Anthony Bourdain, love him or hate him?

I used to like him more before he became a family man. Seems like since he has a child, he became mellower and not as real as before. These days, seems like he travels more in the US or have shows about techniques and food porn. Nothing wrong with that, still entertaining, but I miss the old Tony.

You might be a foodie if....

You dream of the day you only can work part time and just cook for the rest of your day...

You are considering to quit your desk job for kitchen job...

You love to cook for other people even after a long hard day at work, you still made Julia's Child Poulet Roti.

Your must reads are food related books...

Ditto with travel for food and grocery store trips are like field trips.

What do you eat as an adult?

When I cook at home, I use organic produce, meats, dairy, and spices as much as I can. I don't blow my whole paycheck on grocery. I buy stuff that's on sale and in season.

When I eat out, I go anywhere except fast food places. It doesn't have to be an organic restaurant. I think for me it's about balance and what I feel like during that time.

Foodie gifts gone right/wrong. What did you get for the holidays?

Hand mixer from my sis. I always want a mixer and the standing one is so expensive. SO YAY, hand mixer will do.

Chop & Dash, new peeler, spatulas set, cutting board, a mandolin, Corelle plates & cups. I'm very thankful for all of them because I need them.

Back from the Front: Holiday meal report

I made the Christmas dinner this year for 6 people. I made:

* Honey Maple Glazed Ham
* Beef Tenderloin
* Mashed Potatoes
* Yorkshire pudding
* Green beans Casserole
* Cranberry & Apple Chutney

I was tired afterwards but they all tasted so good. My family are big eaters and my mom is usually picky, but she even liked my Green Beans Casserole. So yay, I'm happy.

Foods from you childhood you don't miss.

Carrot. My mom used to forced me to drink straight carrot juice after I found out that I had bad eye sights. She said, carrots are good for my eyes, but I found out that it's bad for my soul. HATE them.

What do you eat for all-nighters?

When I was in school and work full time, I love munching on cereals with cold milk. Nesquik worked for me as well. I just love milky stuff.

Cooking your own food = rare?

I love eating out as much as other people, but there is always that thirst in me for cooking. I love the creativity process of it. The joy of it when my dish turns out delicious. The pain of it when my dish turns out not so well. I critic myself and I think that is a part of self improvement.

Most of my friends and co workers don't know how to cook. I'm not talking about multi courses meals here, they don't even know how to make omellette or scramble eggs. They don't know how to make pasta dishes. They said that they don't have time, eating out is more fun and easy, or they just don't have the talent. Cooking at home is not a talent show, I mean you are not on food network or anything. You are at your home, in your own kitchen. Who cares if your food doesn't taste like restaurants dishes, it can be better, it can be worse. Either way, in my opinion, that's a part of living.

Tiny kitchen frustration. Ideas?

I feel your pain. I'm in the same situation at the moment. There are no counter space at all for chopping without dropping some of the ingredients. I broke my portable grill because it didn't sit right on the counter space. I'm still trying to figure out a way to make more counter space. One of the idea that I have is to buy a large cutting board than can sit on top of the sink when I need to cut and chop. The problem is, I don't know where to find one.
I'll update you if I ever found one. :)

Cook food that can last you at least few days. I love to make Egg and Ham Fried Rice, Pasta Salad, Pot Roast using slowcooker, Lentil Dip, Chicken Noodle soup. All of these are easy to make and only using few ingredients.
You can freeze them or just refrigerate them if you are going to finish them in few days.

- Saint cupcake for yummy cupcakes.
- Pok Pok for Thai food chiang mai style
- Junior Ambassadors home made ice cream food cart from asparagus ice cream, bacon maple ice cream to smoked salmon and cream cheese.

- Sawasdee Thai, the best Thai food cart in Portland.
- Nicholas Lebanese restaurant, cheap, affordable Lebanese food.
- Screen Door for southern food. Fried chicken and sweet potato waffles!
