'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 1
I'm also on board with the dishwasher - he's super genuine and will probably give the Europeans a run. It's good to be aware of how the producers are already manipulating us for and against certain people - damn, it's working!
Inexpensive, Versatile Foods in the Pantry
I like to have stock, different types of oils and vinegars, nuts, canned tomatoes, arborio, pasta, and i'm adding quinoa to the mix now.
In Season: Broccoli, and Cooking It Creatively
ok, this recipe has broccoli, but it's not that healthy, but oh so good. Jamie Oliver is my hero. Here's the link: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/jamie-at-home/fresh-tagliatelle-with-sprouting-broccoli-and-oozy-cheese-sauce-recipe/index.html

Was Paul Newman's Greatest Contribution Organic Snack Foods?
He made wonderful pasta sauces - no junk in them, and they're about half the price of other organic sauces.
Papatzul: Under the Radar and Underappreciated
I've been to Paptzul and I must say the guac is impressive. As are all of the appetizers. I had the same experience as Ed, as our server stood behind the bar watching television rather than taking our orders or keeping our drinks full. Great food in soho though!
Top 10 Celebrity Chef Earners: Who Isn't on the List?
In RR's defense, and I'm not a huge fan, she has always said she's not a chef, simply a cook and someone that likes food. It's nice to see someone succeed the old fashioned way by working hard, learning as much as possible, without an expensive traditional education. That aside, Wolfgang still makes that much? And Bobby Flay isn't bringing more in on the restaurant side? Maybe it's time for him to expand....
Is Whole Foods Becoming Costco with a Side Order of Trader Joe's?
I'm launching an experiment on my own blog (cookingbroke.com) taking a hard look at prices at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Farmer's Markets. I noticed after reading the NYTimes article that they had A LOT of signage marking what "great deals" they have. Their own brand of inner grocery items - oatmeal, chicken stock, milk, etc. are cheaper - even in some cases compared to Trader Joe's. However, if you're doing all your shopping at Whole Foods - you could still call it "Three Quarters Paycheck". So far, local produce - still the best and the cheapest.
Papatzul: Under the Radar and Underappreciated
I've been to NY with my with about a week ago (April 2009). I was so disappointed, I decided that when I come back I should post a note so that other people would be weary of this restaurant.
I have to say the service was good, the food turned out to be the problem. I ordered the duck enchiladas and my wife ordered a vegetarian course. It was greasy, drooling with disgusting sauce and had little resemblance to duck meat in any form (dead or alive). The basic theme repeated in my wife dish as well, to many ingredients with undefined taste.
Bottom line, I truly and honestly recommend to skip this place.

I'm all about those dark chocolate peanut butter cups. And the lemonade is fabulous.

Didn't realize that we could enjoy New York brunch food in Texas. Guess it would have to be barbecue beef with lots of sauce on a slice of white bread.
