People, people.....a potluck saga!
DON'T bring store bought crap, that no one is going to eat, into my house.
And, if you can't cook, DO feel free to bring wine.
Every gathering I've hosted over the past year, and there were many, has consisted of me spending days preparing home made food (which I love to do, so no biggie) and everyone else showing up with junk they picked up at the store on the way over. Not even good food, mostly stuff /i would never buy or serve to my family. It then all gets left for us to eat - because nobody else wanted it! Just bring wine, dammit, if you're too damn lazy to cook!
Anyone use pumpkin (or apple sauce) and oil to replace butter?
I use applesauce occasionally, but only when it goes with the rest of the flavours in the recipe. More often I use plain yogurt (or flavoured if I'm making something with fruit).
I don't like most veg. oils in baking, I find they make for really greasy food. I do, however, replace half the butter in my choc. chip cookies with unrefined coconut oil... and then add coconut flakes to the recipe...yum!
I replace most eggs with a combo of flour, butter, baking powder and water. And I despise fake sugars - no splenda for me - but I have been known to use banana as a sweetener.

...even better than they look!
I eat ______ out of the tin/jar/bottle...
ok, seriously, what the heck is marshmallow fluff? why does everyone apparently have it in their pantry? and, what would you do with it if you weren't eating it out of the jar?!?
it's never occurred to me to eat my grainy mustard from the jar, but I do currently find myself trying to resist the urge to do so!
I usually stick to pickled beets, ice cream, hummus, and almond butter... does it count if you dip a banana in it first?

I will typically offer to let someone go in front of me if they only have an item or two, and I have many - otherwise I feel too guilty!
However, I had an incident where my 3 month old daughter was getting hugely antsy wanting to be fed and I was juggling her as I was trying to get through the checkout with my groceries and the woman behind me had the nerve to ask if she could scoot in front of me as she only had a couple of items (read at least 5).
All I could do was give her the look of death and carry on trying to keep my daughter from screaming bloody murder! The nerve.
