Is There Any Reason for This to Exist: The Ham Dogger

@DenghisCon and dbcurrie, I was pulling for sex, drugs, rock and roll, and chicken fried steak. Perhaps you could post on some of these other topics Marcus..

However, you are going to be in big trouble if you eat at burger king, don't like mustard on your burger, or get a burger cooked anyway other than rare.

I've got a knee available for any of your foreheads I see bitching about the quality of a $1 burger..

One of Houston's Best Burgers at Stanton's City Bites

Hello All,

I'm a long time AHT reader from Houston but have never commented before. However, this is my favorite burger place in Houston and at $3.50 for a bacon cheeseburger it is quite a steal. I like to pick up a bag full of these burgers for our employees every now and then.

@Kenji: Ima gonna ignore the hamster thing. DOODEEDOOODOOOO

Oh yeah, I did watch the whole video, but without the use of any actual meat/fillings, it didn't leave much of an impression on me. Then again, I'm not the target audience for this thing seeing as I almost never prepare food at home. :(

@Robyn

Wait a minute - just watched the video. You missed the most important part - turn the top half of the mold upside down, and it allows you to create a trough in the middle of the burger-dog to fill with your favorite toppings, like cheese, bacon, or vegetables! Jucy Lucy Dogs! Incredible!

On a further note of surreality, my wife just came over and asked me to sniff her hamster's butt. It smelled as you would expect.

@robyn

Hooray for white trash seafood!

That reminds me of salchipapas, which happen to be one of my wife's favorite. I don't know if it's just a Colombian thing, but it's french fries served with hot dogs cut into 2-inch lengths, with each end split like an octodog (though in this case, it's four legs on each end of the 'dog), then deep fried.

The kind of thing she gets to eat only on vacations or birthdays.

@Kenji: But there is a plastic doohickey that turns hot dogs into OCTODOGS!!!!

Yay human ingenuity.

@ratbuddy

Beat me to the punch!

The same thing has happened to me numerous times. Extra ground beef in the fridge, and all I got left is hot dog buns.

Actually, I'd imagine that this happens to a lot of people, since hot dogs come in packs of 8 and buns come in packs of 12, or whatever the actual numbers are. Either way, you always end up with too many buns.

Beef, you never have that problem - just grind as much as you need, or pack the burgers bigger or smaller if you need to.

That's probably why nobody has yet invented a plastic doohickey that converts hot dogs into burger-shaped patties - there's just less demand for them.

What with junk food conversions, eskimos, and Marcus from Gävle, this is one of the more surreal SE talks I've seen in a while...

(p.s. - I did understand your post and how you made the connection, Marcus. I suppose doing something like that in Sweden, would cause a greater uproar than in most of the rest of the world. But in the end, if the chickens are still being slaughtered according to Swedish law, is it that bad that they undergo one extra step to make them accessible to a minority? McDonald's does have a history or changing company practices to cater to local populations - it's not unique to Muslems in Sweden)

Well, you can make fun of my posting... I don't mind. And I understand what you mean. But I wrote that comment because as I understood it, it was a sausage with no ham/pork. Right? I may have got that wrong.

And then I connected that info with something that is on my mind right now and that is that McDonald's here in Sweden is going halal. Chickens slaugthered have to be blessed by Allah. And I think that is wrong. Or at least food for thought...

So meat/beef-sausages worries me! (haha, that sounded kind of weird :) They do! Yes, you can laugh, but they do. No ham/pork and then it's all halal... McDonald's will be the first in line... And I don't like it.

Reality Check: Burger King's Double Cheeseburger

Although I know the burger is fine for $1 (granted, I paid more like $3), I'd rather spend that dollar on...something else. Ha ha. But I have the option in NYC to get, say, 4 fried pork dumplings for a dollar. And how delicious they are. If Burger King were my only option, then...eh...

@jkdrummer: Shall do! At least with whatever fast food chains we have access to.

@Prairie: Thanks! WE MUST DOCUMENT...FAST FOOD.

The 50 Best Burgers in Texas from 'Texas Monthly'

I've tried 4 out of the top 5 burgers on this list and in my opinion its all wrong. The so called "#1" burger in texas shouldn't be in the top ten, maybe even twenty! It's found in an up tight, swanky wine bar ( The Grape) were i felt self-conscious about diving into a hamburger and thought i should be cutting it up into small pieces with my fork and knife. Other than the tightly squeezed tables and the uncomfortable vibe the burger leaves alot to be desired. Especially for $13!!! Now the #3 burger, thats a whole different story! The Alamo Springs Cafe'. This struck out in the middle of nowhere country cafe' is very laid back and even more welcoming! Yes very hard to find being 10-15 miles off the main road and away from town but once you get there you feel right at home from the very beginning. Now to the burger, from the first bite to the last, the flavor and the juiciness of the meat will keep you longing for another bite. The huge beef patty is grilled to perfection. The outside is slightly charred to give it a crispy but not burnt taste while keeping the middle very moist and juicy. The meat sits on a bed of grilled diced green chiles that adds a unique and delicious taste. Topped with cheese, lettuce, grilled onions, and freshly sliced avocados gives a perfect compliment to the even more perfect meat. All on a jalapeno cheese bun that ever gets soggy and has amazing taste and texture in its self. Once you pick this burger up and have a bite you'll never want to put it down. Trust me that is exactly what happened to me. And i didn't until it was gone! Even if you are full after its gone, you will consider ordering another one just to have one more taste!!! Take the drive to Fredericksburg and have this burger! This will be the burger that i will compare all the others to, probably for the rest of my life!!!

A lot of people are calling BS on this list. The Austin choices were really strange and Casino El Camino should definitely be on the list.

I am very surprised Casino El Camino didn't make it considering it's one of the best in the world and they're only looking at one (albeit one large) state.

Flame Gourmet Burgers in Berkeley, California

F-Berkeley. The burger doesn't look very good at all. On that note, I am tired of the fancy burger reviews. The rarest thing of all must be the $7+ burger that's actually worth it. I guess they are necessary on some level, but rather than focus on making a sandwich taste good, they usually just throw a bunch of gourmet ingredients together. Give me a simple burger any day over all of this grass fed, organic, free range whooey. And you "know" where you can shove that arugula. Go away Bobby Flay, enough with the chipotle sauce already.

Actually, I'm starting to think it has more to do with having great buns. If you have great buns you're almost there. I love this site.
