Sweet Potato Dishes?
I bake the sweet potatoes. Scrape out the insides and mash them with my chunky homemade applesauce. This is so good, it could be dessert.

If you can stand more Shamdra Lee news...
Can't stand her "super simple" comment that she makes 1000's of time in her episodes. She has no idea how stupid she sounds.
Wings and Dings
Frank's is the best. Great flavor and heat. What I usually do is salt and pepper the wings, also drizzle a little melted butter over them. Bake in the oven, but when there is 5 minutes left I take them out of the oven. Put them in a bowl and toss with the franks. Then I put them on a really hot grill for the remaining 5 minutes. They are oh so good!
"Every Freaking! Day" with Rachael Ray.
I probably wont check it out, even though I cant stand her. The way she talks and her use of grammer drive me crazy. I'm not an idiot and sometimes she makes the viewer think that they don't have one ounce of intelligence in their brain.I really dont't like her style of cooking. She also doesn't care what she puts her name on---any product, etc...She probably loves the idea of this book. Probably thinks it puts her in the same category as Martha (which she never will be). Watch her hour long talk show and after 5 minutes you will have a migraine.
Homemade funfetti cupcakes...
If my friend said she wanted funfetti then I would probably bit the bullet and make the box cake. It's what she wants and it is her day.
Canned Soup Truth
I mix a can of cream of mushroom into my mac and cheese. It seems to add a little extra creamy goodness. I don't feel bad using it..
What to have with PB&J?
I would have either a crisp apple sliced or red grapes. I love have crisp fresh fruit with my PB&J....
Favorite Turkey Sandwich Toppings
Fresh turkey on fresh sourdough...now add some basil aioli, avocado, tomato, bacon (I prefer applewood smoked bacon), maybe some baby spinach or arugula. Slice and enjoy........
Mayo vs. Miracle Whip
Hellman's all the way. Though I am not a fan of food with mayo that is served warm/hot.
I have never liked MW, it is way to tangy. But my husband loves it. He keeps sneaking it in the house.
Favorite food blog?
I forgot about For the love of cooking....I made her pot roast and even my kid loved it....
Grossest thing found in restaurant food
I was working as a server when i noticed something "funny looking" in a plate of pasta. After looking at it closer I noticed a piece of a rubber glove (actually the finger from the glove) mixed into the pasta. I showed this to the kitchen manager and he then pulled it out and said that I could deliver the dish to the table. Well needless to say that was my last shift there....I left after that, i was just so disappointed in a place I really enjoyed.
New Ways to Cook Zucchini ?
I make a version of tomato & zucchini gratin. I slice my zucchini & tomatos about 1/4 inch thick. Arrange them in a pie pan. Drizzle olive oil over top then sprinkle sea salt and pepper. Then top with freshly grated parmesan cheese (lots of cheese). Drizzle a little more oil. Then bake till golden.....so yummy......
Favorite food blog?
My favorite is Simple Recipes. Elise does a gread job of explaining what is being made and I love the pictures. Her food always looks so good that I am always make what she makes......
Second favorite would be Confessions of a Pioneer Women.
Photo of the Day: Labor Day Weekend Time
Cedar plank salmon, grilled/marinated zucchini, and not sure what else. I am hoping to do some grilled peaches.
Brunch in Annapolis, MD
You have to go to Galway Bay for Brunch. They have the best brunch in my opinion (I live in annapolis and have tried them all). They are an Irish Pub/Restaurant in Downtown near the Statehouse (on Maryland Ave). The Gailic Toast (their version of french toast) and Traditional Irish Breakfast are wonderful. They also have an eggs benedict with crab meat that is also fantastic......
If that isnt your thing then try The Chart House. They have a buffet style with so much seafood you wont know where to start. This is more upscale and expensive then my other suggestion.
Have fun!!!!
Bid Daddy's House
I think Aaron did a great job. This was his first show and I loved how he focused on cooking with your kids. Kids love chicken tender and tortilla chips. What a good idea adding it to a salad and making good food fun. If I were to try this recipe for my son I might try cooking them in the oven instead of frying. I am making his fries for dinner this week....yummy....
Everyone should give him a chance. He is humble guy trying something new. Let him get his "feet wet" and see what happens. He might surprise you.....Frankly I am tired of Emeril, Ina, Paula, and Rachel Rey....New blood and ideas are great.....go Aaron!!!!!!!!!
Bid Daddy's House
Confuse... I have been looking for Salmon Croquettes by Big Daddy's House.. can someone help me I see them for other people but not for Big Daddy's House.
Favorite Cheap Homemade Meal?
That's kinda easy. Usually any kind of simple soup, ex: bean, potato, split pea, cheddar cheese. Pasta with sauce. Any dried beans with ham seasoning, tacos, burritos, shepard's pie, cheeseburger surprise casserole and my favorite, stewed okra with tomatoes.

Favorite Cheap Homemade Meal?
That would have to be a hot pot of chicken n dumplins'!
Favorite Cheap Homemade Meal?
What a great list. I'm definitely taking notes. My favourites are:
- Quesadilla. Cooked meat and/or vegetables + cheese + salsa in a pita--warmed in a hot pan.
- Tacos. Protein of choice + seasonings served with finely chopped vegetables + sour cream
- Black beans. Flavoured with cumin, served with rice, twice-fried and served with pitas, or added to soups and chili's.
- Soups. Homemade stalk, adding leftovers, legumes, in-season (or frozen) vegetables, and served hot.
- Pulled pork sandwiches. The cheapest cut of pork -- slow cooked with seasonings until it falls apart. Mixed with more seasonings and served on bread.
- Crock pot stews. Allows you to cook with cheap cuts of meat, winter vegetables, and lots of legumes.
- Polenta & tomato sauce. Easy and tasty.
Favorite Cheap Homemade Meal?
Where to start?
1. Homemade pasta with homemade tomato sauce and whatever veggies are hanging around.
2. Big salad with whatever's in crisper
3. homemade dumplings
4. Omelets
5. Caramelized onion soup or just caramelized onions on just about anything
6. Dried beans (cooked) and then whipped up into delicious soup or sandwich toppings or chili
7. Can of condensed milk = homemade dulce de leche; not a meal, but a dessert for 4; on top of pan dulce
8. Quinoa pilaf with any stir fried veggies
9. Dal with homemade Chapatis
10. Fuul
Favorite Cheap Homemade Meal?
Grilled cheese and tomato soup (canned). I like:
French baguette (sp) cut in half lengthwise, with a little dijon, then topped with swiss cheese, some green onion, lemon pepper and broiled;
Sourdough toast with a little mayo and plain old muenster inside;
White sandwich bread toasted, then put some mayo, slice of tomato and american cheese - then broil;
or of course regular grilled cheese - american (sometimes I add muenster or cheddar), on white or wheat, covered in butter and grilled.
Edamame (I buy frozen package - deshelled), boil it, then toast under the broiler with spices (seasoned salt, garlic, some cumin - whatever is around), then I cut up little chunks of cheddar and mix together.
Baked beans and toast.
Kraft mac and cheese mixed with a can of tuna and frozen peas.

@NightOwl - that sounds HEAVENLY!!! I am DROOLING!!! I was just going to say an "egg burrito" as my cheap eat but then when you mentioned the chorizo, that put me over the edge!
Favorite Cheap Homemade Meal?
@beth1: I LOVE rice and stewed tomatoes!! Have since I was a kid. If I have a leftover pork chop from a past supper, I can heat that up and toss it in too.
Other ideas are: any type of pasta an homemade sauce
Omelets using up leftovers in the fridge
wraps - again using up leftovers
Making soups
Red beans and Rice
Favorite Cheap Homemade Meal?
Soba noodles in broth with assorted vegetables and tofu.
PB&J or grilled cheese with mixed greens salad.
Favorite Cheap Homemade Meal?
I make a big pot of chicken soup from chicken backs and wings (I buy whole fryers on sale and cut them up myself--so easy!), carrots, onion, celery and fusilli pasta--and that's more than just one meal.
For one meal, a frittata with peppers, onion, potatoes and eggs. I grew up with that and was blown away when Mario Balali made it on his show (reruns on Fine Living Network). And there's always the Italian peasant food I grew up with--pasta e fagioli (pasta fazool), escarol and beans, etc. Five dollars for two? Easy!
Favorite Cheap Homemade Meal?
Sticky rice, kimchee, with a fried egg on top and a few drops of sesame oil.
Dal on basmati rice
Fusilli, white beans, tuna, some capers, anchovies, and tomato with olive oil.
Favorite Cheap Homemade Meal?
I love red lentil quiche. Make pastry (wholemeal is good), Boil up lentils with onion, garlic, chopped carrot until thick. Stir in 1T tomato puree and an egg (once the lentils have cooled comewhat), dump in some cheese and bake. Serve with salad. Used to make this a lot as a young mum with 3 hungry children to feed.
Favorite Cheap Homemade Meal?
Spagetti & Sand
Italian seasoned bread crumbs, a couple of cloves of garlic & parmesan. As soon as the spaghetti is drained, swirl in a beaten egg, toasted bread crumbs, garlic and parmesan. Simple, garlicly, cheese & carbs.

What is your must have kitchen equipment or tool?
Frosty, my 26-year old boyfriend is in love with his kitchenaid mixer. If he had to carry it or me out in a fire, I'm not sure which he'd choose.
What is your must have kitchen equipment or tool?
I don't see how this can be a real question. There's only one possible answer:
KNIVES
If I can only have one, a good, sharp chef's knife will have to be it.

@brooke29 ~ we could have a joint memorial service for our silicone spatulas (and your ruined veggies). You bring the booze, I'll supply the tears.
What is your must have kitchen equipment or tool?
Either my favorite Knife or my Kitchen Aid mixer. Got both for Christmas last year and I was so excited...this coming from a 21 yr old guy.
What is your must have kitchen equipment or tool?
my little 10" aluminum saute pan. I use this more than any other thing.
I bought a whole dozen!
