Threadless T-Shirt Giveaway: A Piece of Cake
Mainstream cake choices - a tie between carrot cake and german chocolate cake. But as for the true favorite, which comes rarely and with much love is my mom's date cake. soft medjool dates, no icing or frosting, crumbly interior, occasionally with nuts. probably walnuts.
Ethiopian food
Meskerem Ethiopian Restaurant - I have been, it was delicious, pretty affordable (a group of 3 split two entrees, as they are huge).
Swissarmius, a Swiss Army Knife-esque Cutlery Holder
Looks like it would take up too much counter space.

re: Marscopone,need good tiramisu recipe!
a friend of mine and I recently used this recipe on epicurious, with our only change being that we needed a few more ladyfingers.
it was very easy and with a delicious result - if we could do it, so can you - I haven't finished unpacking so we had no whisk, no egg beaters, nothing. all soft peak producing and such happened with the use of a regular fork in a bowl.

What to do with abundance of baby salad greens?
I second the frittata, or in an omelet. Probably not the best weather for it, but they would probably be great in a soup like this Stracciatella.
lemons
For a casual dinner with friends, I tried out this incredibly simple recipe from Yumsugar - orzo with lemon and parsley. My adaptions included adding a few dashes of red pepper flakes when sauteing the garlic and stirring in a can of chickpeas and some grated Parmesan. But really, the lemon and parsley flavors really shine and I am sure you could up the juice and/or zest content.
Wine Reviews Not All That Consistent, Study Says

Store-Bought Chicken Stocks, Reviewed: Which Are the Best?
Appreciate the review - I recently bought the Unsalted Kitchen Basics Stock, and it isn't much different from the regular/salted product, which I suppose is a good thing...has enough natural sodium from the ingredients and no MSG. And at my grocery store, also the same price.
Asian Markets Attract Budget-Minded Chefs
This winter, I went twice to the Atlanta location while at home visiting my mom - the produce is good quality, varied, and cheap. An example - cilantro bunches in my local grocery chain are about 1.50 each, but at Super H Mart they were going 3 for 99 cents. Limes were going 5 for a dollar - compared to my local (Chapel Hill, NC Harris Teeter) which sells one for 59 cents and a bag of 8-10 for 3.99. I thought I would find a deal on spices, which was true but their selection was limited. I bought a jar of ground cloves (about 1/2 cup) for $1.79.
Bacon: Ingredient of the Year
Bacon is everywhere, but I agree that although this is not a new thing, there has been quite a bit of SE devoted to it. I suppose I just notice it more, since I'm Muslim and don't eat bacon. There are a lot of strange bacon related posts that are silly, but then again I suppose there are a lot of silly posts in general right? I've never had bacon, so maybe it is just that good. I've also never had a bacon substitute like turkey bacon - are they good? Should I give it a try?

You will forgive me, I saw the title of this thread and said it out loud like this: mar-SCOP-onee.
Mascarpone.
re: Marscopone,need good tiramisu recipe!
I use the recipe from the people who make the cheese. They formulated the cheese so it goes to figure they have kitchen tested it for just this recipe. BelGioioso Cheese Tiramisu recipe

re: Marscopone,need good tiramisu recipe!
The only Tiramisu recipe I ever use is Ina Garten's. I was able to multiply it enough to feed 100 people. The stuff is amazing.
Here are some pix of the tiramisu - while it was intact and after the guests got to it. I made it for a cater and was sorry I didn't take a picture at the very end of the party when there were about three savoiardi biscuits clinging to the bowl.
