back at 17, I never imagined I would have such a healthy relationship with the stuff, even though I am equally as obsessed as I was back than. I guess the major difference is then I saw food as a way to punish myself and control my life, and now I see it as something that brings me pleasure, engages me in fun socializing with loves ones, has fueled me through 2 marathons and will power me though a long and healthy life- one that I deserve.

I strongly encourage anyone suffering to seek help and please tell yourself you are worth nourishing and keeping alive. Keep reminding yourself, get physically healthy and I promise, some day you will believe it, even if you don't at first.

How To Save Money at Supermarkets

For New Yorkers- buy (seasonal) fruit from the street vendors. Just as good as the store bought (after a good washing) and as much as half the cost. One day someone will have to explain to me why it costs double to buy bananas under a roof than it does under street vendor umbrella.
