Cook the Book: 'Screen Doors and Sweet Tea'

Iced jasmine tea with a sprig of mint floating on top. Or better yet, I used to get fresh, moist sassafras root from some old hippie at the farmers market in college, take it home & brew the best iced tea on earth. I've never been able to duplicate it & I've missed it for 15 years.

Cook the Book: 'Roast Chicken and Other Stories'

I used to make this strange honey ginger chicken strir fry in high school that my dad loved. Lotsa honey & dried ginger WTF?! In retrospect it sounds awful, but he loved it. He once threatened to ground me if I didn't skedaddle to the store & get the ingredients to make it for dinner one night. Good times...

It needs sliced fresh tomato, Hellman's mayo (there is no substitute), fresh cracked black pepper. All of this piled on ciabbata.

I like it crispy or greasy. I love it each and every way it can be prepared.

Cook the Book: 'The Bacon Cookbook'

Peanut butter & bacon sandwich. Toast up some plain old square white bread. A layer of crunchy, not smooth, PB (Jif is the preferred brand) and a layer or two of hot, fatty, crispy bacon. Mmmm..mmmm...mmmm!

Yikes! I have everything except the digital therm & the hand blender.
For what its worth, the kuhn rikon peeler rawks and is so dearly cheap. Every cook, foodie, gourmand, gastronomer or whatevah ya call yourself should get one in their stocking this year. If you already have one then, by god, you deserve a new one in a spanky new color!

Serious Eats Gift Guide: Apparel

I probably have the most jacked up feet known to man because the Dansko clogs kill my feet. I just got finished with my second pair of clogs from them (gave them a second try even though I dumped my first pair after 1 week of wearing them 2 years ago). They were comfy for about a week, but by the 3rd week of stomping around on kitchen tile for 9 hours a day I was back to taking tylenol each night to dull the screeching foot pain. I broke down & bought a new pair of Keen's (they're against our dress code so I gotta hide em) cause they are the ONLY shoes I've ever worn in the kitchen that don't leave me crying at night. They have some leather, non-skid sole versions that look pretty cool. Anyway I just had to give Keen there due since you never hear about people wearing them behind the line.

Can't I have both!? If I have to choose, I choose crispy (& I'll cheat with pliant on the side hehe)

Ribeye is still my favorite! It reminds me of the rare & exotic visits to Pondegrossa, Shizzler and the like when I was a kid on vacation with my parents.

Definitely the eggs norwegian at Balthazar so sooooo yummy. They make a fairly delish bloody mary as well.

Ohhhh baconbaconbacon! I love my bacon when it turns that crispy, melt-in-the mouth reddish brown with that beautiful fringe of translucent fat. I may in fact *require* the BOTM club, but I'm not sure.

Did Your Microwave Nuke the Bacteria in Your Frozen Dinner? It Depends

That is crazy! I never thought the microwave was actually, really & for true, cooking my frozen dinner. Now I have to rethink my whole laziest-person-in-the-universe all Lean Cuisine weight loss plan. Although, week long salmonella induced explosive diarrhea could leave me Victoria Beckham thin. Hmmmm...

Bratz Popsicle: 'With Gumball Eyes'

I got one of these from the ice cream truck at the street fair in my neighborhood this summer. They taste not so good but it was briefly entertaining to me & my companion to have a pretend conversation with the Ho-in-training-on-a-stick as I slowly consumed her head & popped out the gumball eyeballs. I'm not a sadist, I swear! It was all done in the name of comedy & social justice.

What are your leftover habits?

I've trained myself to strictly portion food when I cook so I have little or no leftovers to store & inevitably throw away later. I do however eat all types of leftover take away & home cooked food straight from the fridge. My BF says this is my super power (eating inappropriately temped food). I always get a "Bomp bomp-bomp bommp! It's Suuupergirl!" when I pull the cold mash potatoes with gelatinous gravy & cold sliced london broil slathered with Fruity HP out for breakfast. Dear god, that last sentence actually made my stomache growl....

Bad Luck Fortune Cookies

My boyfriend & I have been getting these cheeky fortunes since the beginning of the summer! Our local high-end Chinese restaurant & the Panda Express in the mall food court have both been handing these out. My boyfriend got the "It's over your head now..." one the first time it happened and we thought it was some crazy disgruntled fortune cookie maker engaging in some culture jamming. They are so much better than the crap fortunes we've all gotten used to receiving.

These are great suggestions! I recently got a KitchenAid mixer for a friend's wedding and they love it! Since it's summer, if you're looking for some new grilling gear, check out: http://www.seriouseats.com/2009/06/elizabeth-karmels-grilling-tips.html

@Tactful, I've never had problems with the pasta attachments, either.

And I've got it all except the pepper mill (but I have others that I like, each filled with a different pepper), the fish spatula (looking for one I like -- that one looks good, though), and the book. I've got lotsa books. Wonder if I need that one in particular. Sigh. Time to look at the wishlist again before I email it to santa.

I have recently been drinking watermelon slushies!
They taste great and they're low-cal. Just put crushed ice and watermelon cubes in a blender for about 5 seconds and you have a great summertime drink!

My fave summer drink is a big pitcher of Sangria, with fresh peach slices and other summer fruits floating in it...its like a snack and an alcoholic bevvie and a thirst quencher, all in one! (And I would share the pitcher, in case anyone was wondering...)
