What Next Iron Chef Nate Appleman Has Been Doing at Chipotle

Nate Appleman has always seemed like such an egomaniac. It's funny that he got "tired" of the celebrity. He seemed to really eat that stuff up.

Go figure!

Good, cheap restaurants in San Francisco?

I agree with linznol.

Hong Kong Lounge has the best dim sum I've tried thus far in SF. It's definitely got a wait, but worth it to me.

And again, big fan of Burma Superstar (but the wait there is even longer).

I also really like Spices, the Taiwanese place. I think I prefer Spices 1, which is the smaller location. The other one is just missing something.

For Mexican, I really like La Taqueria and Pancho Villa (amazing salsa selection).

My #1 place for cheap eats though is Lers Ros in the Tenderloin. It's by far the best Thai I've had in SF.

For pho, I like Turtle Tower, but it's Northern Style - which is a little different. I usually get the chicken pho (pho ga) - also in the Tenderloin.

Cook the Book: 'The Essential New York Times Cookbook'

I'd have to say Appetite by Nigel Slater. Everything he makes is delicious and his writing just makes you want to run to a kitchen and get your hands dirty.

Kombucha: The Acquired Taste for Funky-Tasting Fermented Tea

I really like Kombucha but it takes some getting used to. My mom used to try to get me to a drink a version of it when I was little, and let me tell you, it did NOT have fruit juice mixed in. It was smelly, warm and I wasn't having it.

These days I crave it at least once a week. I love the buzz it gives you and I think it tastes pretty good.

Poll: Leftover Pizza — Do You Eat It Cold or Reheat It?

I'm not going to lie - when I'm hungover or just plain lazy I eat it cold out of the fridge (sometimes the foil is even still hanging on). When I'm going "big" I like to put it in the oven.

Most of the time I fall in the former category though... LOL.

Pizza places in the Bay Area (California) ?

I agree with Marilyn above (2nd post). Great recs.

My personal favorite in the East Bay though is definitely Emilia's. It's on Shattuck. One-man operation. It's so fantastic, I can't even put it into words.

Della Fattoria in Petaluma. They have the most amazing bread (you can get it at the SF Ferry Bldg) and on Fridays they serve dinners that are a set meal. I've never had anything bad at Della. EVER.

Will you miss Gourmet magazine?

I will absolutely miss Gourmet mag. I am a huge Ruth Reichl fan and I really felt that she helped bring food politics and slow food topics to light. I didn't see the articles as aspirational eating. The photography was absolutely gorgeous, but having good looking people in the photos doesn't deter me or make me more interested in any particular menus or recipes.

I will admit that I wasn't a subscriber anymore though. All of the content was online so it seemed silly to subscribe.

I'm guessing that Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie is done too now? Sigh.
