Cook the Book: '100 Best Vegetarian Recipes'
hummus, babaganoush, taboulleh, tapenade, grilled eggplant sandiwches, baked spinach with cheese, falafels, the list goes on and on. and yes, the best vegetarian recipes are the ones that don't include fake meat, or anything trying to imitate meat.
Would You Go to a Chain Restaurant on a First Date?
most definitely a dealbreaker! especially if it's Friday's!
Video: Tom Colicchio's 'True Blood' Drink for Vampires
Uh what's with everyone getting their panties in a wad about this? It's part of True Blood's marketing campaign BloodCopy. It's not terribly entertaining but how are people offended by this?

What, no "Earthlings"? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0358456/) more about animal cruelty than anything else, still, an important and effective documentary.

Great list! Another is: Big Sugar, a CBS documentary about the past and present of sugar. It explores slave-like conditions in present day sugar plantations, as well as sugars/soft drinks role in obesity.

Not *precisely* related to food, but sort of: "Beer Wars," which looks at the struggle small American craft beer makers face trying to compete against the giants.

Please also keep your eyes open for "What's 'Organic' About Organic?," a film that illustrates how the organic food debate extends well beyond personal choice and into the realm of social responsibility. www.whatsorganicmovie.org

I love your food film list! So many 'classics' listed and new food and related videos previewed. Thank you. In "Power of Community" mentioned above, when Cuba's oil supply was shut off and stores and commercial farms could not operate, people had to fend for themselves. Yards and public parks were turned into gardens. Permaculturalists were flown in from Australia to teach. Cubans on average lost 20lbs each (mostly vegetarian diet and bike or walk for transportation). Farmers then were the most highly paid people. I'd also recommend HOW TO SAVE THE WORLD
http://greenplanetfilms.org/index.php?cPath=111
about biodynamic gardening. Save the world with cow dung and water? who knew?. Also upcoming:
"Dirt, the movie" http://greenplanetfilms.org/blog/?p=125
"In Good Heart" http://www.ingoodheart.com (from producers of Future of Food), and
"Nourish" http://www.goworldlink.org/programs/nourish.html
"The End of the Line" was staggering. Watch 6 episodes now on Babelgum. http://www.babelgum.com/endoftheline

Thank you for this list! My now-freshman was told his was the most intelligent class to ever graduate from the academically gifted school he attended from K-8th. Interestingly, 90% of these kids BROUGHT THEIR OWN LUNCH!

thank you for posting all of this information..... how can they have turned food into a science fiction movie?
Would You Go to a Chain Restaurant on a First Date?
I would not be the least put out by going to a chain for a first date, as long it was at least somewhat classy. However, my most recent flame cooked our first meal together for me all by himself in his own kitchen, and we are now engaged. :]

Two Angry Moms this movie is all rallying cry for parents to take a closer look at what their kids are eating in school. The film is a combination of an exposé into the school lunches served across America and also a manifesto on how to change the system.

My favorite meatless meal would have to be the Lebanese stew a good friend of mine made for a dinner party once - such a hearty mix of carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, leeks, onions, radishes, and spices, and I really couldn't have enough. Now that I have the recipe I make it all the time as a real comfort food type of meal. Thanks!
