My breakfast at Jackson Hole.

Yuck.

Way too much meat. A completely pointless endeavour and lifeless outing. This gets my worst rating ever: 7 thumbs up.

Sandwich Alert: Salumeria Biellese

So after Carrie was violently bitching about the lack of hoagie availability here in NY, Ed sent us down to Salumeria Biellese on 8th Avenue. The address is {378 8th Avenue, New York NY 10001}

Salumeria is hard-core old school. They make their own sausages and coldcuts in a tight corner store.

Mark, the owner, whipped up an amazing Sopressata, Mozzarella and Pepper sandwich that was out of this world served on a perfect Semolina roll about a 2 feet long.

Diane, of course, had to be different and ordered a Mozzarella with marinated sundried tomatoes.

Jed added some extra vinegar and peppers to his. Apparently, he knows better than Mark.

RUN, DO NOT WALK to the Salumeria and tell Mark that Ed and Serious Eats sent you!

The Counter

My pal John was visiting California for a few days, so we went up to The Counter in Santa Monica. This is one of the only burger places in LA that will actually cook a RARE burger. I know, I was shocked, too. I had the 1/3lb Beef Burger with Cheddar, Avocado, Mushrooms, and Spicy Sour Crea on a Honey Wheat Bun.

Awesome.

The place is crowded and packed tight, the service is brisk, and the order-by-clip-board process seems to make things easy.

Oh, and the onion rings are great, too.

So, in conclusion: You should go there. Now.

Best Ice Cream in America's Best Ice Cream Town?

You are all a bunch of snobs. The Banana Creme Frappucino at Starbucks is totally tops. I'm not sure if they have Starbucks where you live (they only have a few locations here at 9th an Broadway - 3 actually) but I do recommend that you try it out.

8 thumbs up.

Nice Philadelphia Girl Seeks Decent Hoagie In NYC

Damn right!

There are a few good places for good hoagies in NYC. Mostly in Little Italy. There's a place on the corner -- I forget where, but I know how to get there.

Hoagie road trip?

Craft, New York

I've only been to the Craft in Las Vegas at the MGM. It's not bad, but it seems like the wait staff are nicer in Vegas... but I've already broken the rules: What happens in Vegas...

Of course Steve's is a pale shadow--it was sold many years ago, and Steve Herrell moved his operation to Northampton, MA, where he's been beloved for many years. Moving back in on Boston is only right.

Come to the burbs, children. We have Kimballs, and Bedford Farms, Sullivans and Dairy Joy! You can work your way from one to the next on a tour that will make your eyes and your belly bulge out. But I have to say, Christina's rice pudding ice cream is one of my all time favorites. Once I can find a place to park my car.

How To Cook Pig Tails

My dad used to put pig's tails in the sauce on Sunday....he & I were the only ones who would eat them. Haven't had them in years, but I do remember they were good!

In Los Angeles (actually Alhambra) I vote for Fosselman's Ice Cream.

Local, family owned and award winning, they make not too sweet ice cream in amazing flavors. They do the classic - my dad says they have the best rum raisin he's ever had. And they do seasonal, and local. They have amazing macapuno ice cream, summer plum sorbet if you can catch it and their fresh peach sings. With all that my husband still starts with a scoop of their vanilla - it's just that good.
