Phoenix: Best Restaurants and Other Places to Eat

I second the call for Matt's Big Breakfast. Matt Pool and his wife Erenia run a tiny place with excellent home-style breakfast fare. Crispy hashbrowns fried in butter are the best. It's usually packed on the weekends, with a long wait-list, so go early. You can also go for lunch and grab a Butter Burger, which is as awesome as it sounds.

Matt and Erenia also run The Roosevelt, a tavern in downtown Phoenix with a broad selection of beers on tap and a tasty snack menu. (The best grilled cheese and tomato soup.)

@huney_bumper and BaconUnwrapped: Thanks for your suggestions! I better eat breakfast the next time I'm in Phoenix (which means I better wake up earlier).

@Brianna: No, it is SO AWESOME that you know where all the photos are from. ^__^

Now if only you and Lee Anne had a food blog...

I wasn't very impressed with the Greene house or Bloom. The owners own a total of six restaurants. I think North (right next to the Greene House) is much better, especially if you go for lunch. Their other restaurant, Olive and Ivy (located at Scottsdale Fashion Square) is amazing and it's right on the river front.

Great Phoenix list. Right on the mark.

For a traditional breakfast in Phoenix, go to Matt's Big Breakfast for sure. But if you are looking for breakfast with more of a southwestern angle, definitely do the brunch at Richardson's, which has long been one of my favorite restaurants in Phoenix (and is conveniently down the street from my house!). But if you don't make it there for brunch, dinner at Richardson's is also some of the best southwestern cuisine in town. And the atmosphere of the restaurant is great (although it does get crowded quickly).

I loved cooperstown I know part of the allure was Alice Cooper but to be honest the food was excellent. also even though I think its a chain, ClaimJumper was wonderful, especially the grilled asparagus, its comes as a side for 2 but dont count on that, I ate the whole thing by myself and almost forked my companion to death for reaching. (lol)

@Charlie: Ahhh, I'm semi-sure that was the place Alex took me! Now I'm disturbed that I couldn't remember the name "ORIGINAL PANCAKE HOUSE."

The Original Pancake House on Camelback in Scottsdale near Fashion Square is also really good.

@brandonphx: Oo, I heard of Richardson's Cuisine of New Mexico, but I didn't get to try it. :( One of my friends wanted to take me to a pancake place the first day I was there but it was too crowded. I don't know the name...I think it was attached to a hotel...don't suppose that strikes a bell?

Matt's Big Breakfast looks great. Unfortunately I don't really eat breakfast...because I don't wake up early enough for it and my stomach usually isn't prepared for it. However, I will wake up early and get the digestive juices going for a nice plate o' waffles or pancakes.

@continuity: I would like one of those butter burgers, assuming it's a burger with butter, or something tasty like that. ....Mmmhmm...
