Does Topping Order Matter?

1. Slice of bread
2. Meats (if there are multiple types then I vary them, ie: turkey chicken)
3. cheese
4. Another layer of meats
5. Tomato
6. Lettuce (leaf lettuce that i've ripped into bite sized pieces, but not shredded)
7. Salt and pepper
8. A little olive oil
9. Slice of bread...then I cut it in half (always)

Do you eat in bed?

We eat in bed frequently...much to my displeasure. No don't get me wrong, I'm all for the occasionall cozy-up-to-a-good-book-hot-chocolate-and-cookies kind of bed munching. But I hate that the majority of my meals are infront of the t.v. in bed. I grew up in a pretty strict household where all meals were at the dining room table with the television and radio turned off. It was a treat if we had pizza and watched a movie in the living room (and a production at that...there were never enough seats).

In my dream home the dining room table is always clean and ready to be eaten upon for every meal.

Classic Cookbooks: 'Joy of Cooking' Chicken Divan

We always used a simplified, shortcut version of this. Cream of chicken soup, broccoli, chicken, shredded cheese and bread crumbs on top. We never put toast on the bottom...at least not in my remembering.

Dark chocolate...but really I'll eat all kinds. I especially love white on dark mmmmm!

Essentials: Pork Tacos at Home

Yummy...My mom always wrapped tortillas in aluminum foil and put them in a warm oven for a few minutes before serving. They always turnged out pretty good.

Best TV Chef? Worst TV Chef?

Alton Brown is my go to guy when i need to know the "how" of something. If I need any technical details or want to know the background on something he usually will tell me. Some of his recipes are bland, but I like using them as building blocks.

I love Paula Dean's recipes. I think she has been a little over exposed on FN, but I still love her food. Its that rich, creamy thing that just gets me!

As far as actual chefs go I have a soft spot for Emeril. Even though most of his recipes are too involved or expensive for me I enjoy watching him. He's the guy that got me watching FN in the first place.

Defrosting meat

Cool runing water is what you're supposed to do for thawing pretty much anything if you want to maintain sanitary conditions in the food. (I can cite my sanitation textbook, but I doubt you all need that). As long as you keep the water running on a low level so it isn't slamming into your foods, they should hold up pretty well.

When good people do "bad" things in your kitchen…

If you place something in the freezer or the fridge because they are leftovers either eat them or throw them out when they start turning funny colors (preferably before this point). I do not enjoy cleaning the fridge and finding green beef that was never cooked and has been stuffed back there for 5 months...especially when I didn't put it there!

For goodness sakes, close the damn pantry door. Don't be offended when I follow you around closing it because you can't figure it out.

And boyfriend, I love when you cook; but could you maybe think about something besides salt for 5 seconds. I do not need to feel like I am ingesting a salt lick, when in reality I'm holding a chicken wrap.

I am so with the comfort food people. A nice bowl of perfectly whipped mashed potatoes with polish butter and a touch of chives under the covers
in front of a great show. Nice night!

This thread feels like the LSAT.

Does Topping Order Matter?

My dad had a deli for almost 40 years, and sold thousands of hero sandwiches. He was convinced that the order was the key to the taste. If he wanted to amplify a flavor he'd put it nearer the tongue. That is to say nearer the lower half of the hero.

tomatoes cant touch the bread, hate the feeling of bread + tomato on my teeth... must have a layer of lettuce, then cheese, then tomato, then meat or whatever else is on the sandwhich.

Do you eat in bed?

I would never eat in bed unless I'm sick and can't get out of bed and my mom is insisting I eat a piece of toast or something. But that's about it!

Haha, not gonna lie, you sound a bit obsessive compulsive. BUT I do have to say, I could see where it would make a difference. It's whatever you want to hit your mouth first! I've never been particular though and still seem to enjoy my sandwiches.

agree on various of your comments...

tomato/lettuce should be on TOP, never on the bottom of the main ingredient in the sandwich

I like my mayo to touch the veggies, rather than the cheese

mustard should touch the cheese or "veggie meat" not the lettuce/tomato

Oh dear... how complicated people we are!!!!

I really can't stand it when a deli will put the lettuce and tomato on the bottom of the sandwich, under the meat and cheese. The purpose of the lettuce and tomato should be to help keep it from being too dry so you bite into the bread and then get lettuce, tomato (maybe cheese before that) and then the meat.

And to the person who eats a meatloaf sandwich w/ mayo. I have two words for you: Paula Dean. Blech!

Do you eat in bed?

All the time. Most nights we have full dinners from a tray in our bedroom, which is like our fortress -- we work from bed, eat in bed, play in bed, and sometimes even sleep. Yes, we do get up occasionally. But it's a comfortable place, what can I say?
