De Lorenzo's Tomato Pies, Redux

I grew up eating at both Hudson St & Hamilton Ave locations. I attribute eating this pie every Friday night with my parents for about 15+ years the main reason why I love pizza so much. I moved away from the area 5 years ago and have been on a quest to find a suitable replacement in my new area ( Philadelphia ) ever since. There are a few noteworthy pizzas but nothing comes close to De Lorenzo's, I still drive back on a monthly basis to get my fix. I made my way back to NJ this past weekend to try the pies at the new location. As the article said, the pies have remained unchanged despite the new digs. Top notch, one of the best pies in the country hands down...

Grimaldi's in Dallas–Fort Worth Area

I liked Bianco's, but I don't think the 5 people I dragged there liked waiting that long for pizza.

I've tried the pizza at the Scottsdale location a few times. Its damn good for being a chain pizzeria. Last time I was visiting the area, I went to Patsy Grimaldis and Pizzeria Bianco. Everyone I was with thought the pies at Grimaldi's were better than Pizzeria Bianco's.

Pizzeria Bianco: Long Wait, High Expectations

We tried to make a reservation as we had a party of six but we were told they were not taking any reservations until January.

Gotta try, soon, the new DeLorenzo's. Lines at both of the Trenton locations can be that long so no biggee. Note to Adam: Have you heard of Nomad Pizza out of Hopewell? www.nomadpizzaco.com This guy has outfitted an old REO Speedwagon with a wood-fired oven. Drive by pizza at it's best. I've got them setup to cater a party in May -- if you wanna come try the pie, let me know. Everything I've heard so far is good.

It's a "chain" in the sense that it has more than one location (though I have to point out that the NYC-area locations are separate from the western locations). And I can't speak for the western locations, but you really can't place this small chain in the same "chain" league as the Hut or Domino's. These places are still churning out better pizza than the majors.

I had eaten at the Grimaldi's in Henderson, NV this past December. It was above average. But after reading the menu that listed all of the Grimaldi's locations in the US, it made me realize Grimaldi's is more of a chain or franchise restaurant.

I've been to Grimaldi's in Dallas twice after a trip to Brooklyn in January. The Texas location seems to have the same kitchen/oven set up and the pizza results were pretty similar. CoalVines Southlake is good, but not quite as good.

Neither is good as Bianco's!

I had Bianco while in Phoenix also. I don't see how anyone could have liked Grimaldi's better. To each his own, I guess.

Pizzeria Bianco: Long Wait, High Expectations

I have never been to Pizzeria Bianco, in fact despite living in Phoenix for FIVE years I have never heard of it! Am I nuts? apparently- people visiting me later this month begged me to take them there. Is it worth the immensly long wait- and WHAT makes it so great?! Any insights?

Btw: Has anyone eaten at Slices in Tempe. It is far from gourmet but it is certianly the best drunk food pizza I have ever had next to Casa di Amici's in Morgantown, WV! (GO MOUNTAINEERS!)

Pizzeria Bianco: Long Wait, High Expectations

I went in July and was the first in line at 3pm, making sure I made the first group at their 5pm opening.

The week before Thanksgiving & week of, are the busiest for our shop. Saturday night is the busiest night of the week period.....simply poor timing. Go again mid week & not around a major holiday (they close twice a year for a couple of weeks at a time) & then you can compare to Di Fara...but yeah 5 hours is simply lunacy. It was 2+ hours this last week at our shop...the guilt I felt is maddening....(even though there is nothing we can do about it)...I can't imagine the guilt Chris & company may feel.
