Rising Hipster Trend: Obscure Deli Meats

i take offense at hinting that my beloved mortadella is hipster meat !
its classic, traditional and i adore it and have for ages - maybe its a new york thing - or an italian american thing - but there is nothing better than fresh super thinly sliced imported mortadella on warm bread so the blobs of fat melt a little....also how can you not love something that translates to "little death"......ok i think i just decided what im having for lunch - thanks :)

Get In My Belly Now: Doughnut Ice Cream Sandwich from Peter Pan Bakery

you guys.....in italy, in the south at least, a favorite local breakfast (!!) treat is a freshly baked, still warm, bun shaped, sweet brioche with gelato - often served with whipped cream and one of those paddle spoons.....

presumably, in small towns this was to sell left over fresh gelato, because you can't keep it around long and also sell more baked goods

you can try one at l'arte del gelato in the village.....they are devine.

Why I Hate 'Hell's Kitchen'

hate this show as well but i still kinda love Gordon. That being said, what I mean is that I love watching him on BBC America. I love Kitchen Nightmares as well as The F Word. It might have a lot to do with the producers or directors there vs. here because he comes off different. Yes he's still vulgar and arrogant, but somehow sexier........its so weird that he doesn't translate - I totally blame the producers.

I have been eating lemon ices from court st. pastry for 48 years and while it's nice for them to get the fame they deserve. It bothers me cause the window that I used to walk up to is now a five to ten minute wait. BTW Spumoni Gardens isn't called SPUMONI GARDENS for nothing. It's lemon ice is good but the Spumoni is among the best in the world.

Why would anyone turn to this in Gainesville person for news on hipness? And why all the weird rare animal jokes? So sad. Why is print doing bad again?

For a nice change of pace, try a halal or kosher mortadella made with chicken and beef. It's pretty easy to find in delis or Middle Eastern markets.

You nailed it. I agree exactly with everything you said.

This show is my little guilty F**king pleasure.

Ewwww. For all intents and purposes, mortadella is fancy bologna. I'll take soppressata over boloney-with-green-nuts any day.

I hate mortadella, but I LOVE shincken speck. MMMM. Despite the deliciousness of most deli meats, hipster or otherwise, I am currently revolted by carnivores. There is no need to gobble down every living creature just because it schmecks!

On what planet is mortadella weird?? Certainly not Earth anywhere near Bensonhurst or Bay Ridge.

love love love mortadella--with the big chunks of white fat and the green pistachios! Mmmmmmmmmmm

I was just gonna say, since when is mortadella obscure? But then I read the end of the post.

Anyway, it may not be weird, but mortadella is pretty gross-looking, what with those huge fat pockets and everything. Though I may be biased against it after a dream where my skin turned into the stuff.

I think to be truly hip you have to stick to cold cuts that are made out of non-food stuffs, like a loaf made out of library paste and shredded yellow pages books, seasoned with finely ground gravel. The trick is to make the cold cuts out of things that won't actually kill you.

I went there this afternoon for a 'snack' and everything was fantastic. Had the beans and frank dog and the chili cheese dog and my feelings essentially echo those from the review. Regular fries were great and gone extremely quickly. The blueberry cream shake was also quite good, definitely too thick to be taken from the straw but very very tasty. It's going to take a long time to make it thru the entire menu but I look forward to getting new things everytime I go back.
