Is it Rude to Eat on Mass Transit?
Personally, I don't eat food in public. I don't like people staring at me and when I'm eating ...I like to be sitting in some comfortable, so charming, wonderful chair ...listen to good music and enjoy great wine ...and most important of all ...surrounded by my family. On the other hand, considering your question ...I just think ...PLEASE! ...If some people are able to enjoy food during transportation w other people around ...don't stop the fun! Let them eat all they can and enjoy life!! It is true that sometimes some food can be "smelly" (some "fonda food" can be very overwhelming) ...but many other times ...by watching others eat in public ...it gives me great ideas to make when I arrive home and search the fridge for something really GOOD! It is there I start dreaming about great food!!!
Snack ideas for people who travel
My favorite snacks that keep me full and healthy are: green olives, unsalted peanuts, mango slices and sweetened coconut rice (don't forget to put nutmeg in there!). Gotta have all of this right now :)

Don't like this photo. Too groosss!! Didn't expected to see something like this in Photograzing because when one sees a photo like this, it upsets the stomach. Too bad.

Nature at its BEST. Feel very proud that you could capture that moment. Wish it will be me!!
If you you had a food show on TV what would it be?
Maybe a cooking program with kids in which mothers cook w their kids and look up for great recipes that appeal to the "little stomachs". The program should focus also on teaching little kids how to cook. Those beginners will amaze us w their super creations and twice the fun!!!
homemade pasta: worth the time, trouble and storage space?
I haven't made fresh pasta at all ...but I'm willing to try it because the love of my life (my 10 year-old son) loves pasta so much and I always want to prepare the best meals for him. Right now, I'm waiting for my 5 pound bag of pasta penne to empty. Then ...I will prepare this recipe I watched at the Martha Stewart show 3 weeks ago. There was a great chef there with this original recipe of hers ...so this is GOLD MATERIAL. It looked delicious ...and my son loves ravioli... so I'm all excited to prepare this recipe. I will include it here for you to try. Good Luck!!

Raviolo with Egg Yolk Truffle Butter
From:
This recipe for raviolo with egg yolk truffle butter is courtesy of chef Odette Fada.

Ingredients
Serves 4
1 bunch spinach, washed well and dried
3 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup fresh ricotta cheese
3 ounces freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
4 large egg yolks
Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
Freshly ground white pepper
Coarse salt
Pasta Dough
2 ounces white truffles, shaved (optional)
Directions
Place spinach in a steamer basket set over simmering water. Cook until spinach is wilted; drain. Heat butter in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add spinach and cook until coated with butter, about 2 minutes. Let cool completely.
Finely chop spinach and add to a medium bowl along with ricotta, and half the Parmesan cheese. Season with nutmeg, white pepper, and salt. Stir to combine. Transfer filling mixture to a pastry bag fitted with a 1/2-inch round plain tip; set aside.
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Set the rollers of a hand-cranked or electric pasta machine at their widest opening. Flatten dough with the palms of your hands; dust lightly with flour. Roll dough through widest setting. Keep rolling dough through the machine on decreasing settings until you have rolled it through the first six settings. Cut dough in half crosswise.
Lay one piece of dough flat on work surface. Using a 2-inch round cutter, gently mark 4 circles in dough, about 5 inches apart. Using circle as a guide, pipe filling around each circle and continue piping to form a 1-inch high edge. Place 1 egg yolk in the center of each circle; season with salt and white pepper. Brush a little cold water around filling and gently place remaining piece of dough over filling and yolks to cover. Gently press edges together to seal, eliminating as much air as possible. Center a 4-inch fluted round cutter around filling and cut each raviolo.
Add salt to boiling water and return to boil. Gently transfer ravioli to boiling water and cook for 2 minutes. Meanwhile, place butter in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook until melted and lightly browned. Drain ravioli and divide among 4 serving plates. Pour over browned butter and garnish with remaining cheese and shaved truffles, if desired.
Essentials: Vanilla Ice Cream
I just tried this recipe and it is great. Best recipe ever for vanilla ice cream. So rich & creamy ...you would not believe it. After dinner ...first, I served it to my dear and precious 10 year-old son in a cone ...all covered in hard chocolate. YUM! Then, I served it to my handsome husband :) with some oreos and all covered in chocolate fudge and peanuts. DIVINE! ABSOLUTE SUCCESS!! They were so HAPPY ...that they even helped me with the dishes!!!
* And best part is that I replaced egg yolks with egg product ...so it is low fat ...less calories = more happiness. Bye! Because I'm gonna try it right now with raspberry preserves and graham crackers ...that will be a cheesecake delight!! YUMMY!!!
I embarrass my husband with my restaurant ordering habits
Dear lettuceat: Hi! Just tell your husband that you have the right to ask for what you want and ...that right increases because you are paying for that. Whenever I go to restaurants, I ask for extra sauces, extra black olives, more napkins, more of everything ...because many times the food service employees just don't know how to make us HAPPY and I have to remind them. I'm getting all ANGRY to know that the Subway guy is mad at you for requesting more lettuce ...HOW DARE HE??? Next time ...please just don't look at his face and if he continues with the bad attitude ...just call the manager and ask for what you want ...with GREAT DIGNITY ...GIRL! And CONCERNING your husband ...just tell him ...that if he's NOT going to be of any HELP ...to just SHUT UP! After all, you are the DIVA ...you are the QUEEN!!
Does Activia Yogurt Offer Any Health Benefits?
For some reason I don't know ...I don't trust Activia. I bought it twice for my 10 year old son ...and he started having very painful cramps. Now he eats Silk soy yogurt and he's OK. But I am aware of the health benefits of probiotics and I also buy Kombucha Synergy tea for those matters ...and for the great taste ...try the mango flavor. Great after a meal!! YES!! :)
What to dip my french fries in...
Whenever I eat my french fries at home ...I always separate them on my plate in little bunches ..and then ...TADAAAA!!! ...I deep one bunch in my OH SO LOVE of my LIFE ...full of healthy LICOPENE ...that is KETCHUP (can't live w/out it) ... Then ...I dip other bunch in honey ... next bunch must have TARTAR SAUCE, NEXT bunch will be happy w smashed AVOCADO, NEXT bunch can easily slide in some DIJON MUSTARD and sometimes I dip last bunch in SOUR CREAM ...OH YUM!!! I'm full and HAPPY!!!
Photo of the Day: Purple Pepper Eater
I don't know if I will look for purple peppers at the market because when I saw the beautiful picture ...I was "Ole ...I must try this!!" But at the end ...you tell me that these purple peppers are "brutal and less tasty" (what is this description's purpose?) ...and now I''m not so bananas about that. Maybe I'll buy one and I will give it to my brother to take a bite and see what happens...
Dear Ina, We Are Happy to House-Sit

Does Activia Yogurt Offer Any Health Benefits?
I've made a yogurt drink for breakfast five days a week for 30+ years (nonfat plain blended with fruit juice & fresh fruit such as OJ, banana & cinnamon). No digestive problems. As a woman in her mid 60s, there's a great side benefit...no loss of bone mass with age. I looked at Activia and realized the high sugar content would add 26,000 calories to my diet which translates to 7+ pounds with no added benefit. And it costs more than other yogurts. I believe yogurt is a beneficial dietary food for most anyone not lactose intolerant. Whether the Activia additive makes a difference, only you can decide.
What Does Michael Phelps Eat for Breakfast? More Stuff Than You Eat All Day

Every night before practice you eat tons and tons of emty calories... but you get used to it!!!
Does Activia Yogurt Offer Any Health Benefits?
I am a 43 year old male. i am overweight and i eat what i want when i want it. i know it is bad...I was asked by my wife to try this each morning. I have had numerous issues with not being regular and so forth. I am beginning the second week and i have to say this stuff has worked VERY well for me. I have not changed my diet in any way other than to eat one of these per day in the morning. Pain gone, constipation gone, hemmoroidal bleeding gone. I hope it continues. i will let you know if things change. i wish everyone success in feeling better.

Great post!
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
Paula's a real Southern gal......who flirts with men, other women, kids, even pets ......who usually respond by flirting back. I've lived in her community for 30 years and I can say she has been very animated every time I have seen her. The accent is real and many Southerners sound just like her. She and her family are very generous and support many local charitable organizations.

What Does Michael Phelps Eat for Breakfast? More Stuff Than You Eat All Day
Come on people, the reason 'empty calories' and 'junk food' are normally a bad thing is that, when you eat them, you're not usefully contributing to the key elements of a balanced diet, so you will end up needing to consume more food in order to get the recommended daily allowances to keep your body running in good condition.
If you live in a third world country such as India, much of your diet consists of the empty calories in white rice, and you'll probably end up with the diseases and early deaths that malnutrition brings. At the other extreme, the likely result in a Westerner is that you'll be eating more calories than you're burning, so you'll put on weight.
Once in shape, swimmers generally don't have a huge mass of muscle to build or maintain, so their requirements for proteins, vitamins, and so on are only 1-2 times those of 'normal' people [ref]. But they have a massively larger need for calories (i.e. 4-5 times), and of course the easiest way to get that massive dose of additional calories is through 'empty calories' - lots of fats and sugars.
If he were to keep the same diet once he stops swimming competitively he'd be breaking scales not records!
What Does Michael Phelps Eat for Breakfast? More Stuff Than You Eat All Day
Certainly Mr. Phelps should cause those in the nutrition left to think critically about their eat healthy be healthy mantra. There are many in the 20 something age group who eat whatever whenever without any discernable health malady. Sure Olympic atheletes are more active than the average person but are they super healthier? Do they live longer? Are they 100% disease free? Are there 200 year old former atheletes hanging out that I am unaware of?
The nutrition fact that is often missed is that all foods fit into a "healthy" diet, even chocolate chips pancakes and ham sandwiches on white. Those who villify certain foods labeling them as "junk" are fishing in an empty pond and are never able to reel in real evidence.
My nutrition advice to Mike, stick to the diet you are on for it is the "Right Nutrition".
What Does Michael Phelps Eat for Breakfast? More Stuff Than You Eat All Day
Oh yeah and Phelps at 6'4", wearing size 14 shoes (also used in the single kayak races later on) seems to use his calories efficiently, don't we think? as Right N points out, look at the results. And look at the man's body. Do you see an unhealthy man? He's not skinny, but he is stream-lined. He's able to swim 8 races in, what, 6 days? Breaking records (some of which he set) in every single race (one was only an olympic record, the other 7 were world records) some won thanks to 3 teammates. It does seem like lots of sugar and carbohydrates, but it clearly fuels his engine.
None of us can compare what we do and how we eat to the regimen of an elite athlete, no matter how active we are, can we? It's just flat out different for them.

But from now on it is going to be Wheaties!!!
What Does Michael Phelps Eat for Breakfast? More Stuff Than You Eat All Day
Someone left a comment regarding the "empty calories" in the things Mr. Phelps was eating. Although the things he eats are not viewed as health food by the health gestapo they are far from empty calories. Just look at the results Mike is getting, he is a champion. Do a little more research next time.
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
Used to be a Paula fan. Now - not so much. ...
@Chef Jo - I watched Paula for a very short time. I thought "why not know more about southern food??" She lost me the first time she ever used a pre-made biscuit dough. No, ah say no self respecting southern cook would EVA use such a thing! I had a nasty mind bending Shamdra Lee flashback and changed the channel.
When I saw how many shows they've shoveled onto Paula, I wrote them off as Emerilizing.*
* TVFN's habit of waaaay overexposing one or another personality until we can't get away from his or her image.
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
Used to be a Paula fan. Now - not so much. Pitiful and sad, as is the entire excuse of a "food" network. If they (the producers, etc.) are truly orchestrating this, then more shame heaped on their heads. She's become a cliche and an embarrassment....bless her heart. She needs to say "NO" to the whole over-the-top behavior thing.
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
When I'm single, I'm an incorrigible (and effective) flirt. When I am happily tucked in a monogamous relationship, the idea never crosses my mind.
There's trouble in butterland.
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
I met Paula at a book signing, and she was genuinely warm and friendly. She did not personify a genteel southern grandmother nor did she act lewd and obnoxious. She fell somewhere in the middle, sharing funny and sometimes racy stories but nothing in poor taste. She stayed long after the close of the booksigning, just talking in general to a group of us and engaging us in conversation about our different food experiences. She was very charming and at the time, I wished I could have someone like her as my next door neighbor.
I agree that her recent behavior on FN has been outlandish, undoubtedly orchestrated by the powers that be at FN. They needed a BIG personality to replace Emeril Live, complete with his inuendos (playing with sausages, etc.). Enter Paula's Party. Unfortunately, they went way over the top. They exploited her natural tendancy to be a little baudy and went straight for lewd. I use my remote to tune her out, but I can't help but contrast the person I met to this tv personna. Please bring back the old/real Paula.
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
I agree with ChelleyD01completely! I can't watch Paula Deen or the Neelys, they are so obnoxious and have absolutely no class!
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
I apologize. That someone is on television certainly warrants declarations about their substance use/abuse problems.
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
@ccbweb: But could we please, literally in the name of decency, shelve the unnecessary and entirely baseless comments on what substances may or may not be in play? I don't like Paula's Party as a show, personally (though I've seen only a few minutes of it here and there, so that's a sense and not a totally informed opinion). But how on earth would I know whether she were on anything?
No, CCBWEB, we can't shelve the comments. These folks have deliberately sought fame. They're fair game. And besides that, if you've only seen a few minutes of it, how would you know?
Get off the soapbox (again), please.
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
Though she's often completely over the top and bordering on obnoxious, I have to agree with Jerzee Tomato. I only wish I could be as well off, heavily made up and as surrounded by young, attractive men when I'm her age. Hell, I'm twenty-three and have none of that going for me, it's something I aspire to.
That being said, sometimes when I'm suffering from horrible boredome, I'll watch Paula's Party and I'll literally have to flip the channel because she embarrasses me so badly. It makes me cringe for her, so I'd rather not watch.
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
Has anyone seen the episode where she cooks with Jimmy Carter? Before the cooking starts, he gives her a tour of his childhood home, and she kept commenting that she wanted to see his bedroom...commenting in a flirty way, like when a girlfriend wants to see her new boyfriend's room. I thought it was a bit odd to say the least.
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
I've never cared for Paula... her show makes me feel like I've gained weight just by watching it. And her personality is, as many others have said, over the top. Rachel Ray is high-energy, Paula Deen is maniacal!
PerkyMac, look at it this way--at least she's not flirting with people who ARE related to her!
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
Paula, the Neeleys (and FN) need a heads up. Almost all of us enjoy silly, sexy stuff at certain times in certain places. Almost all of us DON'T like to watch others doing the same. There is a difference. Some, like Nigella, know how to stay just on the classy side of the line, as cambriana points out.
They have things called porn channels for the voyeurs.
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
I think we should all speculate more about who is and isn't "drunk," "drinking too much" or "on/off their meds" and so on.
Don't like to watch someone on television? Cool. Don't think much of a person based on what you see on television? Also totally fine.
But could we please, literally in the name of decency, shelve the unnecessary and entirely baseless comments on what substances may or may not be in play?
I don't like Paula's Party as a show, personally (though I've seen only a few minutes of it here and there, so that's a sense and not a totally informed opinion). But how on earth would I know whether she were on anything?
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
I'm with Perky - I used to really like her on Paula's Home Cooking. In fact, I still enjoy that show when I catch it - not for cooking, just because there's something very grandmotherly and comforting in her personality. But I cannot watch Paula's Party at all - the few minutes of different episodes I've caught here and there made me feel so embarrassed and uncomfortable (and I don't find Neelys offensive. I don't watch their show because Gina's personality is too over the top, but their interaction doesn't bother me) that I had to change the channel right away.
I am also afraid that if I see any more of her Party, I will not be able to enjoy her on her Home Cooking any more as her image as the sweet Southern grandmother will be forever replaced by the image of an embarrassingly horny grandma who, it sometimes seems, would be more appropriate on "To Catch a Predator". Good for her, no doubt, but not on my TV screen - which is why I have my remote control and freely exercise my right to use it whenever I happen to come across Paula's Party.
OVER THE TOP Paula Deen's flirtatiousness!!!!!
I think she is repulsive and borderline sexually harassing people. I find the Neeley's as repulsive with the kissing, gimme some sugar, blah blah blah.
Keep your bedroom behavior in the bedroom and cook the damn food.
