Food Terms that should be banned from the media

@smsingram... I might be, sorry. I guess I simply loathe "yummy" no matter who says it. My apologies.

Yummy should be banned for anyone over 6. It's unforgivable when men say it. I hate the "off" thing, too, like "bake off the pie crust in the oven" or "sear off the short ribs." Bake and sear, people. That's all you need. I despise "heaven on a plate" or that whole heaven on anything that those Food Network people say on "Best Thing I Ever Ate." Rachael Ray has no right adding any lexicon to the language. It's the one thing I can't forgive Oprah for... unleashing her on a wider public. Wouldn't have been so bad if she was just on FN where she is easily ignored.

Puerto Rican pork or bacon with brown sugar and cayenne. Really hard to decide.

Even pigs love bacon. There's nothing bad about bacon. Had two slices this morning.

Mario Unclogged: Leo Maya's Chicken with Green Sauce

My version: I shopped for the ingredients but got jalapenos instead of serranos just because I didn't bring the list in with me. I sauteed onion and garlic in a small bit of olive oil, then added the tomatillos, cilantro, jalapeno and a Thai chili just because I had one handy. I forgot the lime at that point. After it sauteed a while, I whizzed it all together in the food processor, then returned it to the pan and added five small Mahi Mahi fillets. I then thought the fish would be better sort of chopped up because the sauce was so thin so I made kind of a fish stew/soup out of it. When I served it, I added a touch of cotija cheese and chopped scallions. It was delicious.

Ditto on the misuse of "hoi polloi." Somebody needs an editor.

Magazine Recipe Review: Tomato Bread Salad with Olives and Mint

I had all the ingredients on hand last night and made this. It was really good though it suffered just a bit from me adding salt... the olives were salty enough and the lemon juice adds a real sharp bite. Anyway, I 'll make it again. I used a few slices of a standard French bread loaf and we had some homegrown tomatoes and mint along with the lemons from our own tree.
