Cook the Book: 'The Glorious Pasta of Italy'

I had some pretty awesome carbonara in Rome. And the gnocchi in Sorrento was to die for.

I think my favorite thing is chess pie, but I don't really get that at my wife's family gatherings. Very sad.

Cook the Book: 'Good Eats: The Early Years'

The first thanksgiving my wife and I were married was also the first in our house. We had a bunch of people over and I decided to use the leftover turkey carcasses to make broth and have some turkey noodle soup. The house smelled great, and soup was pretty good too. It's been a few years, and we haven't been in a house big enough to host for a while, but I'll have to try again soon, definitely.

Le Creuset: Is it worth it?

I got a LC dutch oven as a gift--my step-mom's aunt gave it to her (second hand), but my step-mom doesn't cook like I do, so she gave it to me. I don't use it a lot during the summer, but I sees a good amount of use in the winter and it one of my favorite cooking vessels for soups, stews, large quantity cooking, heavy frying... You name it, I've done it in this pot. One of the most versatile pots in my collection. Turned me back on to cast iron (my LC is enameled), so I now have a couple of good cast iron skillets that see about as much use as my stainless/non-stick Calphalon.

Mike's Pastry vs. Modern Pastry Shop: Holy Cannoli!

Never been to either of these places, but I totally appreciate that you used the singular of "cannoli" in your post :) And really excited that I recognized it and didn't think it was a typo.

Cook the Book: 'Simple Italian Snacks'

We usually make bagel dip (1 package cream cheese to one jag old english cheese, add garlic powder to taste. Serve with torn-apart bagels. Very easy to double, triple, etc...). But, we also like skyline chili dip: 1 package cream cheese spread over the bottom of a wide, shallow dish (a pie pan would do, or a wide torte pad), topped with 8 oz skyline (or other cincinnati style chili) and as much shredded cheddar cheese as you like. Heat in the microwave for 3-5 minutes until the cheese has melted all over and serve with tortilla chips or corn chips. Yum!

Golden-Crusted Brussels Sprouts

My wife and I are not big fans of brussels sprouts, either, but we did roast them off one day and they were pretty tasty that way. I think we're just used to steamed sprouts, which are texturally difficult for us. thanks for sharing--good luck getting this on your table!

Frozen Guilty (Hot) Pleasures: What Are Yours?

A few years ago, my wife and I got nothing but frozen goodness to tide us through New Year's eve. Crab rangoon, pizza rolls, egg rolls, bagel bites. I know exactly what you're talking about with the frozen convenience foods.

My guilty pleasure is Chinese takeout. I love crab rangoon and General Tso's chicken. Yum! I wrote briefly about it here. Can't go wrong with good (but so bad) American-Chinese cuisine.
