Affordable, non-adventurous restaurant in Manhattan

Mogador on St. Mark's bet 1st Avenue and Avenue A is pretty good and affordable.

Yeah, Village Mingala used to be where Porsena is now. Sad it closed.

How Long Would You Stand In Line for Coffee?

Just make your own. Invest a bit on machinery and you will never have to make a line for good coffee again, plus you will save so much money too. No more guys wearing fedoras at Stumptown serving you coffee.

Best Commercial Espresso Machines

Yeah, I've been eyeing the E61's, they're beautiful.

The 6 Best Things We Ate at Village Voice's Choice Eats 2010

Was it only me, or does anyone else thinks this event was a total rip off?

The overall quality of the food was pretty bad. Lasagna at Max, cold....Kuma Inn, closed by 6:30, Gazpacho at Despaña, too salty and unedible. I liked most of the Asian Restaurants, but I felt like a fool paying $44 for what is basically an app at a Sunset Park Chinese. Oh well.

Yeah, the tablecloth was great! Bring it back!

Best coconut cake in NYC?

JFYI, the young coconut pie at Purple Yam is not exactly what you are looking for (layered cake), but you should try it anyway, it's totally amazing.

Best coconut cake in NYC?

The young coconut pie at Purple Yam. One of the best things I've eaten this year.....It comes with coconut ice cream too!

Lunch for One: Great NY Noodletown

My point is that locals tend to favor other dishes on the menu...The chow fun was good, but I'm curious to try some of the other lighter stuff they serve at NY Noodletown.

Lunch for One: Great NY Noodletown

Yes, I've been seeing it on a lot of tables, but usually eaten by white people. The Chinese locals are usually having soups or duck.

What's Your Favorite Coffee In New York?

Hmmm, I'm surprised to see so many people voting for Gimme. Yesterday I had an espresso there and it was a muddy mess.

I second Taralluci E Vino, East Village location.

Dec. 5-7 Loner Vacation

Switch Lombardi for Motorino or any of the other recommended pizzerias on this site. Pizza at Lombardi's is just ok and it's a crazy scene on the weekends. Packed with groups of tourists etc. I would also recommend eating at any of the Momofukus on Saturday night.

Off the Beaten Path: Patacon Pisao's Carne Mechada Patacón

I never had this growing up in Caracas, although I always heard that people in Maracaibo ate gigantic plantain discs. Will have to go to Elmhurst to try it out!

The turkey sandwich with gravy on a baguette the day after Thanksgiving.....can't wait!

What's A 'Real' Brooklyn Restaurant?

Well, there's enough room for both. I'm an immigrant living in one of those yuppie-scum neighborhoods and I visit both the quirky Vietnamese sandwich counters and Marlow & Sons.....there's an occasion for everything. I'm glad that both can coexist side by side.

El Cocotero: A Venezuelan Neighborhood Restaurant That Fills A Need

The Hallaca plate sounds crazy because it is eaten in Venezuela only in Xmas. I guess it's a one time indulgence. As a Venezuelan, I would feel totally weird eating hallacas even in November. It's like having a Thanksgiving meal in July.

The Nasty Bits: Stomach-Stuffed Arepas

I believe Masarepa is for making Colombian arepas, a totally different beast more akin to the Mozzarepas you see in NY Street Fairs.

Prime Meats: The Frankies Get Serious About Breakfast

I agree with chips. I checked out like a month ago and liked the Mushroom and Wurst combo....but at $13 it was pretty small. I felt a bit ripped off.
