Guy Fieri Eats The Hunch And I Can't Stop Thinking of Colin Farrell
I love the show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives....don't get me wrong. I think Guy Fieri is a complete douchebag though. Don't be afraid to not like this person or other "food celebrities" on the Foodnetwork that have weak culinary backgrounds and garbage palates.....have you seen this guy cook or the menus at his resturants? Garbage...like Ruby Tuesdays, Olive Garden, and TGI Fridays all rolled into one. My worst nightmare.
Guy and that fat idiot from Man vs. Food Adam Richman should be greased up, stuffed into a barrel together, and sent over the Niagra Falls never to be seen on TV again.
At Its Simplest, Houston's Burger Fails to Excel
Houston's burger is very good, nice and buttery. Not the best burger in the city but they should be given full credit for grinding their own meat (which the review sites), cooking to order, and using an interesting fresh baked roll. A bit pricey but still relatively good value given the ingredients.
If you are eating at Houstons order the ribs and coleslaw. Best two items on the menu (exlcuding spinach artichoke dip which is outstanding).

Dear AHT: The Nino Burger from Morse Gyros in Chicago
Have had a similar burger in North Suburbs of Chicago at a place called the Chuckwagon. Similar ingredients except they call it the Nikki Special - combo of beef, gyro, american cheese, grilled onions and tzatziki on mine....oh my!

@Debbie Downer....a medium rare cheese burger is one of the simple pleasures in life. Save your safety talk for another website and day.
I would consider sending an overdone piece of meat back....but by the time it arrives I am way to hungry to part with it and would just eat it no matter what.
Roger Ebert on His Love for Steak 'n Shake
Steak and Shake is a quality establisment. Restuarants are always clean and it feels much more of a sit down vs. fast food. Regular burgers are very but the melts are where its at. You get the texture of the burger done on the grill almost with crispy salty edges between toasted grilled bread and melted cheese. It all comes together beautifully. If you are in the Midwest its definitely worth stopping. Milkshakes are also very good and the fries are thin and matchstick like.
Steak and Shake and Culvers are likely the best regional fast food restuarants in the Midwest.

@roboppy - Lets see what Nick says. Make sure he gets a double.
First Impression of Petey's Burger in Queens
I think it only fair that the person who first reviewed Peteys go back, try it again, and then write up a second review. Reposting the old review doesn't due much justice, especially since the review was written when Peteys first opened up and probably wasn't cranking out its potential.
I'd say this is one of the better burgers in the NYC area (if you like West Coast style burgers). I'd put it up there with BLT Burger and Shake Shack which I'd also classify as West Coast given the buns and sauces. In fact from what I understand Peteys gets their meat from the same supplier of Shake Shack. Everytime I have been there burgers and fries have been super fresh. I go with a double which at times can be too juicy and leads to bun erosion. Fries are hand cut from fresh potatoes. If you can recognize a handcut fry from a fresh potato you'd appreciate it.
I bet if you blindfolded the reviewer and put a Shake Shack and Peteys burger in front of them they wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
And who goes to a burger place and orders vegetarian???
She Said/He Said: Unremarkable Burgers at Wollensky's Grill
Thorough review. I do like this burger. I agree with the under seasoned comment but it should be noted, like the steaks at Wollensky, the meat is the focus and since it comes from prime meat scraps it would be a crime to over season this burger before presenting it to the diner. Its up to the diner to augment the level of seasoning on the prime burger.
This is a very good burger (B+) in my book but does lack something to take it to the next level. I have in the past ordered a side of creamed spinach (which is nice and salty) and slathered the burger with it. Does take care of the salt issue and adds another layer of decadence atop a more than half pound patty of prime meat.
Tonight on 'Man v. Food,' the Eagle's Deli Burger Challenge in Boston
Show, concept, and food/challenges are great. Host is very lame...painful at times to watch him flounder with his array of really bad jokes. Professional eater with a better personality and commentary would of been the ideal host....couldn't of been that hard to find as the current host has set the bar very low.

Dear AHT: The Nino Burger from Morse Gyros in Chicago
@dombrooks: Love the Chuckwagon, although I never tried the Nikki Special for some strange reason! My dad used to work there when he went to New Trier in the 70s. I miss it, and Chicago food in general...
First Impression of Petey's Burger in Queens
There is a place called Sanford's on 30th street and Broadway that has awesome burgers($5.95 I believe). The place is more restaurant style, but their British Burger on an oversize english muffin is huge, juicy and flavorful. I highly recommend it.
Dear AHT: The Nino Burger from Morse Gyros in Chicago
At University, my college had a burger van that would park outside the college bar at night. They'd do a 'full monty', which was basically everything on a bun: two burgers, four slices of cheese, a fried egg, bacon and kebab meat, all served with chips and a side of gravy. Only edible when drunk. As were so-called 'dirty chips', which were a tray of chips covered in kebab meat, cheese and gravy.
Bacon-Mushroom Burger
I'd saute the mushrooms first since they're probably full of mositure. So how did this recipe turn out?

@NYC Food Guy The French dip sandwich is also worth trying. I thought it was basil in the slaw but I could be wrong. I recommend the Black Label plain on a bun and that would be my choice right now for burger to eat, but I could happily eat Shake Shack or even Joe Jr and be satisfied. Let's eat a burger in early March.

i hate tgifridays and the lots just as much as most people that frequent serious eats. and guy fieri is eh. but hillbilly hot dogs is fabulous. and a local whole in the wall...not some monster chain restaurant. it, along with the other dozen or so hot dog restaurants in the greater huntington, wv area are gems and are one of the few reasons i go to my hometown at all.

Nick,
You are spot on in regrad to the ribs. Absolutely agree about them being the #1 non-smoked ribs. Coleslaw is pretty solid too. I believe there's a little mint in it? Never had prime rib, can't pry myself away from burger and ribs. The traditional salad is actually really good to, crumbled egg and bacon, cheesy bread and the house vinaigrette.
I'm going to need to get out to 67 Burger one of these days and over to City Burger to check out the Black Label. I saw you got it plain on a bun, is that the best way to do it?
Here's the ultimate question then, because I understand the difficulty of naming a "best." If you could only eat ONE more burger in NYC, where would it be?
Also, had Joe Jr. today, plain cheeseburger medium rare. Very solid. Nice outer char, very tender, juicy, perfectly cooked medium rare interior. Tasty for a griddled diner burger. Too bad they're not open 24 hours like most other diners. Great $7.50 deluxe (with fries) price tag, as well.
What's on your burger to do list? You game for a meet up?
Good to hear back from you.
Overcooked Burger Send-Back Success at Bacchus in Brooklyn
I don't know if I'd send a hamburger back--at that point, I don't trust the cook. I'd just tell the waiter/tress and have her take it off the check. For example--I ordered the four miniburgers at Chili's that were supposed to be topped with apple smoked bacon, cheese and onions. Sounds good--everyone's doing "sliders" these days. What I ended up with was a DRIED out hamburger patty that was cut into four pieces with a little cheese on one of them. No bacon, no onions--what the he11? When I brought it to the waitress' attention, she didn't seem all that surprised--I guess they were out of mini-burger and were making do. No, I don't want to order something else--it will only be the same quality as the crap the cook already sent out. If the restaurant, whether it's a chain or not, LOSES money because they don't get a chance to "try again", they will make sure the food goes out right the first time! Most of the time, if you send something back what you get isn't all that much better, but you eat it anyway, pay for it anyway just to get out of the restaurant.

@ Damon Looks like I will be there in March!
@ NYC Foodguy I am a purist, so when it comes to choosing a plain bun or one that needs cabbage and bbq sauce to balance it I will choose the plain bun. But I agree that Houston's is a really good restaurant - the dip is good, the knife and fork ribs are my favorite non smoked ribs (they are grilled), the coleslaw rules and the $28 prime rib, while not being either prime beef nor dry aged, is excellent, especially for the price.
I have not tried the Brooklyn Diner burger yet but Adam sure liked it. I will never make the claim that I know the "Best" burger in NYC but if I had to choose one it would be the Black Label Blend at City Burger. I could just as easily choose Shake Shack, PJ Clarkes or JG Melon. My Brooklyn burger knowledge is not that deep as I live in Manhattan but of the handful that I have reviewed - Diner, 67 Burger, Junior's, I would probably choose 67 Burger.
@Chuckmeister I have not tried it but Adam reviewed it last August:

@ Robyn
Yay! Glad you tried it and it worked out for you. Last night I received a cheeseburger medium well I had ordered medium rare--I really did not enjoy it and gave the restaurant low marks. Perhaps I'll go there one more time and see if it's any better when cooked correctly.

The French always spit in returned food. It is tradition.
Overcooked Burger Send-Back Success at Bacchus in Brooklyn
@drmoze, that is the main reason I do not send my burgers back.
My question to everyone is: which establishment would you think would spit on your burger? a chain restaurant, a diner/restaurant , a fancy pants place?

I bet the 2nd burger was even juicier because of the secret saliva that the cook added to the re-order.

Hey simon, maybe you should learn how to spell and read.
As the poster said : advise. To advise means to counsel, recommend or inform. It does not mean to tell someone what to do.
They obviously feel strongly about eating undercooked meat but instead of respecting their opinion you call it 'their problem'.
I do apologize for not falling in lockstep. Guten Tag.
Overcooked Burger Send-Back Success at Bacchus in Brooklyn
after working in a kitchen, I really don't like sending food back if I don't absolutely have to.
Overcooked Burger Send-Back Success at Bacchus in Brooklyn
Yay! I'm so proud I asked the question to spur this in your mind then. I had the same thing happen to me last week. The burger was a hockey puck the first try but the second time it was a fantastic burger.
Overcooked Burger Send-Back Success at Bacchus in Brooklyn
I don't understand the point of eating a piece of meat if it's cooked to more than medium. Medium for burgers, med rare for steaks.
@thomassweet, I do believe the point being made here is that if that poster wants to warn people against eating rare meat, she's not going to have luck changing anyone's minds here. We're all burger snobs (for lack of a better word) and I don't think anyone with a burger snob palate would say they truly enjoy a well done patty.
Overcooked Burger Send-Back Success at Bacchus in Brooklyn
Absolutely not. If you like well done, that's your problem and you are free to say so. But telling OTHER people not to eat their burgers at less than well done on this site will not get you very far. Learn to read please.

'And yes, you picked the wrong site to admonish people for eating burgers at less than well done temperatuer.'
So this is a site where you should only comment if your sure that it will be agreed on by everyone? That will surely make for a good dialogue.

On the flip side what gets me even some mad is when you have the night when you just want to order in tonight. You call your "favorite" burger place put you order in and it arrives rare like hardly even cooked becuase they are so busy.... You pick up the phone to call and you get a busy signal... You just sit there and your pissed...
Overcooked Burger Send-Back Success at Bacchus in Brooklyn
@ drakmyth - the risk you describe is almost always limited to pre-processed burger patties, the kind you buy frozen in puck shapes from the super market, made in factories. I wouldn't eat those at all. Burgers from semi decent restaurants are ground in house from cuts of meat that have no contact with feces or stomachs. The risk is infinitesimal if you are eating quality foods. And yes, you picked the wrong site to admonish people for eating burgers at less than well done temperatuer. Personally, I always order my burgers rare, black and blue at the places where I know they are using the best of the best. Have you ever heard of steak tartare, or Yuk Hwe?
