Our 10 Favorite Pumpkin Desserts in NYC

You missed a fantastic entry that I recently discovered: the ginger pumpkin bread/cake at Two Red Hens. With lots of lovely pumpkin seeds on top. Scrumptious.

We Try the Whole Menu at Pret a Manger

I adored Pret when it was shiny and new in NYC a bunch of years ago, and was simply addicted to their yogurt/strawberry-rhubarb compote pots (I often bought two for breakfast, and mourned when they discontinued it). They had a number of wonderful salads and dressings that disappeared, and the newer choices in general are not as good/interesting. I still like the chicken/gorgonzola/apple/walnut salad, but the sub-par dressings make the experience less wonderful. Their brownies are great, but I miss Eli's ginger cake. Their sandwiches never thrilled me. Did love their cafe mocha...

Street Food: The Treats Truck

Love her, love her goodies. I'm crazy about the espresso brownies, but she doesn't carry them every day in every location...so when I think I'm going to be near her on a particular day I can email/call and she'll save me some (they freeze well, I've found). Also faves are the lemon cookies, raspberry brownies and the brown sugar "brownies" (is that the butterscotch? they remind me of penuche fudge in brownie form - totally decadent). I like her Rice Krispy treats - good vanilla/marshmallow flavor.

Slice Poll: Do You Blot the Grease from Your Pizza?

Grease is good...sometimes. I voted yes, because there was no option for "it depends". I will sometimes quickly mop up a deep pool of grease that, to me, gets in the way of savoring the flavor of other ingredients. However, on a really good pie, when you can watch a master make it and then watch him carefully snip/drop fresh basil on top before it is served (I love you, Mr. Di Fara...) -- never.

L.A. Burdick: Manhattan Gets a Superior Chocolate Shop

OMG - I will be spending a lot of time in that neighborhood in the very near future, and I know where I will be stopping by frequently. Help!!!

Anyone enjoy eating at Sam's Club or Costco snack bar?

We always stop at Costco's cafe on the way out. My boyfriend loves the hotdogs and raspberry iced tea, I love the berry yogurt sundaes and the chicken Caesar salad. And the churros for dessert, of course. The plain cheese pizza also, on rare occasion...Sam's Club in the burbs north of NYC has the worst cafe I've ever seen. Not one thing worth eating. And we both love the IKEA Swedish meatballs so much that we bought the frozen variety and the fixin's for an at-home treat!

Serious Eats Finds New York's Best Bagel

I guess none of the commenters live on the UES (I know, no longer chic...), because no one mentioned Tals. I live almost next door to one, and my open windows overlook and capture the almost constant lovely smells of fresh bagels baking in this neighborhood place (the onion must be baking right now - making me salivate). There are a couple of others around - mine is 86th bet 2nd and 1st, another is Lex and about 83d, another First and 54th. I live close to the H&H east side branch, and I used to love them...but too often these days their bagels are soft, pale and puffy - no bite to the crust and not dense enough. I've been to Absolute several times, and they are indeed delicious.
