I like eating.

  • Website
  • Location: Montreal
  • Favorite foods: Cheese, butter, any kind of noodle. Fried onions, braised meats. Fresh tomatoes from the garden.
  • Last bite on earth: Terrine de foie de poulet on a crisp baguette crouton.

Serious Beer: The Best Pumpkin Ales

I can't help but notice the absence of the best pumpkin beer ever, The Great Pumpkin Ale by Montreal's own St Ambroise brewery. It's made with pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves but it's not too sweet like some pumpkin beers.

Who's with me on this one?

What's Your Favorite Frozen Food?

My boyfriend is allergic to broccoli, so frozen broccoli is ALWAYS in my freezer. Otherwise, a Dr Oetker's pizza is usually on our list, and frozen peas/corn/berries.

honey white bread

I wish the website link worked! I want the recipe! Looks gorgeous.

booo not available in Canada. :(
time for YouTube!

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 77: Good Snacks Come In Small Packages

I just want to say, Ed, that your hard work and perseverance with this diet has really inspired me - I've been following your "just a taste" lead and enjoying many of the same foods but in more reasonable quantities with great results. I'm almost down 20 pounds, and it's partly thanks to your great example. Thank you!

'What We Eat When We Eat Alone'

All the things my boyfriend hates - shrimp, cheese, polenta, broccoli, etc.

Sounds like a good meal right there! :)

Magic 2-hour Pizza Crust

I do make a longer, 24 hours + pizza dough, and it is great. But the vigorous kneading this 2 hour dough gets partially makes up for its short ferment time. The flavours are not as complex, maybe, but the texture is just as nice, and WAY nicer than any other dough that can be made in that time frame.

This Weekend in 'New York Times' Food News

is it just me, or does the hot dog link go to the cocktail article?

New Tazo Tea Lattes at Starbucks: Thanks, But No Thanks

The London Fog drink isn't new - it's been an "underground" Starbucks drink for a few years now. I guess they're just adding it to the menu officially. I've been a fan for a long time, but I always make sure to ask for half the syrup (which is what I do for any flavoured drink they serve - they're all way too sweet).

Cook the Book: Martha Stewart's Hors d'Oeuvres Handbook

i recently made cornish game hen (my first time!) with roasted winter veg and garlic mashed potatoes for my partner, sister, her partner, and another couple - it felt like a real family dinner, and made the whole house seem warm and cozy. i got to make awesome stock with the bones of the birds, too! yum!

Dinner Tonight: Dumpling Noodle Soup

@ Hunnyoil -
there is a canned wonton soup... at least in Canada, a company called Wong Wing makes one. But I have to say, it's not very good. The wontons are soggy and oversaturated with broth. The flavour is ok, but I nearly always tweak it when ever I am desperate enough to "make" a can.

This one sounds great and just what I was feeling like eating tonight! :)

Bacon Cinnamon Rolls

I ended up making these this weekend - they turned out great and were very popular! Pics at my flickr.

next time, though, I think I'd pre-cook the bacon a little - it wasn't quite crispy enough for my liking.

Q & A: Top Chef's Lisa Fernandes

ack! please stop with the spoilers!!! some of us don't have cable and have to wait a day or two to watch the show!!!

Best Hangover Food?

no one can beat Quebec for a hangover cure.... POUTINE!!!

(if you don't know what this is, it's a huge pile of thick-cut, greasy french fries, smothered in delicious gravy and topped with melty cheese curds. mmmmm)

Eating Out In Vancouver, BC

my very favourite restaurants to eat in in vancouver are La Buca (4025 MacDonald Street) and Parkside (1906 Haro Street in the west end) -- both by the same fantastic chef. They're both small places with an emphasis on locally grown foods etc. You can check out their menus online by googling their names + vancouver. I can't recommend them highly enough!!

What to Eat at the Jean-Talon Market in Montreal

Jean-Talon Market 7070, Henri-Julien Street, south of Jean-Talon Street (map) Montreal, Québec Jean-Talon Market is not only the biggest outdoor market in Montreal, it's one of the biggest in all of North America. The huge row of vendors (covered during the chilly season) seems to go on forever, and around the periphery, there are a bunch of great shops for Québec cheeses, maple products, gelato, hanging meats, fresh-caught fish, and ciders. You can have a whole meal there or just graze on apple slices and bumble about. Here are some favorite stops. Havre-aux-Glaces Every gelato and sorbet flavor here is killer, especially the maple brûlée (with all the crackle bits inside), strawberry with black pepper, Masala chai, pear cider,... More

Serious Beer: Seasonal Fresh-Hop Beers

Once a year when hops are ready to be pulled from the vine, some brewers celebrate the season by heading out to local farms to harvest hops fresh. Once gathered, the hops need to be added to the brewing kettle as quickly as possible—the delicate flowers spoil rapidly, especially if exposed to heat. More

How to Make Milk Froth in Your Microwave

[Photograph: The Kitchn] The Kitchn shares a neat tip on making milky foaminess for your morning coffee without investing in any fancy contraptions. All you need is a jar and a microwave. Pour the amount of milk you'll want in your coffee into the jar, put the top on, shake it up real good for 30 seconds, remove the lid, microwave this for 30 seconds, and voila. Two-percent milk does the trick or be more indulgent with cream or half-and-half. Meatless Main Dishes for Thanksgiving

[Photograph: Herbivoracious] It's called Turkey Day not Other Non-Turkey Stuff Day for a reason. Vegetarians are usually stuck piling on the sides on Thanksgiving, which isn't the worst thing in the world, but they could use some entrees with a little more heft. This photo of squash stuffed with orzo in a sage brown butter sauce from our Seriously Meatless man Michael Natkin is a great example of a turkey alternative—and we're not talking the turkey-flavored proteins. Here are some others, and feel free to chime in with your ideas.
